Liquid Biofuels in EU: Development of the Usage and Possible Relations
Valeš, Jiří ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šatra, Jan (referee)
The thesis describes history, context and present situation of liquid biofuels usage in transport in the EU and with the help of basic statistical indicators researches the development of differences of the importance of biofuels in Member States. For these purposes a database of shares of biofuels in energy consumption in transport is created. If we understand the shares of biofuels as indicators of the intensity or the significance of biofuels usage, we can exemine its differences. With the help of Lorenz curve the development of rate of biofuels production inequality is described. Thesis is looking for possible relations to differencies in intensity of biofuels usage in Member states. With the main contribution of literature, there are several characteristics chosen and there are examined their relations to shares of biofuels with the help of Spearman correlation coeficient. In the closure of the thesis their possible influence on biofuels usage is discoussed. Key words: liquid biofuels, useage, share of biofuels, correlation

Nuclear power phase-out in Germany
Koňasová, Alena ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dvořák, Pavel (referee)
The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to explore the nuclear power phase-out in the Federal Republic of Germany. The core part of this thesis focuses on the process which had led to the signature of the Atomic Energy Act Amendment in 2002. Since the way how the German public and some political parties came to the nuclear power phase-out is of significant importance, the development of opinions on atomic energy in the German public between 1955 and 1986 is described at the beginning. The next chapter presents the attitude to the nuclear power phase-out in the elections to Bundestag in 1998 on the basis of election programs of political parties (CDU/CSU, FDP, SPD, Bündniss 90/Die Grünen, PDS). The second part of the thesis deals with the process which resulted in the Atomic Energy Act Amendment. Firstly, the creation of the new government and negotiations about the new coalition agreement are explained. Consequently, the thesis deals with the suggestions of the two coalition parties how the nuclear power phase-out should be arranged. This is pointed out at the concepts which both government parties prepared. Also the reasons for founding the forum "Energiedialog 2000" are presented. The end of this part deals with the negotiation between the government and energy concerns which resulted in "die Vereinbarung...

Geopolitical impact of China's search for energy on the Indian Ocean and South China Sea
Rodd, William ; Hrishabh, Sandilya (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
This thesis examines the geopolitical consequences of China's search for energy resources on the Indian Ocean and South China Sea. It provides a brief outline of the energy situation of the world as a whole, specifically how it is becoming a more globalized and singular market. This change is occurring at the same time as a pronounced shift away from the traditional measurements of 'power' towards 'softer' more subtle definitions. There is a brief section outlining the geopolitical teachings of Alfred T. Mahan, specifically how he advocated seapower primarily for the purpose of providing the stability and security necessary for trade. Chinese analysts have been embracing the teachings of Mahan, but also interpreting them in a way that justifies the naval buildup Beijing has been embarking on in recent years. The paper briefly looks at the potential sources that China could turn to meet its energy needs, but concludes that it will have to rely on oil for the foreseeable future. It then attempts to define overall Chinese interests, specifically how nearly all of these relate somehow to energy security, thus underlining the importance of this topic to leaders in Beijing. The last half of the work delves into a geopolitical analysis of the Indian Ocean and South China Sea, and how militarization in the...

Oil and gas pipelines policy of Kazakhstan
Auyesbayeva, Saltanat ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The importance of Kazakhstan as being oil and gas supplier has been steadily growing in the last decade. The policy of Government of Kazakhstan has focused on the energy sector. Kazakhstan is an oil rich country. Nevertheless it does not have direct access to the sea and international markets. Thus, it has to look for ways to export hydrocarbons. The best way to transport oil and gas is using pipelines. This thesis deal with oil and gas pipelines policy of Kazakhstan after independence. Introductory part describes newly emerged geopolitics in Central Asia. The following chapter offers a brief outline of what pipelines do function in Kazakhstan. The next part is an analysis of the policy of Kazakhstan towards oil and gas industry. The following parts cover foreign policy of Kazakhstan towards its neighbors and economics of the pipelines. The last part discusses what new export pipelines will be constructed in the nearest future. The author concludes that for the time being Kazakhstan is heavily dependent on Russia, all its efforts to diversify its export routes notwithstanding. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Construction of pseudoscalar meson amplitudes in chiral perturbation theory using a dispersive approach
Zdráhal, Martin ; Novotný, Jiří (advisor) ; Bijnens, Johan (referee) ; Ecker, Gerhard (referee)
Title: Construction of pseudoscalar meson amplitudes in chiral perturbation theory using a dispersive approach Author: Martin Zdráhal Department: Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague Supervisor: RNDr. Jiří Novotný, CSc. Abstract: We have developed a method enabling a construction of two-loop 2 → 2 scatter- ing amplitudes of pseudoscalar mesons based on the dispersion and the unitarity relations. This method is illustrated on the construction of the amplitudes of all such processes in chiral perturbation theory in isospin limit taking into account strong interactions only. Then it was used for the construction of ππ scattering amplitudes and of K → 3π and η → 3π decay amplitudes including isospin breaking effects induced by different masses of the particles belonging to the same isomultiplet. These parametrizations are prepared for various phenomenological analyses of the ππ scattering lengths and of the isospin breaking effects, both of which could pro- vide us important information for the understanding of quantum chromody- namics at low energies. Finally, we have performed the phenomenological study of η → 3π decay and obtained a value of the quark mass ratio 1/R = (md − mu)/(ms − ˆm). Our conservative estimate is R = 39.6+2.5 −5.1....

Energy metabolism of the Prague city
Fikar, Pavel
2 Abstract City is complex urban system. In human society city is biggest energy dissipative structure. Therefore it is important to understand how energy flows in to city, what main energy carriers are and what total energy requirements are. Prague was chosen as a model city for this case study. Prague is modern city, capital of the country housing, employing, accommodating and entertaining more than one and half million people daily. There are some significant differences between average country energy consumption and Prague energy consumption. Prague is touristic centre and destination of many travellers that come to country. Also Prague lack high concentration of heavy industry. There are very few electricity producers, most of time small entertainment or producers electricity from alternative fuels (e.g. central water treatment facility) and most of electricity is transported to Prague from other regions. Heat is produced from primary fuels centrally, but there is significant flow of heat through heat pipe from other regions. This diploma thesis presents results of the case study on Prague energy metabolism. There were accounted primary energy fuels (coal, oil, gas) as well as their derivates (e.g. fuel for cars driving in Prague) and final energy use. To do proper analysis of particular component of...

The Factor of Water in Central Asia
Kopajová, Zuzana ; Horák, Slavomír (advisor) ; Šír, Jan (referee)
The final thesis Factor o f Water in Central Asia presents an analysis of the phenomena of trans-boundary water interaction in the Aral Sea basin. Particular attention is given to the emerging political inter-state and regional affairs, connected to international management and security at Syr Darya and Amu Darya rivers. Global hydro-politics debates offer various theoretical frameworks of approaching the inter-state water relations. Theories such as Integrated Water Resource Management, Environmental Security and Hydro-Hegemony are explored with the ambition to find a comprehensive research background for our case studies. Thereafter, the theory is applied to the particular negotiating constellations in the Central Asian water basins. The case studies at Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers illustrate several interesting cleavages, for example between: (1) upstream and downstream riparian states; (2) irrigation and hydropower; (3) water and energy; (4) geopolitics and international law; (5) national and regional affairs. Central Asian water situation is perceived in the context of geopolitics; economic and human development; culturally-historical background and future potential challenges. Further we present, the overall tendencies in the Newly Independent States, consequences of the Aral Sea catastrophe and the...

Perpectives of crude oil market developement
Vosková, Michala ; Lukáš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kalínská, Emílie (referee)
Crude oil is an important commodity of world trade and it has become an essential part of everyday life. It is a necessary condition of economic growth, which in the current situation of economic boom of China, India and other developing countries entails an economically, ecologically, socially and geopolitically unsustainable problem. The turbulent sequence of past events on the crude oil market only foreshadows the future development that is going to occure after achieving the crude oil production peak. The following irreversible changes will be more revolutionary than evolutional. The era of cheap oil will parish and the 21st century is going to be distinguished by fights for energy and resources. This is one of the reasons why many renowned institutions and organisations are concerned with these questions, trying to predict future scenarios and find feasible solutions. The world needs secure, renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources, however crude oil is unfortunately none of them. Radical transition from crude oil economy to a clean alternative one, that is probably the most suitable solution to current situation, will require engagement of governments, organisations and individuals as well. It is an inevitable step of preserving the world for humanity and the coming generations. Crude oil market perspectives are quite well foreseeable for the coming decades, questionable remains only the proper solution of the rising problems and action of taking the correct steps in the right direction.
