In-Memory Databases

This bachelor thesis deals with in-memory databases and concepts that were developed to create such systems. To lay the base ground for in-memory concepts, the thesis summarizes the development of the most used database systems. The data layouts like the column and the row layout are introduced together with the compression and storage techniques used to maintain persistence of the in-memory databases. The other parts contain the overview of the existing in-memory database systems and describe the benchmarks used to test the performance of the in-memory databases. At the end, the thesis analyses the results of benchmarks.

This thesis discusses the in-memory database called SAP HANA. It describes in detail the architecture and new technologies used in this type of database. The next section presents a comparison of speed of the inserting and selecting data from the database with existing relational database MaxDB. For the purposes of this testing I created a simple application in ABAP language, which allows user to perform and display their results. These are summarized in the last chapter and demonstrate SAP HANA as clearly faster during selection of data, but comparable, or slower when inserting data into the database. I see contribution of my work in the summary of significant changes that come with data stored in the main memory and brings comparison of speed of basic types of queries.

Podstatou této bakalářské práce je dokončení zadaného projektu zavedení SAP HANA technologie v roli akcelerátoru pro podnikový ERP systém, konkrétně pro modul CO-PA. Součástí je i základní teorie z oblasti databázových systémů a popis SAP HANA a SLT technologií. Díky nim by měla firma být schopná rychlé analýzy vlastních financí a na základě jejich výsledků pružně reagovat změnami firemní struktury nebo strategie.

Teoretická východiska práce vymezují základní pojmy, využití in-memory technologie v Business Intelligence a možnosti migrace. V praktické části je navržen nejvhodnější způsob migrace a nejlepší praktiky pro jeho realizaci ve vybraném podniku.

The main goal of this thesis is to develop user interface and database queries to gain necessary business data for an application for the approval of bank payments using modern technologies and technologies provided by SAP company. The first part describes bank payment issues in general, key concepts are explained and some problems are mentioned from this area, with which companies struggle today. The SAP S/4HANA architecture, for which the application is developed, is also described. Last but not least, there are mentioned technologies for creating user interfaces that are suitable for this development or are one of the most used today. The application design process describes its requirements, the creation of a prototype application that visualizes the way the user sees the data and the design of the data model. The resulting application allows you to retrieve the correct data from the database, display it in a predefined way, and offers the option of editing and managing it.

Přechod z prostředí databázového systému Oracle do prostředí SAP HANA

Tématem této práce je migrace dat z databázového systému Oracle na databázový sytém SAP HANA. Hlavními cíli této práce jsou jednak představit čtenářům základní charakteristiky inmemory databázových systému, dále na příkladu případové studie popsat postup migrace z DB Oracle na DB SAP HANA a posledním cílem je porovnání použitého postupu s postupem obecným, se snahou zjistit možné rozdíly mezi postupy, které souvisejí s in-memory technologií. Práce obsahuje tři hlavní části. První část práce se zabývá charakteristikami databázových systému se zaměřením zejména na in-memory databázové systémy a technologii SAP HANA. Dále první část obsahuje obecný postup pro migrací databází, který je následně využit ve třetí části. Druhá část se zabývá postupem pro migrace z DB Oracle na DB SAP HANA, který je zpracován v rámci případové studie. Poslední část práce porovnává obecný postup s postupem popsaným ve druhé části.
