Ekonomické zhodnocení intenzivního výkrmu býků masných plemen skotu
Kosová, Michaela
The diploma thesis deals with the fattening of slaughter bulls of the Aberdeen Angus, Charolais and Limousin breeds from the weight category to slaughter weight. The main goal of this work was to economically evaluate the effectiveness of intensive fattening of beef bulls. A total of 366 animals were monitored in two feedlots. In the practical part, the animals were weighed in different stages of fattening, at the age of 8 and 14 months, and on the basis of these data, an analysis of the influence of the breed was carried out and subsequently the economy of fattening was evaluated. Growth was assessed by average gains for individual breeds and farms. The results show that the breed has a significant effect on the intensity of growth. The results were statistically significantly highest in the Aberdeen Angus breed in the pre-weaning period (1.12 kg/day), but after moving to a barn with intensive fattening, the highest growth intensity was achieved in the Charolais breed (1.61 kg/day). Weight increased linearly with age in all bulls, the highest differences were observed in the Aberdeen Angus and Limousin breeds. After the 1st and 2nd weigh-ins, representatives of the Aberdeen Angus breed (330.02 kg, respectively 579.57 kg) achieved the highest weights, while representatives of the limousine reached the lowest (302.24 kg, respectively 555.27 kg). The absolute highest average daily gains were achieved by bulls of the Charolais breed, in 160 days of intensive fattening, the absolute gain was 255.3 kg. Despite the lowest age, the bulls had the highest weight at the end of fattening, thanks to the high intensity of growth. The highest calculated profit was achieved on Farm A with the Charolais breed (CZK 8,838.37) and on Farm B with the limousine breed (CZK 2,645.6). The costs per feeding day ranged from 89 to 91 CZK.
A Comparison of Plotinus's and St. Augustine's Conception of Evil
Košová, Michaela ; Němec, Václav (advisor) ; Novák, Lukáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with Plotinus's and Augustine's conception of evil and its main aim is to compare both views and reveal which Plotinus's thoughts inspired Augustine and at which points he had to divert from Plotinus. The key question is in what way both philosophers attempt to answer the question about ontological status and origin of evil. While examining the differences between both conceptions it will be importatnt to explain them with regard to different metaphysical concepts which constitute Plotinus's and Augustine's thinking. First part of the thesis investigates in what sense in Plotinus's theory matter - the last point of emanation of reality from the One - is the principle of evil. Later we encounter tolma, certain illegitimate audacity to become independent from the higher levels which is present in the soul and also at the very emergence of reality as such from the One. However, since soul has a divine origin, it cannot really sin. Plotinus ascribes the ultimate responsibility for evil to matter, utter privation and form of non-being, which can act as a sort of trap for the soul. In the second part we will see that thanks to neoplatonic thinking Augustine too perceives evil as privation but he ascribes its origin to a free decision of created, and thus mutable rational...
Folk Dualism and the Two Conceptual Realms
Jirout Košová, Michaela ; Peregrin, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Koreň, Ladislav (referee) ; Sytsma, Justin (referee)
The thesis focuses on the irreducibility of the concept of a person to scientific view of the world. The main inspiration for thematising this specific aspect of folk dualism comes from Donald Davidson (two realms) and Wilfrid Sellars (two images). The theoretical sections are complemented by reflexion on results of empirical studies provided mostly by experimental philosophy in order to demonstrate how this approach benefits attempts to reach complex view of philosophical questions that have close connection to moral dimension of human life. The first chapter addresses a wider concept of self and introduces the idea of the necessity to bring the two conceptual realms on the scene: there is a specific conceptual realm (irreducible to physical realm or scientific image) enabling proper grasp of the concept of a person. The subsequent chapters address particular sub-concepts of the concept of self. The second chapter focuses on the concept of free will, and by referring to different views it points to the necessity to bring folk concepts into consideration. It concludes that the folk concept of free agent is transcendent with regard to scientific accounts and bears certain "supernatural" characteristics connected to the concept of conscious will. The third (and central) chapter brings focus on the...
Modern Theories of Consciousness and the Elusiveness of Subjectivity
Košová, Michaela ; Hill, James (advisor) ; Karásek, Jindřich (referee)
This diploma thesis is concerned with the question of the right conceptual approach towards consciousness. It opens up with the thesis that the crucial characteristic of consciousness - its subjective aspect - is profoundly elusive. To understand the nature of this elusiveness we get a loose inspiration from Karl Jaspers (of the continental tradition) and his idea of "subject-object dichotomy" whose main point is a realisation that the conscious subject is in principle unobjectifiable and can never be properly grasped by objectifying thinking. This main idea is then applied to various modern theories of consciousness (coming from the analytical tradition) in order to explore and demonstrate to what extend each of the theories misses or acknowledges the specific irreducibility of consciousness to objectively describable phenomena. Thus we observe that J. J. C. Smart omits subjectivity from his identity theory altogether since he understands reality as objectively graspable in all its aspects. Colin McGinn comes with an interesting explanation of our problems with grasping consciousness as part of the physical world and asserts that we are "cognitively closed" with respect to the solution of the mind-body problem. However, he concludes that a possible solution delivered in objectifying terms exists...
Types of patient's information needs
KOSOVÁ, Michaela
These days human being can find itself swamped with tons of information. It is neccessary to think over provided information given by a health care system and its efficiency. The thesis named Types of patient´s information needs is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. Materials about nursing, medicine, psychology, sociology and a law issued in the Czech Republic and abroad were used to get necessary information about current condition of problematics. Two goals were set based on acquired knowledge. The first goal was to get to know about what type of information were requested and needed by patients and which they missed from nurses and doctors in ambulances and hospitals. The second goal was to double check if a personal perceiving of a given information corresponds with the real diagnosis. With respect to thesis goals, 9 research questions were formulated. Information regarding examined topic were acquired through research and investigation. As the means of collecting the data an interview was chosen. 23 interviews with patiens were done and the analyzed according to the Strausse theory. It was found, that patiens involved in this interview, take care about their health condition and that the information, which they perceive as important, are given to them by the medical staff. The information they have makes them more comfortable and they view it as a very important. It was as certained, that patients are very sensitive about the way the medical staff communicates with them and that their personality plays part in this process. The purpose of this thesis is to give an impulse to reinforce informing the patiens in a written form, but mainly to reinforce their personal contact with a doctor. Is is obvious, that the information and the way they get it is very important for patients.
