Comparative analysis of climate change conference coverage in India and UK newspapers: framing difference
Devaraj, Yoheswari ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
Newspapers from India, a developing nation, and the UK, a developed one, are the focus of the investigation. These nations stand for a variety of social, political, and cultural situations that will undoubtedly have an impact on how the climate change conference is depicted. The thesis adds to an improved comprehension of the role played by the media in shaping climate change rhetoric and communications in various cultural and socioeconomic settings via this comparative examination. Considering the cultural differences between the two countries (developed vs. developing), there were similarities in the framing choices, which highlights the influence of the dominant global media narratives on how climate change is covered. It is acknowledged that this dominant position is essentially the result of fundamental historical inequalities that have led to an accumulation of political and economic power in the West. this was accomplished by examining five distinct frameworks to comprehend how they were used in the four newspapers' coverage of COP27.
Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy using Deep Learning and Transfer Learning Techniques with Oversampling to Address Imbalanced Dataset
RANĐELOVIĆ, Teodora
The study aims to develop a system for detecting diabetic retinopathy using deep learning. In this study I have explored transfer learning with four distinct models and addressed the issue of an unbalanced dataset with oversampling. The final experiment achieved a significant improvement in accuracy and quadratic kappa score. The study highlights the potential of deep learning and the importance of addressing dataset imbalances for accurate results.

Financial Performance of State Owned Enterprises
FÁBEROVÁ, Anna
The aim of the diploma thesis is to present a comparative analysis of the financial performance of state-owned enterprises in the European Union aimed at finding the factors that affect this performance. First, the thesis deals with the definition of these enterprises, specifics and purport for society. For comparison, the thesis contains an overview of empirical studies that deal with the question of whether state-owned enterprises are efficient and effective. The financial performance of an enterprise is valued using traditional financial indicators such as: total indebtedness, liquidity, labour productivity, return on assets and investment rate. Comparative analysis and descriptive statistics will be used to find the factors that affect the performance of the enterprise. Then, the ANOVA test will be employed to verify whether there is a dependence of indicators on these factors.
Experimentální činnosti ve výuce chemie v České republice a v zahraničí
VĚŽENSKÝ, Jan
The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to map the current state of use of experimental activities in the teaching of chemistry in the Czech Republic and abroad on the basis of authentic communications from graduates of primary and secondary schools. The work consists of theoretical part and practical part, which are arranged in chapters in chronological order in such a way as to ensure the continuity of the thought content of the issues addressed. The first chapter explains the teaching of chemistry in the Czech Republic both in the times past and in the present. Additionally, the educational systems in selected countries of the world are examined and described, as well as the approach to teaching chemistry in these countries. At the end of the theoretical part, various types of experiments are characterized, through which the author points to the current trend in education, in which there can be seen a shift to research-oriented teaching. In the practical part, the author performed an analysis of authentic statements of graduates of primary and secondary schools concerning the course of teaching chemistry and the use of experimental activities. Based on them, he identified similarities and differences in the use of experimental activities and in the approach to teaching chemistry in general. An obvious difference was found in methodology of chemical experiments, with the approach being the same between the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany, but different from France and India. The conclusion cannot be generalized due to the small sample of respondents. However, the analysis suggested possible differences in the concept of teaching chemistry and experimental activities, which may have an impact on students' attitudes and success. This also opens up space for further research using quantitative methods of pedagogical research.
Comparative analysis of persuasive means used in the Czech and French news texts informing about Covid-19.
DLUHOŠOVÁ, Petra
This diploma thesis deals with the persuasive devices used in journalistic articles, French and Czech, and their comparison within these two languages. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part, the theoretical one, the thesis focuses mainly on the definition of the concept of persuasion and how it manifests itself within journalism. Then, it deals with the description of the journalistic style and journalism in general in the Czech and French settings and traces any differences between the two countries and cultures. In the second part, analytical one, it works with a specific sample of selected journalistic texts, demonstrating and observing these persuasive devices and assessing their relevance and frequency of their usage, again with the intention of documenting possible differences in the Czech and French settings, as well as differences in terms of different genres of journalism. However, the majority of the texts are news texts. This sample of texts focuses on a single theme concerning news and other journalistic articles reporting on the covid-2019 epidemic. The aim of the thesis is to compare the approach of the two concepts of persuasive means and to identify possible differences in their use. This comparison can be made at the level of differences between the two countries, as well as between different journalistic genres. The thesis also includes a set of selected journalistic articles that served as a basis for the analytical part of the thesis.

HAVELCOVÁ, Tereza
In response to the increasing danger connected to the issue of the spread of fake news the thesis focuses on the distinction of terms associated with the fake news phenomenon (fake news, disinformation, hoax, conspiracy, manipulation, propaganda etc.), introduces different types of news media (traditional media, alternative media, fake news sites and social media). The thesis further states potential reasons for the mistrust in mainstream media as a possible cause of the recipients' inclination to alternative sources. In response to the increasing number of information coming from different types of news sources, there is a growing need to verify this information, thus the key competencies (critical thinking and media literacy) in the fight against the fake news are introduced. The thesis further elaborates the issue of automatic verification (along with its effectiveness) of news on the internet. Online applications exposing fake news sites are subjected to research in comparative analysis. The results of the examination highlight some of their imperfections that online tools contend.
