It focuses on his intellectual biography in general, with an attempt to capture, describe and informatively complete those aspects of his work and professional activities where the necessary coherent information has not been available so far. The basic methodology of the thesis is qualitative research with as much critical objectivity as possible. The necessary evaluation and interpretation procedures are subordinated to this basic approach and objectives. The text of the dissertation is divided into ten chapters, which structure Neubauer's life into thematic units. Art and Care of Soul in Jan Patočka
Josl, Jan ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor) ; Zátka, Vlastimil (referee) ; Frei, Jan (referee)
Summary: This work approaches Patočka's philosophy of art from the perspective of ‚care of the soul'. The first part of work describes evolution of the ‚care of the soul' in context of Patočka's philosophy of history from he 30s up to 70s. Based on this description I recognize experience of the soul as the experience of human freedom as inseparable from the ethical and methaphysical dimensions. The second part approaches art from this perspective.Patočka's intepretations of art show that Patočka saw art not only as a manifestation of human freedom, but as reflection of human position in the world and his relation to aletheia as well. However, art stays half way between myth and philosophy due to the fact, that the movement of freedom is not as absolute in art as it is in philosophy. This is evident in expressions that art takes from the fields of our emotions and experience and thus still remains for Patočka in connection with the world and our everydayness. Therefore art represents for Patočka only limited experience of the soul. It is mostly the momentum of transcendence that is important and interesting for Patočka in art, but not the results that, no matter how deep, are still insights about the things in the world. Repertoire of songs for one voice of Advent and Christmas period in manuscripts from the workshop of Jan Taborsky from Klokotska Hora
Žižková, Jitka ; Černý, Jaromír (advisor) ; Frei, Jan (referee) ; Kouba, Jan (referee)
The presented work dealing with the repertoire of sacred songs for one voice in handwritten hymnbooks of Jan Taborsky from Klokotska Hora tries to answer the question whether the fact that they come from one clerical workshop influenced considerably the composition of the repertoire of the Advent and Christmas section or not. The essay about the development of the Czech hymnology, oriented for a medieval and Renaissance sacred song, points out the state of research in this field, which is not quite optimal. Mainly the absence of published catalogues of melodies and critical editions of significant sources is still a big obstacle of the research, which should head farther than for covering of white gaps in the basic heuristics. Nevertheless we point out some works here which offer and enable certain comparisons regarding both studies in specialized periodicals and degree works or PhD thesis. We follow the Prague citizen, Renaissance educated person and the owner of a clerical workshop Jan Taborsky not only in the context of the times when he lived taking account of the complicated situation of connections and antagonisms among the Utraquists, New Utraquists and Fraternal Unity {Jednota bratska}, but also as a topic of studies of musicological or generally historical literature. A list and characteristics of...

The Problem of Transcendence in Jan Patočka
Frei, Jan ; Kouba, Pavel (advisor) ; Ritter, Martin (referee) ; Cajthaml, Martin (referee)
This thesis focuses on the problem of transcendence as it appears in Patočka's most relevant papers covering all periods of his work. The problem, conceived as an act of an individual, is examined in its three structural moments - its How, Whence, and Whereto. As for the How, the thesis discerns two kinds of transcendence: a constant and unconscious one that is mostly a matter of sensual perception, and a deliberate one that consists in reflection and, in Patočka's papers from the 60s on, in practical action as well. The Whence is usually the sphere of calculability and utilitarity, or a state when man is distracted in manipulating things and identifies himself with roles that are connected with this manipulation. In all this, human mortality is in control. The Whereto, in Patočka, is symbolized as World, Universal Life, Idea, Being, Appearing and suchlike. In the experience of transcendence, the thesis discovers an active and a passive aspect that may be stressed more or less in particular descriptions. The same applies to the aspects of affirmation and negation between the act of transcendence itself and its empirical manifestations. The thesis, at last, shows three possible failures of transcendence, as indicated by Patočka. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Eternity and Time in Jan Patočka's Studies of Macha's Poetry
Krlínová, Kateřina ; Ritter, Martin (advisor) ; Frei, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with concepts of temporality and eternity in Jan Patočka's text "Time, eternity and temporality in Mácha's work." It examines in detail interpretation of Macha's model of the world, which is linked with Patočka's conception of life movements. In Macha's studies, the temporality is shown as opposite to an idea of eternity. Therefore, the thesis also aims at a clarification of such a concept of eternity and try to find out in which relation it can be to the temporality. The text is grounded in the above mentioned Patočka's study, other Patočka's studies related to the conception of life movements, in poetry of K. H. Mácha and in texts dealing with interpretations of both authors. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
