China as the biggest foreign holder of U.S. government bonds: analysis of impacts on U.S. foreign policy
Holuša, Petr ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Sehnálková, Jana (referee)
This thesis deals with the question whether China's purchases of American government bonds affect the foreign policy of the USA. The first part analyses bonds as instruments for debt financing and explains why China is motivated to buy American government bonds. The second part is concerned with the relationship between the lender and the borrower and assumes that the relationship between deficit financing and a change in the foreign policy towards the lender is possible, an example being the relationship of the USA and Mexico in the 1980s. The last part introduces criteria based on which it evaluates whether the American foreign policy towards China is changing. The thesis is focused on the topic of human rights, which is a frequent source of dispute between these two countries. The thesis also comprises an analysis of the dispute between the USA and China regarding weapon sales to Taiwan. It also analyses the possibility of China selling all its American government bonds and the potential consequences for the American economy. The conclusion sums up the topics discussed in the thesis and provides an answer to the set question.

Štětina, Václav ; Jiránková, Martina (advisor) ; Jedlinský, Jakub (referee)
Nowadays, the subject of world currencies seems to be an often-discussed topic. There are discussions about the descending dominance of the United States of America and dollar, an increasing role of Chinese renminbi, and the troubles of the Eurozone and euro. In 2014, China became the biggest economy in the world. The fact that USA, which was dominating the world economy for 142 years, was surpassed is considered as the end of its dominance and the dominance of dollar. The aim of my bachelor's thesis is to demonstrate the position of three world currencies -- dollar, euro and renminbi -- on the basis of statistics and to estimate their future development.

The role of the US dollar as a global reserve currency and major currency in international trade
Škodáčková, Marcela ; Mandel, Martin (advisor)
Bretton Woods established a system of payments based on the dollar. Despite declining value in time, US dollar still plays an important role in foreign exchange markets and in in-ternational trade. This bachelor thesis examines the status of the U.S. dollar as a global re-serve currency and major international currency across several key areas. Dollar dominates in foreign exchange markets (foreign exchange intervention), in banking (reserve accumula-tion), in trade or financial transactions and it is mostly used as monetary anchor. Since 1970s, American dollars has been held by foreign institutions outside the United States. Herewith, a new element in the global economy -- Eurodollars -- arose. Eurodollar deposits are attractive for investors because they are free of most regulatory burdens imposed by U.S. authorities. The emergence of the euro as a major currency and global competitor fuelled the debate over the dollars international role. Accordingly, there are some predictions whether euro or some supranational currency might in the future rival or surpass the dollar as the world's reserve and major currency in international trade.
