Gender analysis of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in selected episodes of the TV series The Surgery in the Rose Garden 2
Mašková, Martina ; Dvořáčková, Jana (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis "Gender analysis of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in selected episodes of the TV series The Surgery in the Rose Garden 2" introduces readers to problematic passages seen from a gender perspective in episodes 633 to 666 of the soap opera The Surgery in the Rose Garden 2. Research has found that doctors treat female nurses, female doctors and often female patients in a paternalistic manner (the exception are friends, such as a neighbour). The counterpart to the angry and conservative doctor Čestmír Mázl, who is stereotypically masculine (authoritative, aggressive), is the Ugandan doctor Aisha Nakabugo Kingi, who is stereotypically feminine (sensitive, empathetic). She is also progressive and is liked by patients and colleagues in the hospital. Her different ethnicity is a problem for Mázl and two other characters, but doctor Kingi disproves the racist stereotypes with her behavior and eventually befriends Mázl. Both surrogacy and home birth are presented as problematic ventures that are not recommended because they can turn out badly; in the soap opera, they only turn out well because of luck.
The comparison of selected topics in Vlasta Magazine between periods 1973 - 1978 and 2013 - 2018
Mašková, Martina ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
Thesis "The comparison of selected topics in Vlasta Magazine between periods 1973- 1978 and 2013-2018" informs readers about thematic categories in Vlasta Magazine of the 1970s and the 21st century. The main goal was to compare topics of these two periods and decide how they have changed during forty years. This work introduces media theories, reminds of the most important Czech and Czechoslovakian historic events, the third chapter discusses woman's roles, especially her work and social roles. The next chapter is about media owners and about Vlasta Magazine. The practical part of this work is dedicated to quantitative and qualitative differences among thematic categories in Vlasta Magazine between periods 1973-1978 and 2013-2018. Research shows that texts of both periods have their typical features. Authors write about politics and criticize social imperfections. A woman is shown like an unselfish mother and a hard worker. Nowadays, journalists speak neither about policy nor foregone regime. An appeal to women is not coherent - they should be beautiful and slim, but on the other hand "real women have curves" and "a real lady does not care about wrinkles". Today's women do care about relationships with men and about shopping. In addition, consumerism is evident because of increased number of...
Inequality in health of a selected population
MAŠKOVÁ, Martina
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of health inequality in the selected population group, which is focused on the elderly. The main objective of the thesis was to examine the characteristics of health inequalities in the selected group of seniors from 60 to 74 years and to identify the existing inequalities in the individual groups as well as the differences between the groups. In the theoretical part was described the issue concerning age inequalities, its causes and consequences. In the practical part of the thesis, this phenomenon was specifically examined on a selected set of respondents at Senior Otrokovice - Seniors Home and in their own homes in Otrokovice. To obtain the data to achieve the goals and verify the hypotheses, a quantitative research survey was used using the anonymous questionnaire method. These were standardized rates of ADL and IADL (Barthel index), then the VAS scale to measure pain intensity was used. Five hypotheses were identified for the research. Quantitative research was evaluated using the statistical program. Research has shown that gender is not a significant change in the perception of one's own health, and also the physical self-sufficiency does not differ according to gender. It has been found that perception of one's own health and physical self-sufficiency depends on whether the person resides in the residential care or in their own household. It was also found that the amount of retirement pension is not gender-based or age-dependent.

In the next chapter, marketing and commercial activities are introduced among 2001 and 2016. The third chapter's main topic is the art marketing concept along with its main principles and functions. The theory is contrasted with the practice. Afterwards, the recommendations are offered. The research showed that only Robert Guttmann's Galery (opened in 2001) and the Maisel synagogue (reconstructed 2014-2015) offer everything a good museum of the 21st century should offer. That means information boards, IT devices, enough seat places, suitable lighting and the right high of display cases. Due to the Conception of new expositions, all the buildings should be reconstructed in the future. Anyway, the main findings expose that the employees are often fired for trivial and no...
English participial clauses and their Czech translation counterparts
Mašková, Martina ; Malá, Markéta (advisor) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse and describe the Czech translation counterparts of English present- and perfect-participial clauses which function as postmodifiers and adverbials. Although there is a formal counterpart of the English participle - the transgressive - this form is considered very marked and archaic in Czech. Therefore, based on an analysis of 210 sentences excerpted from three American works of contemporary fiction, the thesis describes the recurrent patterns used in the translation of the forms in question. The analysis confirmed the findings of previous studies that while English prefers nominal and verbo- nominal means of expressions, Czech relies rather on verbal expression. The majority of the translation counterparts are divergent correspondences, above all finite clauses connected paratactically to the counterpart of the matrix clause. Although the translation of a participle by a finite verb form is more explicit, the coordinative relation makes it possible to retain the semantic indeterminacy of the relation between the clauses which is specific for participial constructions. Key words: participle, participial clause, transgressive, postmodifier, adverbial, translation counterparts
Syntactic structure of participial and gerundial non-finite clauses
Mašková, Martina ; Malá, Markéta (advisor) ; Brůhová, Gabriela (referee)
The present thesis deals with the syntactic structure and complexity of non-finite clauses. In particular, it focuses on two non-finite verb forms which are formally identical for all verbs: the gerund and the present and perfect participles ending in -ing. The aim of this paper is to determine if there are any factors influencing the structure of non-finite clauses and compare the syntactic behaviour of the gerund and the participle since in Modern English they merge into a single category. The theoretical part summarizes information covered in several grammars and describes especially the syntactic characteristics of the forms in question. In spite of their nominal character, non-finite forms keep the verbal characteristic, especially their valency, and they form secondary predications comparable to subordinate clauses. On the basis of these characteristics, the gerunds can be distinguished from nouns and the participles from adjectives. The chapter further describes the syntactic functions of non-finite clauses and focuses on their specific features, for example the attachment rules for determining the unexpressed agent, or the possible realizations of the subject. An important feature of these forms is their ability to function as sentence condensers and thus enable a sentence to do without a...
