Teaching colonialism in Czech schools
Landsmann, Jiří ; Najbert, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Sixta, Václav (referee)
This thesis focuses on the issue of colonialism. However, this is not a theoretical work. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the teaching of the topic itself at Czech elementary schools. The work could be divided into three imaginary parts. In the first part of the thesis, the methodology of the diploma thesis, related concepts of historical thinking is characterized, followed by the concept of colonialism in historiography. This part is followed by the second part. It characterizes how textbooks, websites and the framework educational program for primary schools work with the topic of colonialism. The last part of the thesis describes the research carried out by the author of this work. It consisted of visiting several elementary schools, where he conducted interviews with teachers and watched the teaching itself. As already mentioned, the work is based on concepts of historical thinking. I assumed that the topic would be problematic and would lead to the fact that both teachers and pupils would take a certain value attitude towards it. Furthermore, the theme is followed from the concept of causes and consequences and contemporary perspectives.

According this categories we can see many different ways of creating symbolic representation in our set of historians. The phenomene of change in time and trends we can see by using category of generation, defined objectively every ten years according the date of birth. Thanks variability of categories we can see the plurality of ways of creating symbolic representation. For exact analysis of symbolic representation we use a concept of "field of representations" where the representations make a really exactly defined units. Their complicated struktures create a symbolic representation of whole czechoslovac historiography. By using a kvantification we can see the facts, which are by other method unachievable.

Forms of representations of czechoslovakian historians in first half of twentieth century. Václav Chaloupecký (1882 - 1951), Fridolín Macháček (1884 - 1954), Josef Pešek (1878 - 1958)
Sixta, Václav ; Štaif, Jiří (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis is dealing with the term "representation of historian" on the example of czechoslovakian historiography of the first half of twentieth century. For understanding of this work is important the context of my bachelor thesis, which dealed with the same problem using quantitative approaches on Kulturní adresář (Culture adressary) written by Antonín Dolenský. This thesis is an antropologization of the same issue in the meaning og underscoring the multiplicity of representations and its independence on the macroperspective of usual interpretations of czechoslovakian historiography. This perspective is enabled by choosen sources, which are texts of three historians - schoolmates, who studied together field of study history - geography on the Faculty of arts of Charles university. But their careers had differnt ways. Fridolín Macháček was during his whole professional life connected with Plzeň and its archive, Josef Pešek was teacher on high school in Prague (Akademické gymnázium) and historian of east bohemia and last but not least Václav Chaloupecký archivist in Roudnice nad Labem, professor of czekoslovakian history at university in Bratislava and than in Prague. The advantage of these sources is possibility to focus on the term "representation of historian" like a result of process of...
