The specificity of teaching russian frazeology for czech filology students

The dissertation is dedicated to the analysis of process of teaching Russian phraseological units to Czech students-philologists. The author analyze the main problematics associated with Russian phraseology. The emphasis of the research is on the problem of the phraseological minimum. The second part the dissertation is dedicated to modern approaches, methodology of teaching Russian phraseology and different informational tools that is most commonly used during the learning process. As a result, the author shows the example of the lesson, which might be applied during the study process or might be taken as a model of the workshop devoted to the Russian phraseology. Selected Administrative Style Genres in Teaching Czech to Native Speakers of Russian at Secondary Schools

The dissertation focuses on teaching of so called advanced writing (in Czech) to secondary- school pupils who are native Russian speakers. We investigate the topic in the framework of a specific curriculum topic, i.e. administrative style genres. The aim of the dissertation is a) to identify the approach of teachers and that of Russian-speaking pupils towards this particular part of the curriculum, b) to assess the differences between texts of the chosen genres written by Czech pupils and pupils with Russian mother tongue, and, finally, c) to propose didactic solution for teaching the given administrative style genres to Russian-speaking pupils. We approach the topic with qualitative research methods. The practical part of the thesis consists of four parts. In the first one, on the basis of interviews, we analyse the teachers' approach, collect the evidence of critical places as well as examples of good practice. The second part looks closely at the Russian-speaking pupils' view. It has been discovered the pupils often cannot evaluate their language competences objectively, and generally, they lack metacognitive skills. PhDr. Karel Šebesta, CSc. Abstract: The thesis deals with the topic of Czech as a second language, while introducing methods of corpus linguistics as applied to texts produced by language learners. The context is the process of building and exploiting a learner corpus, with a focus on its error mark-up and options for evaluating the annotation scheme. Learner corpora have become a major resource for investigating a learner interlanguage and a significant incentive for many different types of research and teaching of second/foreign languages. They are used mainly for contrastive studies of native and non-native speakers, i.e. for contrastive interlanguage analysis, and for computer-aided error analysis of the learner language. This kind of analysis is crucially dependent on the type and quality of the error mark-up. PhDr. Martina Šmejkalová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The research project deals with children's nicknames from the linguistic and linguodidactic point of view. Nicknames are verbal means of realization of the communication act of addressing and a manifestation of a specific communicative strategies in the classroom. A research of such kind has not yet been carried out in the Czech Republic. We used a questionnaire as a research method. The main research was carried out in two phases and its main purpose was 1.) description and characteristics of 562 nicknames of 8th grade primary school pupils and of the same age group pupils attending "gymnaziums" (eight-year grammar schools) focusing on the motivation of the origin of the nicknames; and 2.) detailed characteristics of 45 selected nicknames focusing on the functioning (perception and experience) in school language communication, from the perspective of the productor (a group where the nickname originated and where it is used), the recipient (a bearer of the nickname) and independent evaluators. The dissertation The Linguistic Picture of Death, Afterlife and Dying in Primary and Secondary School Pupils is devoted to the reconstruction of the linguistic picture of death in these groups of pupils, its mutual comparison and its comparison with the developed psychological concept of death. Furthermore, it describes how the taboo of this topic manifests itself in the pupils' linguistic picture of death and which modifications of the linguistic picture of the world are shown in the linguistic picture of death among pupils. In the first part, the dissertation deals with the concept of death in language and culture, and thus also with the linguistic and socio-cultural taboo of this phenomenon. We deal with the development of the conception of death in history and also the development of the concept of death of children and youth. The theoretical frame for this work is based on the methods of cognitive linguistics and its approach to linguistic research. Metaphorical patterns in onomastics recognizable by pupils and students

This dissertation thesis deals with metaphorical patterns in a specific language material - names for partner (pet names) as recognizabled by pupils of age 14 to 16 and students of age 18 to 20. Names for partner, i. e. ways of mutual calling between a two people making a couple, were selected due to its strong metaphorical character. Their ambiguous affiliation with proper names, or common name enabled critical evaluation of structural and functional definition of proper names as well. Furthemore they enable to present a cognitive view on proper names especially based on emphasizing the conotative part of meaning and metaphorical nature of humans' thinking. The research was based on questionnaire divided into two parts and group and individual interviews with girls. The sufficient lexicological material gained due to the first part of questionnaire became a matter of metaphorical conceptualizations' analysis dealing with conceptualizations of partner (love). Thanks to the individual interviews the communication and pragmatic analysis of names for partner was performed. Second part of questionnaire and group interviews with girls enabled the detailed analysis of connotations and metaphorical perception of thirteen names intended for ladies. Effectiveness of the Creative Writing Method to Develop Writing Skills in Czech as Foreign/Second Language

This dissertation concentrates on the development of writing skills in learners of Czech as a foreign/second language at A2-B2 levels. It aims to determine whether creative writing has positive influence on linguistic and discursive competence in acquiring Czech, as opposed to classic approaches. For these purposes, a probe was conducted in form of a one-semester qualitative action research. The sample consisted of 30 non-native University respondents. They were divided into two experimental and two control groups - with upmost regard to their comparability in terms of language levels, socio-linguistic parameters, the genres and topics assigned, as well as the number of lessons taught. In experimental groups, the writing skills was developed by the method of creative writing while the control groups were taught by means of traditional approach. After the semester, in case of experimental group I and control group I (at levels B1/B2), comparable increase in competences took place, therefore it can be concluded that the creative writing method may influence the development of the writing skills positively. In case of experimental group II and control group II (at levels A2/B1), the results are ambiguous. Nevertheless, the experimental groups̕ respondents had higher sureness in drafting.

Exploring case forms of Czech nouns and their ranking in semantic (collocational) classes

This dissertation aims to identify and analyse the frequency distribution of mor- phological forms of nouns in contemporary Czech. The work is based on an error analysis of texts of non-native speakers revealing and describing frequent types of errors in noun inflection. Against the background of recent research in the field of second language acquisition on the one hand and the principles of communicative approaches to language teaching on the other hand nine textbooks of Czech as a foreign language are analysed for approaches to the introduction and presentation of grammatical cases, their functions and typical constructions. It is concluded that it is necessary to exemplify case functions by prototypical constructions and sufficient sample nouns for which these functions are typical. With regard to the often observed emphasis on the noun as a part of the inflectional paradigm and thus on the nominative singular as its basic form, it is eligible for textbooks and language classes to shift the focus from the dominant paradigmatic to the syntag- matic aspect of nouns and their word forms.
