Interaction between TiAl melt and coated oxide refractories
Dočekalová, Kateřina ; Dlouhý, Antonín ; Zemčík, L. ; Fiala, J.
The present study focuses on reactions between ceramic crucibles and molten TiAl intermetallics. Coating strategies are investigated that exhibit a potential in slowing down the decomposition of the crucible wall. Uncoated crucibles (system TiAl melt - Al2O3 crucible) and crucibles with the coat (system TiAl melt - CaO coat - Al2O3 crucible) were used in melting and casting experiments. The reference state of the coated crucible before the melting trial was also investigated. Results of the SEM, EDAX and X-ray diffraction analysis contributed to the identification of the reaction zone and its chemical composition. The melt contamination with oxide inclusions results from the erosion process in which individual components of the melt diffuse along grain boundaries of the refractory and activate chemical reactions that decompose the crucible wall. Assessment of thermodynamic parameters associated with the chemical reactions helped in identifying the nature of the erosion process.

Investment Decision Making of State and Local Governments
Kula, David ; Fotr, Jiří (advisor) ; Ochrana, František (referee) ; Potluka, Oto (referee)
The topic of this dissertation thesis is collection, analysis and evaluation of information about investment decisions making within public administration bodies. The investment decision making is examined in relation to allocation of public funds on investment activities and projects. The main goal of this thesis is to analyze and evaluate the current status of the investment decision making within the public sector. Subsequently the goal is to offer new or updated knowledge related to these issues, and bring recommendations to improve the investment decision making of public administration bodies. At first, there are described current knowledge in the field of investment decision making. This is followed by an analysis of assessment methods used for evaluation and selection of investment projects. The work is completed by recommendations for investment decisions making in the form of a normative model. The model should increase benefits of public investment expenses for society. There are used data obtained through a questionnaire survey of 430 subsidized firms, 169 state organizational units and state funds and 130 cities, boroughs and counties. Another important source of information was secondary data of selected ministries and agencies, legislation and literature.

Speculation on oil markets and its impact on commodity's price
Melcher, Ota ; Taušer, Josef (advisor) ; Baláž, Peter (referee) ; Müller, Štěpán (referee)
This study aims to analyse the precrisis period on the oil markets with a primary objective of assessing the role of speculation in the commodity's price development and its volatility. First it depicts the rapidly increasing speculative activity on the futures market together with the parallel oil price surge. The speculation is initially proxied by non-commercial traders' positions and subsequently quantified by Working's T-index. The paper then uses speculative traders' positions and both spot and futures prices to test for Granger causality within the framework of VAR models. For the sake of consistency it also evaluates causal links between speculation and inventories level. Further the study investigates the speculation impact on volatility of oil prices by employing various approaches in volatility quantification including GARCH models. Contrary to expectations we find that the speculatio's impact on both prices and their volatility is rather insignificant. In the last chapter we therefore seek for an explanation of the oil price developments by examining the market fundamentals. The interaction of supply and demand finally gives substantial evidence for understanding the price developments in the precrisis period.

Assessment of resistance castables to chemically aggressive environments.
Mátl, Daniel ; Henek,, Milan (referee) ; Nevřivová, Lenka (advisor)
There are applications of refractory concretes for places where these are exposed to corrosive environments. This bachelor thesis deals with both description the corrosive effects and methodology of their testing. One of the most important properties of materials, affecting the chemical corrosion resistance, is their density. The practical part of the thesis is focused on testing the grogs which are currently used for production of refractory concrete. The aggregates were tested for the resistance to sulfuric acid.

Ultrasonographic evaluation of cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with Fabry disease
Paleček, Tomáš ; Bultas, Jan (advisor) ; Pudil, Radek (referee) ; Kittnar, Otomar (referee)
Fabry disease is an X-linked glycosphingolipid storage disorder caused by deficient activity of the lysosomal enzyme α-galactosidase A. This leads to progressive intracellular accumulation of neutral glycosphingolipids, mainly globotriaosylceramide. Besides various extracardiac disease-related abnormalities, cardiovascular involvement represents a typical manifestation of Fabry disease. The primary underlying mechanism relies on pathological substrate accumulation in cardiomyocytes, conduction system cells, valvular fibroblasts, endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. The development of cardiac and vascular hypertrophy represents a characteristic cardiovascular feature of Fabry disease. The aim of our studies was to describe in detail cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with Fabry disease using ultrasonography, which currently represents basic noninvasive imaging modality in cardiology. We focused on structural and functional abnormalities of ventricles, valvular apparatus and their relationship to vascular involvement expressed on common carotid arteries. We also compared the diagnostic accuracy of the two novel echocardiographic methods used for the left ventricular diastolic function assessment. The possible existence of circulating proliferative factor, which might be associated with...

Agression measurement and assessment using methods of psychological diagnostics
Harsa, Pavel ; Žukov, Ilja (advisor) ; Hynek, Karel (referee) ; Kratochvíl, Stanislav (referee)
We have tried in doctoral thesis to objectively verify usability of questionnaires and projective methods in evaluation of aggressiveness of psychiatric patients. In the theoretical part of the study we discuss definitions of aggression and aggressiveness. There is a number of theoretic interpretations of aggressiveness and aggression in which these general terms are characterized. Most authors and single theory are in full agreement of views that there are two types of aggression, aceptable and unacceptable for society. We have aimed at bio-psycho-social aspects of aggression and the structure of aggressive personality. Nowadays there are many branches of science, which are engaged in aggressiveness, for example genetics, biology and psychology. It is evidence to support the view that aggressiveness is a serious problem in human society. At the same timee it is difficult to find empiric assessment of aggression. (...) In conclusion: These results verify clinical and forensic experience with assessment and measurement of aggressiveness. Test methods show much more general temperament dispositions, tendency to emotional reaction and to explosive reactions. Information and experience from this thesis could be helpful for assessment of emotional aggression in psychiatric patients and for forensic practie....

Total daily energy expenditure of women in different trimesters of pregnancy
Malíková, Petra ; Hronek, Miloslav (advisor) ; Kudláčková, Zděnka (referee)
Background: Total daily energy expenditure of Czech women in particular trimesters of pregnancy is a lowly explored part of energy metabolism. Objective: The purpose of our study was to estimate total daily energy expenditure and basal metabolic rate in particular trimesters of pregnant women in the Czech Republic and to compare our values with these presented in foreign literature. Design: The study was based on 409 assessments. The base was created by questionnaires where women described all of their activities of a certain day. Women also gave details of an exact time of duration for each activity. For matematical assessmetns there were used a specially designed program Energy expenditure 2 and a statistic program GraphPad Prism 4. As the value of basal metabolic rate were considerated values obtained according to Harrise-Benedict equation and consequently modified by multiplication factors (1,035 for the first trimester, 1,062 for the second trimester and 1,177 for the third trimester). These factors were obtained from clinical assessment of basal metabolic rate in Teaching hospital in Hradec Králové. The same factors were used for estimating of total daily energy expenditure. In our study there are described also other energy characteristics - activity energy expenditure, psysical activity...
