Pearls before Swine
Groll, Vlasta ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
The Bachelor thesis Pearls before Swine (Mt 7,6+15-22) includes a translation and exegesis of this part of the Sermon on the Mount and its grammatical analysis and in-depth study. It is an attempt to summ up various approaches to problematic elements of the text, how they are handled by different theologians mainly of the 20th century, and to hint at the directions which they followed. Further an outline of the period background which could have possibly influenced the evangelist by writting is drawn up. The nonbiblical paralles of these texts are mentioned, and the so called Wirkungsgeschichte of this text is chalked out. This thesis tries to figure out something which joins the verses about dogs and about false prophets together. The responces of the Mt 7,6+15-22 in Bohemia and Moravia are excluded.
The Son of David in Mathew's Gospel in the Light of the Solomon as Excorcist Tradition
Dvořáček, Jiří ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Luz, Ulrich (referee) ; Mareček, Petr (referee)
The dissertation focuses on usage of the Son od David title in Matthew's Gospel. The thesis is based on the presumption that the image of the healing Son of David, as presented by Matthew, is not simply a result of Matthew's redaction of Mark 10,46-52 but is explicable against the background of contemporary Jewish concepts - in praticular in the light of the Solomon as exorcist tradition. Matthew 10,16 - exegesis and history of interpretation
Černá, Venuše ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
Matthew 10.16, which uses metaphorical statements known from Greek and Jewish literature, stands at the center of the second great discourse of the Gospel of Matthew (missionary speech) as a bridge between the first and second parts, which briefly summarizes its basic themes − Jesus' sending the disciples, their situation in a hostile world and features needed to fulfill this task in these conditions. In my own translation, I decided to keep the words (omitted in some translations) that have an important function in the text − "behold" (as macrosyntactical signal, which focuses attention on new important theme), "I" (as emphasis on the person of a speaker who is at once a Shepherd, Sheep and Lamb) and "therefore" (as emphasis on necessity of these properties which follows from the facts mentioned in the previous sentence − both from their task and their position as disciples in a hostile world). I prefer the word "pure" for the translation of properties of doves, which (in my opinion) aptly expresses the importance of both textual variants without the negative connotations of the word "simple" (as naive or stupid). Prudence is not only a way to avoid danger, but rather finding ways to fulfill the task. Purity means that the disciple is not adapt to this world (to be a wolf among wolves), but follow...
The Gospel of Mark and an anthic tragedy
Duchek, Libor ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Heryán, Ladislav (referee)
This essay (Mark`s gospel and antique tragedy) concerns the stylistic quality of Mark`s gospel. First it generally compares antique genres with Mark`s gospel and briefly enumerates the correspondences and the divergences. It will come to the conclusion that Mark`s gospel has the most common elements with a greek tragedy. That for at first it compares religious and sociological function of a tragedy and gospel. When some of these functions will have found, the essay will concentrate on requirements of tragedy production, especially these included in Aris totel`s Poetic. In the analysis of Mark`s Prolog of gospel we are going to show also the other dramatic functions and narativ strategies, which are typical for Mark. In the framework of modern literary critique the essey continues with analysis of narativ function of characters and other dramatic tools. Like an appendix we also add a short list of Mark`s figures of speech and trope with a few examples. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Old Testament Conotations of Sermon on the Mount (according to Matthew)
Cejp, Tomáš ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Dus, Jan (referee)
A thesis on "New Testament" Theology is aimed to search for the continuity with "Old Testament". A subject of the thesis is so called Sermon on the Mount which is recorded in Matthew 5-7. First, it was necessary to clarify what was considered as a Bible at the time of so called "New Testament" era since canonisation of scripture was not fixed by the Jewish authorities yet. Though, a written version of some of the books was already approved, there was a difference between the text of the Bible which was valid for the Jews living in Palestine and the one which was valid for the Greek speaking Jews in Diaspora. The Bible (also known by the acronym Tanakh) was composed by Torah (five books of Moses), Nevi'im (Prophets), and Ktuvim (Writings). For a sake of the thesis it was important to try to identify how was the Bible perceived by Jesus himself and then, to compare his perceiving with what we understand as an "Old Testament" today. Jesus's teaching - which we learned from the gospells - refered also as a rabbinic teaching to "oral Torah" and to the other sources as well. Several commentaries of Czech, non-Czech and also some Jewish schollars were used for analysis and were combined with a comparative study of "Sermon on the Mount" and Christian "Old Testament" by its content and its language. It has been...

Twelve Foundations of the Wall
Hrubeš, Martin ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
Gems in the foundation of the new Jerusalem wall (Rev 21,19-20) were always related with features, as follow: safety, protection, God's independence, basic authority of the twelve apostles, everlasting paradise. Some scholars were seeking a connection between gems and astral systems in ancient times, nevertheless they concede John has utilized these sources in controversy. Despite of scholars' strong effort to identify gemstones exactly, it must be concluded that we are not able to determine all ancient and biblical gemstones according to a modern science. It is not possible to recognize most of twelve breastplate gems (Ex 28,17-20) and some of the new Jerusalem foundation gems because ancient people determined and named gemstones by a completely different way. Therefore, we cannot succeed with dubbing the gems by the names of the old Israel tribes or twelve apostles. As we have few references of gemstones within the entire Bible it is necessary to evaluate them all. Only in this case we could say something stricter on the often mentioned minerals, such as shoham, sapphire, jasper, especially on their symbolic meaning. It has been investigated that the colour, transparency, lustre and hardness are the most important characters of gemstones for the authors of ancient texts. It is essential for...
Paul and Israel in the Epistle to Galatians
Ženatý, Filip ; Roskovec, Jan (advisor) ; Mrázek, Jiří (referee)
This paper deals with a question, how the apostle Paul saw the Christian church in relation to Israel as a people of God in the epistle to the Galatians. As it is an epistle written for a particular reason to the particular people, the first part of the paper deals with a brief analysis of the epistle as such and its context. The main part of the paper is focused on Paul's specific arguments. The role of Paul's conversion, his mission among the gentiles and his relationship with the Jerusalem authorities are evaluated at first. The paper clarifies also what the Antioch incident was about. What follows is the crucial analysis of the term "works of the Law", against which Paul places the faith alone. The paper subsequently focuses on the exposition of the role of Abraham in Paul's theological thoughts. How Paul saw the curse of the Law and how he understood the Jewish Law as such is examined as well. Paul's concept of the church as the newly redefined people of God is demonstrated on the idea of the freedom in the end.
