Edmund Schwarzenberg and a Crisis of the Noble Society in the Interwar Period, 1918-1939

The bachelor thesis analyses the biography of Prince Edmund Schwarzenberg, a member of one of the richest and noblest houses in Europe. The main aim of the thesis is to expand his personality on the basis of historical sources and thus create a more comprehensive view of a man who was completely out of his time. He lived almost his entire life in debt and socialized with people of a different status than was common given his background. At the outset, this work introduces the reader to the context of a time when the old orders of the monarchy were literally being shattered and new states with different political systems were being created, which it was the members of the higher families who had to face. Application of cryptography in information systems

(in English): This thesis describes and compares the most popular algorithms used in information systems. Specifically, there are: Vernam cipher, DES, 3DES, AES, and Blowfish (symmetric cryptography) and Diffie-Hellman key exchange, RSA, ElGamal, McEliece and systems based on elliptic curves (asymmetric cryptography). The thesis deals with the areas of information security, in particular the various security mechanisms (confidentiality, availability, integrity, authentication, authorization and non-repudiation), which are secured by using cryptography. There is also mentioned the theme of standardization, where the responsible institutions and some standards are presented. Described algorithms are compared using several criteria (time, throughput, memory needed for implementation, avalanche effect and key lengths) in the final chapter. Data used for comparison are taken from other studies and scientific materials.

Possible Pitfalls of Quantitative Metrics

This post presents critical view on practical use of bibliometric methods. There are listed difficulties and limitation which cause lower value of information got by metrics and which increase a risk of misinterpretation. Discussion about possible solution is provided and general recommendation is suggested for accurate use of bibliometry. There is also described issue of research area scheming which is necessary for objective use if citation indicators. But which schema use and how does this influence the results could be quite difficult question. Bibliometric indicators itself include quite wide range of circumstances, which are important to take into consideration (e. g. size dependent and independent indicators, average distortion, minimum threshold of documents). Use of whole or fractional counting could be an interesting question.\n

Experience with Using EIR for Research Evaluation

This post introduces basic applications of electronic information resources for research evaluation in terms of bibliometrics, ie quantitative methods of data analysis. Current research information systems (CRIS) and commercial citation databases contain information useful for evaluating individual scientists, scientific institutions and organizations, but also the entire scientific disciplines or regions in the global comparison. Information obtained by the analysis of stored data – bibliographic records or citation relationships between them can say something about the evaluated unit rated in terms of numbers of scientific impact and partly quality (measured by citation rate) of various kinds of scientific results and their share in domestic or global production. The most interesting information can be provided by citation data. It is also possible to focus on research field or current topics by keywords analysis. We can get a view on international network of scientists by analyzing the author's cooperation.
