Induction of lipid catabolism and mitochondrial biogenesis in white adipose tissue as therapeutic target for obesity and associated metabolic disorders
Adamcová, Kateřina ; Janovská, Petra (advisor) ; Tencerová, Michaela (referee) ; Cahová, Monika (referee)
Adipose tissue is not only crucial in the storage of excessive fat and its release but also plays important role in the secretion of endo/para- and autocrine factors, thus influencing energy metabolism on the whole body level. The incapability of adipose tissue to meet its responsibilities leads to whole-body metabolic problems resulting in type 2 diabetes, storing of fat in the liver, coronary disease, and other diseases. How to prevent development of obesity and its consequences and/or completely reverse it, is a subject of great scientific interest. Activation of brown adipose tissue (BAT) and brite cells via induction of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and/or stimulation of UCP1-independent energy-dissipating metabolic pathways such as futile cycles in white adipose tissue may be a promising path to fulfill this goal. This thesis is based on results from experiments with two cold-exposed inbred murine strains differing in the propensity to obesity and murine experiments with diet-induced obesity prevented by n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Mice resistant to diet-induced obesity (A/J mice) showed higher induction of triacylglycerol (TAG)/fatty acid (FA) futile cycle in epididymal white adipose tissue by cold exposure in comparison to obesity-prone B6 mice. Interestingly, the level of both...
TOWN HOUSE IN A COMPACT CITY, OLD BRNO
Adamcová, Kateřina ; Todorov, Petr (referee) ; Kiszka, Josef (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor‘s thesis is the design of a town house in the locality of Old Brno. The work builds on a previous urban study, which addressed the issue of the future of the assigned locality. The design of the building reflects the current requirements for family living, housing for singles and a co-housing form of housing. At the same time, it opens up to the public with semi-public and public spaces and connects to surrounding areas of various kinds. It creates a new cultural point of the locality on the street corner and the inner part of the newly designed monoblock is left to the public greenery. Following this fact, a non-traditional form of house communication is chosen, the outdoor gallery corridor, which opens into a green courtyard. The result of the design is, on the one hand, a modern town house with a functional ground floor and, on the other hand, an apartment building with residential balconies.
The role of uncoupling proteins (UCP) in cardioprotection
Furmánková, Tereza ; Horníková, Daniela (advisor) ; Adamcová, Kateřina (referee)
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world's leading cause of death. Almost 18 million people die of CVD each year, and the prevalence continues to rise for both men and women. It is now clear that the maintenance of mitochondrial membrane potential can play an important role in the pathophysiology of the heart and it is involved in cardioprotective mechanisms. Mitochondrial membrane potential can be affected in a various of ways, one of them is the stimulation of uncoupling proteins. An elaboration of previous findings in this work has shown that uncoupling proteins have the effect of reducing oxygen radicals, inhibiting apoptosis, affect the production of ATP and atherosclerotic plaques and protect the heart from lipid toxicity. There are several ways to regulate their gene expression, and influencing these pathways may be a way to achieve cardioprotection. Key words: uncoupling proteins, mitochondria, cardioprtoection, thyroid hormones, fatty acids, adipose tissue, reactive oxygen species, FGF21
Statues in Lysa nad Labem castle garden
Dörflová, Jana ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Adamcová, Kateřina (referee)
The subject of interest of this work is the collection of statues ordered by Count František Antonín Špork, placed in 1735 in the castle garden at Lysá nad Labem. This collection is made up of 32 statues and is made up of primarily allegorical subjects (allegories of the Seasons, the Continents, Day and Night, the Elements, and the Twelve months). It is supplemented by Pairs of lionesses, lions, and sphinxes. Originally the collection was attributed to the workshop of M. B. Braun, more recently it has been credited to "Sculptors from Benátky", which is most commonly identified in literature with František Adámek from Benátky nad Jizerou. In the first part of this written work, the person of F. A. Špork will be briefly introduced as the one who commissioned the works of art. Another part of the work deals with the history and the sculptural decoration of the castle gardens. The central and most comprehensive part of the work consists of a detailed description of the collection with links to photographic documentation in an attachment. The work is focused on the formal analysis of the sculptures of the collection, to identify their characteristics and comparison with the works of M. B. Braun. The final part of the work deals with authorship of the collection. Existing knowledge from various sources...

The communication strategy of the Knižní klub company
Adamcová, Kateřina ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the communication strategy of Knižní klub publisher since its establishment till the end of the year 2013. Knižní klub belongs to publishers that mostly in 90s' formed Czech literary culture by its business model. Until recently it was a part of the world media group Bertelsmann, which has operated literary clubs all over the world since 50s' of the 20th century. It entered the Czech Republic shortly after the revolution and brought many forbidden titles. The policy of edition represented the mix of the quality world literature and also the whole range of saleable books which copied actual readers' trends. On this basis, I focus on historical background and its influence of the policy of edition. Then I deal with the development of the literary club after the year 1989. With The Knižní klub publisher, which has gone through several changes from distribution company to appropriate publisher, I try to target the communicational activities in socio-cultural context. Communication strategy was observed through club catalogues and media. Media image in social-cultural supplements Víkend Mladé fronty Dnes, Salon Práva and critical monthly journal Literární noviny is also part of the text and helps to understand the strategy of the publisher.
Three (four) generations of sculpture family Kitzinger
Loub, Kryštof ; Adamcová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Sekyrka, Tomáš (referee)
Kryštof Loub, Tři (čtyři) generace sochařské rodiny Kitzingerů (diplomová práce), ÚDU FF UK Abstract This MA thesis aims to investigate and verify the current resources and literature about the Kitzinger family of sculptors, who created art in Litoměřice, Milešov, Prague, and Osek for three (even four) generations. Following the first chapter, which aims to critically evaluate the existing research about the family, comes a chapter entirely devoted to archival sources which reference the Kitzinger family. Through these archival sources, including not only contracts for specific works of art and the like, but also registry entries and others, I intend to present the family in their wider socio-cultural context. The greater part of the work is in the chapter focused on the so-called Milešov sculpture workshop (sometime before 1672-1688), founded by Abrahám Kitzinger, of the first generation of sculptors. This text describes and examines individual sculpture commissions conntected to the Kitzingers in northern Bohemia. Two more detailed chapters then focus on the sculpture commissions of Abrahám Felix Kitzinger, representing the middle generation in Prague (1691-1695/6) and then Osek (1696- sometime after 1701). The work concludes with a chapter of transcriptions of the archival documents I worked with in...
