The Relationship of Christians and Muslims in the Czech Republic after 9/11 Terrorist Attacks on New York
Cikánek, Jiří ; Ventura, Václav (referee) ; Pelc, Bogdan (referee)
The objective of the thesis primarily is to identify the main characteristics of the relationship between Christian and Muslims in the Czech Republic after September 11, 2001 (here and now) based on the sociological survey. Subsquently, the ascertained concerns and hopes become subject to a theological reflection with the aim to assess their justification, or to outline the theological base for their evaluation and thereby, to aid in correct orientation when deciding on whether these concerns and hopes are justified, or whether they are prejudices, which have no support at the dogmatic level and which should be further avoided. Within the conducted sociological surveys, the following methods and techniques were applied: media analysis (nationwide press at selected time intervals), inquiry of the participants of a weekend gathering of Christians and Muslims, semi-controlled interveiws with selected respondents from the environment of the Catholic Church. Based on the above mentioned sociological surveys, dialogue was identified as hope. An in-depth examination indicated that the dialogue has a number of levels. A dialogue at an ethical and practical level represents a possible way out from the current situation, owing to its focus on common values and the common future of the participants, who care...

Krbec, Jan ; Pelc, Bogdan (advisor) ; Brož, Prokop (referee)
PSEUDO-RELIGIOUS ELEMENTS IN DICTATORSHIP SYSTEMS. EXAMPLE OF TURKMENISTAN Bachleor dissertation The objective of the dissertation in catholic fundamental theology is to provide an empirically supported theological analysis of elements reminding religion and its acts in official actions of modern dictatorship systems. The paper is supported by the authority of expert works at modern dictatorships, the philosophers Hannah Arendt, Eric Voegelin, Raymond Aron and the politologist Hans Maier. It provides a summary of substantial elements in the dictatorship of French Revolution and in atheistic totalitarian régimes of bolshevism, fascism and nazism. In part, the paper makes efforts to extend the matter from positions of theology of evidence. Based on tomistic concept of religion, it characterizes pseudo-religious elements as practices of sourcing external forms from religious acts in the secular dimension, however without their intrinsic content. The paper sees their possible roots in cultural heritage, in limitations of adequate human resources for expression of the highest values and in abusing such acts as effective tools of human manipulation. The mentioned systemisation is applied to the example dictatorship of the 21st century in today's Turkmenistan, concretely to relevant questions regarding the...

Tomšíček, Stanislav ; Kohut, Pavel Vojtěch (advisor) ; Pelc, Bogdan (referee)
The Theology and the Spirituality of the Eucharist adoration in the Doctrine and the Protession of the Church atte the Seconnd Vatican Council In this work I proceed from interpretation of Eucharist and Eucharistic reverence as it is stated in the Council and After-council documents of Magisteria. The first chapter is devoted to a conception of Eucharist as a thanks giving, praise, sacrifice, remembrance and feast. As a precondition of Eucharist reverence I also add a sub heading about a presence of Christ in Eucharist. In the second chapter, for better understanding of the after-council development, I firstly submit a brief summary of Eucharist reverence in history of church until the Second Vatican Council. Afterwards I focused on the Council and After-council documents of Magisteria, which are dedicated to a theme of Eucharistic reverence. These documents mainly emphasize the association of Eucharist adoration with a celebration of Eucharist, from which adoration and actually all manifestations of Eucharist reverence come from and again lead back to. A treatise of a different means of Eucharistic reverence and its criteria then follows this part. The third chapter is dedicated to a spirituality of adoration. Eucharist adoration is substantially focused on Christ, contemplation the Christ, his...
T.G. Masaryk' s view of the function of religion in the civil society
Horák, Karel ; Pelc, Bogdan (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE DIPLOMA THESIS TITLE: THE OPINION OF TOMÁŠ GARRIGUE MASARYK ON THE FUNCTION OF RELIGION IN THE CIVIL SOCIETY AUTHOR: Karel HORÁK SUPERVISOR: Bogdan PELC ANNOTATION: It is to be stated that the current postmodern Czech society does not pay much attention to the heritage of the first President of the Czechoslovak Republic, Prof. Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, nor it takes much efforts to understand. Moreover, the rising generation has hardly any cognizance, what was the importance of the personality of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk for our state and for the Czech society. The secularized Czech civil society of the beginning of the 21st century perceives the heritage, left by one of the most important personalities of the Czech, European and world history in his life and works, with certain constraints. The main objective of this thesis is to give a transparent survey of Masaryk's views on the function of religion in a civil society, proceeding from the assumption of a very quest, based on the existing and actual facts that are known about Masaryk's life and work. In the first section, the life story of Prof. Masaryk is described. It is not, however, a pure listing of biographical data. This section aims at "clarifying and illuminating" that nebulous cloud, shrouding the person of T.G.M. for present-day...
Relevance of Lonergan's theory of understanding for the method in theology
Regner, Jan ; Pelc, Bogdan (advisor) ; Pospíšil, Ctirad Václav (referee)
The aim of the paper called "Relevance of the Lonergan's Theory of Understanding for the Method in Theology" is to present the contribution of the Lonergan's original epistemological studies for a method, not only in theology. In the base of the paper, there are a question how much is important or even necessary for theology to consider its own methodology in the context of interdisciplinary dialog between philosophy, theology and natural sciences. Lonergan's Transcendental Method is based on his epistemological understanding, especially his so called "Cognitive Structure". He describes our cognitive operations and classifies them in several levels. First three are empirical, intellectual and rational. According Lonergan, from the last level we normally move to ethical campus. Then he realizes that in human lives there are phenomena which we could call intellectual, moral or religious conversions. These are fundamental for the Transcendental Method. Lonergan then defines eight steps of the Method: research, interpretation, history, dialectic, foundations, doctrines, systematics and communications. Some critics object that Lonergan's methodological investigations are too general to be a theological method. Nevertheless, we have to recognize his inspiring attempt to find an adequate way to do...
