The Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters: artistic interpreting between years 2000-2020

The bachelor's thesis Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters: Artistic Interpretation in the Years 2000-2020 deals with the artistic interpretation of theater performances for deaf audiences. The thesis aims to present the Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters as a professional organization of interpreters for the deaf with significant activities in the field of artistic interpretation and with an overlap into other areas. Based on the available sources, the aim is to create a detailed overview of theater performances that were implemented under the professional management of the Czech Chamber of Sign Language Interpreters. The work also includes a semi-structured interview, supplementary interviews (which served as a substitute for sources that were not accessible) and questionnaire surveys designed for interpreters of theater performances and supervisors who work in the artistic field of interpreted performances. Czech sign language in translations of Czech written formal text

This thesis addresses the issue of thranslating formal texts written in Czech into Czech sign language. The first chapter deals with stylistic factors influencing formal Czech written texts and also the sociocultural situation of the Czech deaf community. The second and third chapters characterize translation of sign language translation and various approaches to the process of translating both spoken and sign languages. The research is a comparative analysis of a sample of formal Czech written texts and their sign language translations. The findings are introduced in the conclusive part of the thesis. Sign language interpreting in the theatre

Cílem bakalářské práce je podat úvodní informace pro tlumočníky znakového jazyka, kteří se rozhodnou tlumočit divadelní představení do znakového jazyka. V kapitolách 1 a 2 se popisuje obecný úvod k teorii tlumočení a zařazení divadelního tlumočení do systému tlumočení. Kapitola 3 pojednává o základních typech divadelního tlumočení. V kapitolách 4 až 7 je popisován proces příprava proces překladu divadelního představení do znakového jazyka. Kapitola 8 pojednává o technických podmínkách divadelního tlumočení. V kapitole 9 jsou přiblížena specifika divadelního tlumočení pro děti. Kapitola 10 se zaměřuje na týmovou spolupráci tlumočníků znakového jazyka při přípravě divadelního představení. Kapitola 11 nabízí stručný přehled divadelních představení tlumočených do znakového jazyka v ČR, která byla realizována k červenci 2007. Závěrečná 12. kapitola předkládá návrhy směřování divadelního tlumočení pro neslyšící do budoucna.
Compare of the situation of sign language interpreters in the TV news in the Czech Republic and Finland

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of sign language interpreters working in television news in the Czech Republic and Finland. In the introductory chapter, the attention is given to the description of interpretation in television news and its comparison with other types of sign language interpretation. After that the history of sign language interpreters working in television news in the Czech Republic is described. The main attention is given to the News in the Czech sign language (News). Its history of this News is described and the thesis is focused on the work of sign language interpreters in this television program. Attention is given to the whole process, from the admission of interpreters to the description of their work in the News in Czech sign language. In subsequent chapters the situation in Finland is described. As the situation in Finland is different from that in the Czech Republic, the description is conceived differently. Initially, the attention is devoted to the description of interpreters' work in Finnish television news and subsequent chapters focus on the description of the Finnish News in sign language (News) - Yle Uutiset viittomakielellä. Factors influencing interpreter's performance in educational facility

The thesis deals mainly with all the aspects having an impact on the interpreter's setting at primary and secondary schools and colleges. Whether special schools or mainstream schools with deaf students integrated. In the theoretical part, we can learn about characteristics of educational interpreting, development of this type of interpreting in the Czech Republic and the situation in interpreting in 1991 and since that year until now. Most of the work deals with the individual factors that influence the quality of simultaneous interpretation in general way. From these factors, I chose those that were specific to sign language interpreting in the area of education. To have an idea of what the current situation in the education of interpreters is, I interviewed 5 interpreters - one of each secondary school or college. In the practical part we will find a questionnaire survey of 19 Czech sign language interpreters working in the field of education. This survey aims to determine whether the factors have anticipated impact on interpreters in education during the interpretation process, and if so, to what extent. The Comparison of education system of sign language interpreters in the Czech Republic and in the Netherland

This bachelor thesis focuses on the educational training and background of sign language interpreters in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The theoretical part deals with the development of interpreting, presenting the specifics of the political and social events affecting the education of sign language interpreters in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. It continues by examining the education requirements of sign language interpreters and how these are recognized in the legislation of those states. It aims to inform the reader about the current system of basic education for sign language interpreters, on how to support emerging sign language interpreters, and finally describes the system of lifelong learning sign language interpreters in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The research part, aims to establish the level of satisfaction of sign language interpreters with their current system of education. Based on the data from the survey. It proposed possible solution to how to support the education for sign language interpreters in the Czech Republic.
Spoken and Sign Language Interpreter Training in the Czech Republic and Austria

The thesis focuses on possibilities of spoken and sign language interpreter training in the Czech Republic and Austria. The theoretical part describes the situation of the deaf in the Czech Republic and in Austria and explains the terms connected with communication of the deaf. Furthermore, it contains a brief overview of the history of spoken and sign language interpreter training and a description of the conditions for interpreters in both countries respectively. The most detailed chapters of the theoretical part deal with training institutions for spoken and sign language interpreters. The main focus is on the Institute of Translation studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and the Department of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Graz. The empirical part presents the results of a questionnaire survey conducted among Master students of the two institutes who evaluated how well the university prepares them for their future career.

This bachelor's thesis deals with description of language qualification in czech language and czech sign language, description of interpreter's skills of sign language interpreters corresponding with B2 level according to Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). Its aim is to create the test which tests the level of langauge qualification and interpreter's skills on the base of obtained information and its subsequent using in practice and also support a general discussion about various ways of testing of sign language interpreters. and cooperation among deaf people organizations and professional organizations in our country. Second chapter deals with description of interpreter role. There are described general, psychological and physical demands to interpreter profession Separated chapters deal with destription of language qualification at B2 level according to CEFR , interpreter's skills based on both studying foreign literature and associations of sign langauge intepreters workshop resualts. Directionality Effects on Quality of Interpreted Narrative (Focused on Czech Language and Czech Sign Language)

This bachelor's thesis focuses on directionality effects on quality of outcome narrative within the interpreting between Czech Language and Czech Sign Language. The first section describes the issue of defining quality and it's evaluation in general. Specifically in language interpreting. In the following chapters it deals with working languages of the interpreter and the definition of the term direction in the context of translatology. The last part focuses on children of deaf adults, called CODA, who are active in interpreting profession. The objective of the research section was to reproduce the Dutch research Directionality effects in simultaneous language interpreting: the case of sign language interpreters in The Netherlands (Van Dijk et al., 2011) in our environment on Czech and Czech Sign Language material and comparison of results of the surveys. The findings of this work can serve both fort he development of interpreting students' education and for professional interpreters in their lifelong continuous education.
