Spatial differentiation and determinants of new firm formation in Czechia

1 Abstract This thesis deals with spatial variation in formation of new firms in Czechia. The main objective of this work is to identify spatial differentiation among regions in the years 2010-2016. The object is to evaluate, how far are these differences caused by unemployment rate, share of graduates, establishment size and specialization index. The main research methods are linear and geographically weighted regression. Positive and the strongest influence of share of graduates was identified, mainly in the biggest Czech cities and their surroundings. The influence of unemployment rate and establishment size was rejected. Specialization index has significant influence on new firm formation in all sectors but agriculture. Barriers of suburban development between Pardubice and Hradec Králové

A significant suburban development is under way in some municipalities around Pardubice and Hradec Králové nowadays. The bachelor thesis is focused on identification of the municipalities that had not developed themselves in the period from 2000 till today and also on determining the causes of this different development. The not developing municipalities were found mainly close to the border with Central Bohemia region. It is probably caused by weaker influence of regional centres and lower attractiveness that due to worse accessibility to Pardubice and Hradec Králové. The case study compared municipality Namčice and Podůlšany, which had really different development. The different attitudes of mayors were identified as a main difference between these municipalities. The mayor of Podůlšany has a negative attitude to further development, whereas the mayor of Němčice has a positive attitude and actively supports further development.
