Roebuck, Olga ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Mánek, Bohuslav (referee) ; Franková, Milada (referee)
This dissertation deals with the possibility of expressing cultural identities in contemporary literature. Scottish literature was chosen as it stands for a country which has been undergoing significant changes in its self-definition. The Scottish nation is still searching for its position within larger European or global structures. Thus, it provides an interesting basis for examining the validity of such concepts as nation, state or national culture during a period of time which has tended to abandon these traditional structures under the influence of globalisation. This cultural process of re-definition fuels an outburst of literary creativity and since the beginning of the 1980s, Scottish literature has been experiencing an incredible boom aiming mainly to get rid of traditional and limiting cultural representations. The dissertation is based on cultural and literary analysis. Cultural analysis starts with characterising the contemporary Scottish cultural context, typical mainly for its traditional dualities and internal oppositions, such as nation and region, coloniser and colonised, Highland and Lowland, Scottish and British, male and female. Most of these dualities have historical roots and the task of this text is also to find out to what extent these are valid today and how they influence...

External rating and validation
Lapešová, Michaela ; Pečená, Magda (advisor) ; Horváth, Roman (referee)
The growing importance of external rating may draw increased attention to the reliability of credit risk evaluation. The aim of this thesis is to analyze a contemporary external rating position as an instrument for evaluation of a subject's ability to meet its obligations. The study provides theoretical foundations of credit risk modeling as well as empirical application to a collected data set. For the sake of validation of a selected rating system a simple default study is presented on the basis of this data set. Limited information allows just for a brief survey of short rating history in the Czech Republic. The world rating history is comprehensive and it becomes an integral part of clients' creditworthiness assessment within the New Basel Capital Accord. With its growing importance the rating has been recently facing criticism. The thesis focuses mainly on the comments on the cyclical tendencies of rating and provides and empirical analysis using data from Visegrad group countries. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Macháčová, Paulína ; Pauknerová, Monika (advisor) ; Brodec, Jan (referee)
in English The purpose of this master's thesis is to analyse the interfaces between international arbitration and litigation within the Brussels' jurisdictional regime. Arbitration has always been excluded from the scope of the Brussels' regime. However, the exact scope of this exclusion was always unclear and subject to long lasting debates and disputes. The consequences of determining whether a certain issue falls within the exclusion or not are far reaching and may seriously jeopardise the enforceability of an arbitration agreement and the effectiveness of arbitration in general. The main problem connected with the uncertainty regarding the actual scope of the arbitration exclusion, is the risk of parallel proceedings and conflicting judgements. Firstly, this thesis provides a general characteristic of alternative dispute resolution with focus on international arbitration and sources of its regulation. The overview of the history of the arbitration exclusion follows in order to create a foundation for the following analysis of the exclusion itself. The core part of the thesis aims to determine the scope of the arbitration exclusion, mainly through the analysis of the CJEU's case law and relevant literature. Special attention is paid to the judgements on validity of an arbitration agreement and...
