Alexander Moyzes: Piano Sonata in E minor, op. 2

The focus of the bachelor thesis is to examine in closer detail the piano composition Piano Sonata in E minor, op. 2 by the Slovakian composer Alexander Moyzes (1906-1984). This is achieved through the compositional-technical analysis of its printed version that was published during the composer's life, in 1947. The aim is not to place the composition primarily within the historical context as a considerable amount of related sources has been collected; a large space of the work is therefore occupied by the analysis of these sources. Through the detailed study of these the thesis attempts to outline the genesis of the above mentioned composition and briefly comment on the development of Moyzes's compositional activities. Jarmil Burghauser - A Composer (Selected Chamber Works for Wind Instruments)

Jarmil Burghauser is mostly known as the editor of the complete critical edition of Antonín Dvořák's work. In addition to that he issued editions of Smetana, Fibich or Janáček. He also instrumented many pieces of these composers. Even though the sources refer to his fruitful activities in the field of composing, Burghauser as a composer is not very known. The aim of this thesis is to introduce Jarmil Burghauser as a composer of chamber music for brass instruments through the analysis of selected compositions. The objective is also to put Burghauser in the context of Czech musical work in the 20th century.

This bachelor thesis deals with the Glagolitic Mass by Karel Douša. Douša's composition is put into the context of contemporary compositional approach to the genre of the Glagolitic Mass and it is compared to other similar works of Douša's contemporaries. The thesis also contains Douša's brief biography and a list of his compositions. The work is completed by the enclosed compact disc with the first - and so far the only- recording of Douša's mass.

Zdeněk Havlíček The Piano Works of Josef Bohuslav Foerster (The Lyrical Piano Pieces of the Turn of the Century) ABSTRACT: The presented thesis deals with the piano works of Josef Bohuslav Foerster - in detail, it is concerned with his lyrical piano pieces from the turn of the century. After mapping out the relevant Foerster-related literature and sources, it approaches the issue of lyrical piano piece as a music genre, and gives a relatively detailed outline of its development in the 19th century. This becomes a background against which, at some points, the nature of the analyzed pieces is to be shown. In the analysis of the piano cycle "Snění" ("Dreamings", 1898), the motivic and thematic processes are the main object, the analysis of the cycle "Růže vzpomínek" ("Roses of Memories", 1902) is dominated by the aspect of harmony and also takes into consideration the context of the various piano genres employed. From the cycle "A jabloně kvetly" ("And the Apple trees blossom", 1905), only the first piece ("Dream") is closely observed. Finally, an attempt is made to discuss the piano works in question in broader musical-historical and musical- historiographical contexts.

Polystylism and Collage in Czech Music in the Second Half of the 20th Century by Robert Škarda Key words: czech music, collage, polystylism, postmodernism, quotation, style contraposition, team composition The topic of my thesis Polystylism and Collage in Czech Music in the Second Half of the 20th Century is the area of Czech composers' works based mainly on style contraposition, stylization of historical or jazz music and usage of quotations. My work is based on assumption of historicity of musical terminology. I consider the notions polystylism and collage as period musical terms and I attempt to reconstruct their meaning. Time definition of the thesis is delimited by the years 1960 and 2000. Lower time limit is selected regarding to nature of the topic - the 60s are the period when works and reflections belonging to the context of the notions polystylism and collage first appeared. The first part of my thesis focuses on the general mapping of the topic polystylism and collage. I summarized relevant musicology literature and I dealed with historical and teoretical relations of polystylism and collage to related terms (first of all postmodernism, montage and style), I was concerned with the context of European and American music and with question of polystylism and collage in Czech popular music....

Viktor Kalabis's Inheritance in the Czech Museum of Music

The first part of the diploma thesis deals with the musical bequest of Viktor Kalabis kept in the Czech Museum of Music and identifies several areas of interest that ensue from this bequest. The objective is to inform of the state and the extent of this bequest and to solve problems related to these sources. The second part of the thesis is an analytical probe into the composer's early and later creative output on the basis of his three piano sonatas the sources of which form part of the bequest. My aim is to characterize the shift in Kalabis's approach to piano sonata as a classical genre of chamber music, and especially in his take on the sonata form. The final part of the diploma thesis presents the catalogue of Kalabis's music bequest in the Czech Museum of Music and contains a detailed description of the individual sources. Cabaret "Červená sedma" in the light of archival materials of Czech Radio

This bachelor's thesis maps the situation, in which the archive of the "Červená sedma" cabaret, that is in large part deposited in rooms of the Czech Radio archive, in the present days is found. It compares the dates from the former catalogue, that was managed by the members of the cabaret themselves, with the real today's situation. It even shows individual differences and discrepancies, that were during the revision found. This thesis also concentrates on the "Červená sedma" as a part of the Czech or more precisely the Czechoslovak Radio broadcasting and encourages programmes, in which this company occured, either directly by its members, or indirectly through the actors of other generations or memorial programmes devoted to it.
