The image of Tomáš Cikrt in chosen media

Bachelor thesis deals with the medial reflection of Tomáš Cikrt. This man worked since 2006 until 2009 as a press agent of the Ministry of Health and during this period became well-known and distinctive member of the Czech political scene. His personality mismatched with the typical conception of a beautiful but dull press agent in several ways - Tomáš Cikrt was educated in the medical field he was speaking for, he did his job with great assignment and mainly he was physically handicapped. This thesis wants to examine whether and how did all these characteristics affect the way the media wrote about him. On the example of six Czech daily newspaper Blesk, Aha!, Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny a Právo it explores what was typical for Cikrt's medial reflection, whether and why the chosen journals differed in their approaches to him, which aspects had the major influence over his medial image and whether there were any stereotypical evaluations regarding his personality. The author of this thesis presumes to find differences between the approach of tabloids and the so-called serious newspaper, especially in emphasizing Cikrt's physical handicap. Bachelor thesis "Censorship in today's internet media" deals with various forms of censorship of internet media nationwide and worldwide. It is analyzing the mechanisms in non-democratic countries which restrict freedom of expression and reception of information communication and even what purport is filtered in countries which respect human rights. This thesis summarizes the options which may defend internet censorship and analyzes the current situation of spreading illegal software and multimedia. It seeks the existing trends in the area of internet communication with notions such as anonymity and free discussion. And therefore it contemplates the relations between censorship, human rights and political situation in the world.
The influence of usual coverage on the content of supplement magazines of the Newspapers MF DNES, Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny

The master thesis "The Influence of Picture Coverage on the Content of Supplement Magazines of the Newspapers MF DNES, Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny" is focused on the influence of picture coverage on the production of supplements of three national daily newspapers. The research conducted within the thesis evaluates how the editors work with picture material, and combines a quantitative research of the picture coverage of the newspapers with the qualitative research of interviews with heads of the editors of the magazines. The research examines what kind of picture coverage appears in the supplements, how the editors inform about sources of the picture coverage and what is the influence of the picture coverage on production of texts and articles. Both parts of the research are compared, and as a result, the comparison shows the differences between measured data of the quantitative analysis and opinions of managers on picture coverage in their magazines. A comparative semiotic analysis of Týden and Newsweek magazine front page photographs

Diploma thesis "A Comparative Semiotic Analysis of Týden and Newsweek magazine front page photographs" deals with a way of reflections of the modern myths that construct a recent media discursus on the front pages of Czech and foreign weekly magazines. The basic tools of media studies like a sign, code, myth, social construction of reality, representation and stereotype are applied in ten front page photographs of Týden and in the same number of photographs of Newsweek. Their substance is introduced in a theoretical part. The text using semiotic analysis describes the signs used in the first and the second stage of denotation, decodes their hidden meanings, explicates and compares identified dominant ideologies, which are comprehended as artificial constructs from the Barthes's approach point of view. It comes to a discovery that in spite of different time and economic spaces a supposed dissimilarity of mythologic traditions couldn't be proved. Exercitation of media contents in a global scale on the other hand acknowledges a proximity which has not been anticipated.

Diploma thesis "Specific role of photojournalism in print media; in the wider context of a journalistic career focusing on dimensions of gender, power, status and self-examination" deals with the role, status and self-examination of the photoreporter (and the others inside the newsroom), focusing on the decision-making process inside the newsroom, on hierarchization and power, plus the accompanying possible discriminations or stereotypes. First chapters deal with the issues of photojournalism as a whole, explaining basic concepts, going into the role of the photojournalistic picture, the role of the photoreporter inside the newsroom, its composition and ethics. The practical part is dedicated to the research on photojournalism based on in-depth interviews with selected people within the newsroom, with the goal to try to describe the role and status of the photoreporter, to understand the system of work, procedures and decision-making processes. In addition to identify the relative representation of women and men within the selected newsrooms by data gathering, using quantitative research. Our goal is to move towards their own image (self-examination), discover the status of women/men in terms of gender and power, not just to make a list of terse data based on quantitative analysis. Photography in the magazine Mladý svět 1959-1989

The paper deals with the treatment of photography in a Czechoslovakian magazine Mladý svět. It analyses the period since its origin in 1959 till the end of 1989. It focuses primarily on photo reporters Leoš Neboř, Miroslav Hucek and Miroslav Zajíc, who played a decisive role in the visual image of the magazine. The paper examines picture material (reportages, front pages) using the content image analysis. Its aim is to show the particularity of its work with photography, by which Mladý svět was distinguished from the majority of periodicals at that time. The quality of pictures and the space granted to them in the magazine is described by concrete examples from the whole analysed period. The paper presents the themes and methods of their visual representation as well as some major authors which helped Mladý svět win fame during the period.
