Richard Kearney's Concept of Possible God.

This thesis concerns with problem of Richard Kearney's concept of Possible God and it's adequacy for post-secular Christian spirituality. The main question is, if Kearney's concept can develop in contemporary situation the experience of spiritual seeking in concrete situations and relationship with others with spiritual transcendence. Therefore, this thesis begins with examining philosophical suppositions and principles of the concept of Possible God, which are based on seeking of middle way between philosophical metaphysics and negative theology; key topic of this part is notion of desire. Subsequently the theology of weak God is presented as a rehabilitation of Christianity's provocative character enabling to found contemporary spirituality authentically and meaningfully and to clear away different historical distortions; main point of here is theology of the cross and kenosis. Final chapter concerns on practical applications of Kearney's theological principles through the motif of hospitality; the key theme is therapeutic potential of imagination. In conclusion the concept of Possible God is critically discussed and new possibilities of it's developing are acquainted.

The Development of Funeral Practices in the Context of the Evolution of Ideological framework of the Czechoslovak(Hussite) Church.

Anotation This paper is aimed at describing the development of funeral practices of the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church - CČS(H). In order to achieve better understanding of the particulars of the CČS(H) we put it the period and geographical context in which it was formed. This paper explores the period approach the society and the CČS(H) had towards cremation. It is followed by the CČS(H)'s practices and its theological and pastoral fundaments and explores also the theological grounds of the different periods and CČS(H) theologians. We base our scrutiny on the thesis that the CČS(H)'s approach towards funerals was not static and it underwent a certain evolution in terms of perceiving death and functions of funeral rituals as well as in the development of the actual form of funeral rituals, particularly with regards to the theological beliefs of the CČS(H) theologians and theological trends inside the church. We consider these dynamics particularly significant, especially with respect to the usual persistence of these approaches. We believe that this dynamic development was and is inherent to the CČS(H) and it was not directly influenced by actions of other denominations, if only with regards to the persistence of its form and content of its funeral rituals. Word That Matters. Humanity and Ethics in the Thought of Emmanuel Lévinas

In five chapters, this thesis traces the question of humanity in the thought of the French philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas, mainly in his works De l'évasion (1935), De l'existence à l'existant (1947), Totalité et infini (1961) and Éthique comme philosophie première (1982), which represent various stages of his philosophical development. It offers an exposition of Lévinas's most original concepts, follows their development and sketches their parallel and/or polemic concepts in the European thought, placing them within the context of Lévinas's life-work. For Lévinas, the question of humanity appears as a transpostition of the question of God, who can not become an object of rational inquiry. In conclusion, the question of humanity becomes the theological issue par excellence. This study tries to show how theology can draw inspiration from Lévinas's concepts in various manners: (1) methodology: Lévinas shows what happens to our thought when we follow the principle Sein-lassen in questionning God and when we take this principle as a basis of our theological research; (2) re-thinking: Lévinas offers a critical revision of traditional theological concepts and endows them with existential meaning, (3) marginalized phenomena: Lévinas thoroughly analyzes phenomena, which has been neglected or marginalized by the...

An Analysis of Tertullian's Apologeticum in Contemporary Context

The thesis deals with Tertullian's Apologeticum in contemporary context. The work is divided into four parts. The first part is dedicated to a brief description of author's time and life with emphasis on the difference between Apologeticum and his other works. The second part is about a complete interpretation of the text in which Tertullian defends Christian faith, argues with pagan accusations and suggests the role of Christians in a Roman society. This part also shows author's understanding of Christianity in relationship to paganism with an outcome that both groups are able to live together in peace. The third part is focused on current works of theologians and historians in which various aspects of Tertullian's work like innocence, grace or nature of true religion are depicted and discussed. Last but not least there are mentioned here the topics like question of God, his role for Roman emperors, pagans, but also for Christians who defend their way of life on principle of their belief. In the last part of the thesis I deal with the importance of Apologeticum for today's time. I concentrate mostly on the meaning we can derive from this work and how exactly we can transform his legacy into our daily life. Mirroring of Motifs of F. Nietzsche's Critique of Christianity in D. Bonhoeffer's Prison Theology

The thesis "Mirroring of Motives of F. Nietzsche's Critique of Christianity in D. Bonhoeffer's Prison Theology" contemplates Bonhoeffer's thoughts on non-religious interpretation, that Bonhoeffer expands upon in his letters from prison, in the light of critique of Christianity that was expressed by Friedrich Nietzsche. Chapter I looks into the history of interpretation of Bonhoeffer's research and provides a brief overview of past and contemporary efforts to explain Bonhoeffer's approach to philosophy. Chapter II introduces basic principles and key topics of the critique of Christianity first in Nietzsche's work The Antichrist, followed by Bonhoeffer's Letters and Papers from Prison. Chapter III compares the most obvious motives in the thinking of Nietzsche and Bonhoeffer within the aforementioned scope. Selected themes in works of these two German thinkers overlap particularly in their philosophy of life, understanding of a man come of age, and their critiques of Christianity that is deflecting from this world towards the transcendent sphere of the world beyond (in German, it is expressed as a difference in the meaning of "Diesseits" and "Jenseits"). 10 Abstract The Development of Funeral Practices in the Context of the Evolution of Ideological framework of the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church. Author: Mgr. Richard Ferčík Our work resulted in finding that since the very beginning of its existence, the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church approached the question of funeral rituals as a practical, pastoral question, not academic and theoretical. The Czechoslovak Church became a pioneer and promoter of cremation and operator of the most extensive network of columbaries in Czechoslovakia. The major moment of Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church particulars was the shift from the mechanical-magical concept of funeral in popular Catholicism, by which it tried to confront with a purified and understandable ritual based on the gospel and the desire to enculturate the gospel and translate it into a "live" language. Judging by the theological view of death and funeral, the basis from which it stemmed is quite clear - catholic modernism and liberal democratic thinking. In the first generation of Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church theologians we could observe significant "scholastic" fundament. The Influence Of The Separation Of Church From The State On Selfawareness Of The Czechoslovak Hussite Church

Annotation: This thesis describes situation of financing of the church after separation of the church from the state. Thesis analyses financial relations in Czechoslovak Hussite Church and tries to guess future development of financing of the church and its influence to self-awareness of the church itself. The money in the form of a financial support will flow into the church for a long time (about 28 years from 2015). But ones, this limit will be reached. Then we will see whether the church is able to generate money for its activities based on the former financial support that has been receiving for long years and to adapt its structure and inner relations to reality. Otherwise, the church as an institution may diminish.
