Art mecenat of the Cross Order' s with the Red Star Grandmaster Francis Matthew Böhmb (1722-1750)

The paper aims on the cultural life of Francis Matthew Böhmb (1722- 1750), a native of Lubenec (Bohemia), Superior General of the Order of Crusaders with the Red Star in Prague. The Grand Master of the Order took the vows under the rule of sophisticated, erudite lawyer Grandmaster Martin Constantine Beinlich and in the second half of the 17th century tread in the steps of the Restorer of the Order, George Ignatius Pospichal. Sophisticated Böhmb became parish priest in Carlsbad firs. It was in 1720 when the General Prior called him to Prague as a Prior and after Beinlich's death was, on the feast of St. Agnes in March 2, 1722, unanimously elected Grand Master. Thesis followed particularly the cultural activities of the forenamed prelate, in the time of the day-to-day duties of the convent ad Pedem Pontis. It was Beinlich, begining to negotiate an extended Order range beyond the borders of the Czech Kingdom, however it was Böhmb's duty to realize this idea when, in 1723, he installed the Knights of the Cross in Bratislava (Pressburg), and ten years after, in Vienna. In Bratislava he let to build a new commendam's hospital there, as in Vienna, where he used the newly erected prestigious church of St. Charles Borromeo. Knights of the Cross with the Red Star compound in pre-baroque era

This bachelor thesis attempts to reconstruct the form of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star compound in Prague before its baroque reconstruction. In introductory chapters, the author briefly approximates the history of the Order, its activities in Czech lands and types of its residences. The main chapters are dedicated to topography, functional structure and architectural form of the areal focusing on Gothic foundations. In the final chapters each part of the areal is analysed as is its purpose and building development phases. A part of the bachelor thesis consists of illustration annex (plan documentation, vedute, period photographs).  The thesis is focused on the hospital of the Holy Spirit in Krnov in 14th to 16th century and his inclusion into the context of medieval hospice care in the middle Europe. It is based on proseminar and seminar works focused on medieval hospice care and in importance and theme is follow up of author's Bachelor thesis Špitál sv. Alžběty ve Wrocławi v širším kontextu středověkého špitálnictví ve střední Evropě (The hospital of st. Elisabeth in Wrocław in wider context of medieval hospitality in middle Europe). The hospital if Holy Spirit was erected in later period than hospital of St. Elisabeth. That is the reason why is the diploma thesis focused of hospitals which was erected in the peak of the Middle Ages these hospitals have got period of main development during the late Middle Ages. In the second chapter the thesis will be focused on analysis of the residential topography of this religious center in scope of medieval Krnov. The theme of this master thesis is History of the hospital of St. John the Babtist in Jindřichův Hradec in the early Modern Age. This thesis is focused on the first period of its functioning. The first chapter shortly describes a bibliography of this theme published in the Czech Republic and a German bibliography. Next two chapters introduce materials survived in the fund Ústav chudých u sv. Jana Křtitele v Jindřichově Hradci and history of charitable institutions functioned in Jindřichův Hradec since the middle of 13th century. Some of them became the base of the hospital of St. John the Babtist. The chapter about the hospital of St. John the Babtist is focused on its own history. This chapter introduces property and financial base, an inner organisation and a daily course of this hospital based on founding documents, instruction and on other archive materials.

The theme of this bachelor thesis is the presentation of the history of charitable institutions in the Jindřichův Hradec manor topped with establishment of the hospital of St. John the Baptist. For outline and understanding the context, there was delineated the development of the similar institutions in the Czech Lands to the early Modern Ages in the first part of the paper. There are also mentioned some basic problems and important phenomena leading to the establishment of the hospital of St. John the Baptist. The chapter about the hospital of St. John the Baptist is based on the foundation and endowment deed and the extant instructions from his founder Jáchym from Hradec.

The study is engaged in history of slum care in Susice from the 14th century untill 1945. The above mentioned study contains a theoretical part, where I focused on social care in Bohemia, then I brought to your attention the history of Susice and at last my work mentions in detail the history of slum care in Bohemia dated from the first written sources untill 1945. I have chronologically described the developement of individual social institutes, foundations and associations, which devoted to the care of poor and sick in Susice.
