Particularities of the Facebook Communication of the Deaf
Jechová, Lenka ; Vinš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Sedláčková Půlpánová, Lucie (referee)
We study the particularities of communication of the deaf on Facebook. We summarize the specifics of social networks and the specifics of communication there through the psycho-social and linguistic lens. The research itself was conducted in the Facebook group "Koronavirus pro neslyšící v ČR" (Coronavirus for the deaf in Czech Republic). We limited ourselves to the time period starting in September 2020 until February 2021. The research consisted of an overal qualitative investigation of the particularities of communication of the deaf in posts and comments, and of testing of four hypotheses. These concerned the topics of posts and their form, the ratio of presence of visual elements in comments, and the prevalence of humorous posts. We confirmed that the most frequent form of post was a video in Czech sign language, and that of the 11 recognized topics, posts most frequently adressed pandemic ordinances and regulations. Conversely, regarding the presence of visual elements, we found that the textual form of comments predominated over the visual form. Among the posts, we identified 6 humorous ones, which we analyzed in more detail. Finally, we analyzed the deviations of the texts from codified Czech and compared them with the work of Šebková, who investigated the same topic in 2008.
