Comparative Analysis of Chemistry Education ( Czech Republic - Scotland)
Laburdová, Jiřina ; Klímová, Helena (advisor) ; Teplý, Pavel (referee)
Key words: Scotland, Czech Republic, education system, Chemistry education, Chemistry teaching, National Qualifications, Standard Grade, Intermediate, Higher, Advanced Higher Abstract: The education system in the Czech Republic is currently undergoing many changes. Education systems of foreign countries are often what inspire us to make these changes. The aim of this thesis is to describe the education system in Scotland and the way chemistry is being taught at secondary schools in this country. Further it tries to compare these to the education system and chemistry teaching in the Czech Republic and consider whether we can adopt any aspects of Scottish education. Apart from analysis of study plans and educational documents, research for this thesis included visits to chemistry lessons at three secondary schools in Scotland and interviews with teachers at these schools. In the text, cultural and historical context of Scotland related to the education system is mentioned briefly. Then the Scottish education system is explained and Chemistry teaching at secondary schools is described from the point of study plans and requirements. The following chapter contains a description of schools that have been visited, together with reports from selected chemistry lessons. Last chapter then compares various aspects of...
CHEMISTRY ORIENTED FIELD TRIP IN SECONDARY EDUCATION
Papírníková, Lucie ; Teplý, Pavel (advisor) ; Klímová, Helena (referee)
This thesis summarized available information about field trips and their integration into undergraduate chemistry curriculum. It also contains a list of places in Prague suitable for filed trip in chemistry education. Suggested field trips include a description of each visited place, photographs, and contact informations.. The apendix contains samples and links of worksheets, video recordings and other teaching laids. The thesis can be used as a teacher aid for preparing school field trips.
Chemical experiments for high school - chromatography with natural substances.
Polívková, Michala ; Hybelbauerová, Simona (advisor) ; Klímová, Helena (referee)
This thesis concerns experiments with natural compounds and vitamins. In the first part I described these substances, which I proved by chromatography or I made other experiments with them in the second part. I created four worksheets with instruction for laboratory practise. There are thein solutions in the supplement. I verified these four experiments at Grammar School in Prague 9.
Experimentalteaching of organic chemistry oriented on education
Karlínová, Markéta ; Hybelbauerová, Simona (advisor) ; Klímová, Helena (referee)
Experiments are indisputably the most popular part of chemistry lessons for students. When an experiment is performed with the material commonly known like foodstuff then interest of students increases. Presented bachelor thesis shows experiments with chocolate lentils of two producers, Nestle and Mars, Inc. Interest is focused on colorants - a topic of organic chemistry which is directly mentioned in basic curricular documents RVP G. The experiments demonstrate influence of pH environment on sensitivity of artificial colorings and natural food dyes contained in chocolate lentils. By using these food colorings retention factor and its dependence on TLC (thin layer chromatography) conditions is explained. Absorbance spectra of colorants are included. The thesis presents new possibilities of scientific approach about lecture of colorants. The aim of presented bachelor thesis is focused on importance of monitoring the composition in food products. Producers might change the composition of their products and that's why described experiments can't be followed easily. Certain problem was in case of Nestle producer who has changed food colorings in these chocolate candies. Although original food colorings had been natural food dyes (mix of carotenoids, anthocyanins), for the majority of people is more...
Chemical Experiments in Secondary Education
Vozka, Jiří ; Klímová, Helena (advisor) ; Hybelbauerová, Simona (referee)
The thesis contains four topics from organic chemistry and biochemistry processed into the structure of chemical experiments and laboratory works. These topics are Proteins, Light and fire, Curiosities and Professions. Some experiments are accompanied by motivational text, including additional information or interesting facts. Each experiment was verified in the laboratory at the Department of Teaching & Didactics of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. Each experiment was photographically documented. Two of them were also video taped and these videos with all pictures are on the CD accompanying this thesis.
