New trends in pavement maintenance
Březina, Ilja ; Stryk, Josef (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The diploma thesis is dealing with the topic of new trends in asphalt road routine maintenance with a focus on new possibilities to repair damaged road surface, especially potholes and cracks. In the diploma thesis, a new advice which uses microwave heating in resurfacing asphalt roads was developed with the aim to observe its effectiveness and the optimal repair time. The obtained results were consulted with the producer of the equipment in order to utilize this new technology for repairing potholes and cracks on asphalt road surface in standard practice.
Evaluation of asphalt pavements bearing capacity based on Traffic Speed Deflectometer diagnostics
Březina, Ilja ; Gschwendt,, Ivan (referee) ; Čelko,, Ján (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The submitted dissertation focuses on the use of a Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) for diagnosing bearing capacity of asphalt pavements, verifying a new method of non-destructive deflection measurements, and producing a method for indicative evaluation of asphalt pavement bearing capacities at the network level in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes the principle of TSD device measurements, evaluation methods for measured data, and summarizes the existing foreign experience with TSD devices, including the correlation with a Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). The practical part contains an analysis of performed measurements, evaluates the findings of studying the correlation between a TSD device and an FWD device during a comparative measurement in the Czech Republic, and presents a calculation method for deflections from primary data measured by the TSD device. Based on the obtained results, a method for indicative evaluation of asphalt pavements bearing capacities at the network level is designed.
Application of new and progressive diagnostic methods on transport infrastructure objects - implementation process
Styk, Josef ; Březina, Ilja ; Matula, Radek ; Janků, Michal ; Grošek, Jiří
In order to maintain the proper condition of buildings, bridges, roads and other structures, their regular maintenance is essential. Often, if the distress is detected at the beginning of the disorder, the cost of removing it is far lower than after months of uncontrolled degradation. Locating a distress in time, often means detecting it before it is visible to the naked eye. A key means of detecting hidden distresses is non-destructive diagnostic methods (NDT). The purpose of the proposed methodology is to clarify the procedure for introducing new non-destructive diagnostic methods into practice in order to exploit their potential and to replace them or to suitably complement the existing methods. There are presented selected NDT methods and possibilities of their application on selected transport infrastructure objects, including the contribution of comparative measurements (round robin tests) and the creation of illustrative cases of the application of new NDT methods. The presented methodology was prepared within project TE01020168 - Centre for Effective and Sustainable Transport Infrastructure (CESTI), with financial support of the Czech Technology Agency within the Centre of Competence Program. This methodology is intended primarily for the state authorities, the transport infrastructure administrators and companies dealing with diagnostic surveys.

Evaluation of pavement condition by combination of FWD device and ground penetrating radar
Stryk, Josef ; Březina, Ilja ; Matula, Radek ; Grošek, Jiří ; Janků, Michal
The combination of two non-destructive diagnostic devices – the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) used to assess the bearing capacity of pavements and the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) used to determine the thickness of structural layers, to identify inhomogeneities, hidden defects and failures are increasingly being used in pavement diagnostics. The purpose of the methodology is to specify the procedure for performing measurements of combinations of these two devices, in the context of conducting a diagnostic survey of pavements. It draws attention to the benefits of processing data measured by both devices and their use in creating homogeneous sections, which serve as a basis for planning of maintenance, repair and reconstruction of roads. The presented methodology was prepared within project TE01020168 – Centre for Effective and Sustainable Transport Infrastructure (CESTI), with state support of the Czech Technology Agency within the Centre of Competence Program. This methodology is intended primarily for companies dealing with pavement diagnostic surveys
