Equine-assisted therapy in the Czech Republic. Investigation of organizations engaged in equine-assisted therapy aiming at organization, theory and practice

Assistance as compensatory and supporting means of the special pedagogy
PÝCHOVÁ, Lucie
My Bachelor thesis is focused on the topic of "Assistance as a compensation and support to special pedagogy". The aim of my bachelor thesis is to complete theoretical knowledge related to the assistance phenomenon and to analyse the occupation of personal assistant. The aim of practical part of my bachelor thesis is to implement the comparison of legislative determination and provable working activities carried out by pedagogical and personal assistant. In accordance with the aimes specified above has been established two partial aims. 1st aim: to examine what the assistants´ work motivation is. 2nd aim: to examine the level of assistants´ self contentment.Thesis is devided into two parts theoretical and practical one.Theoretical part is devided into three units. First unit defines the key words: assistance, compensation and support, special pedagogy, social integration and inclusion. Second unit is focused on personal assistance itself. Related key words are defined as well. In this unit I also describe a historical development of the personal assistance process, working demands placed on potential assistant, possible complications related to mentioned occupation and of course everyday work routine. Third unit is focused on the personality of assistant and assistants themselves. I describe the historici development of the assistants´ personality, work requirements, work duty and cooperation with parents and educational institutions. Practical part contains the specification of work aims, methodology of investigation, related data gathering process and of course the data analysis. I interviewed pedagogical assistants just as the personal ones. All the data and results contained in my bachelor thesis can be used for needs of any related organisation recruiting new assistants, because it contains informations which could be useful when hiring people. My thesis can be also used as a background material for any further students.

Provision of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies and the biggest organizations in Czech Republic and Slovak Republic
Jindříšková, Jana ; Doležalová, Jana (advisor)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to define conditions for providing the ill with Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies. In this way the readers can learn a definition of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies, what education and experience therapists who want to implement this practice should have and what requirements should a horse meet to be used in the therapy. In the next part I do research on coverage of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies expenses by insurance companies not only in Czech, but also in Slovak Republic. The research also includes answers to the questions, what criteria should a patient meet to get hippotherapy care covered and what attitude to such care the insurance companies have. Besides problems in relations insurance company, patient and centre of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies, in my thesis I describe the biggest centers of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies in Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.

Evaluation of animal assisted therapy in hospitals
Zoulová, Kateřina ; Machová, Kristýna (advisor) ; Chaloupková, Helena (referee)
This work deals with the use of Animal- assisted activities (AAA) and Animal- assisted therapy (AAT) in hospitals in the world and in the Czech Republic. There is a general overview of the use of this therapy in children´s hospitals, hospitals with acute care for people with dementia, patients with acute schizophrenic, cancer and neurological diseases, in this work. There is description of locating and real course of these programs in this work and presentation of specific dog use units in patients with various types of diseases. There is a description of research results, which was conducted in hospitals throughout the Czech Republic in the practical part of this work. Correspondents replies are divided into two sections. The first section contains the responses from the hospital staff and coordinators in volunteer centers, who are performing the therapy in hospital facilities. These answers relate to insurance, legal inquiries and practical implementation of therapy. Responses in the second section of this work desribe canisterapy directly as it takes place in a different facilities. The way, how the therapy is proceeding, which methods and departments are used. The questionnaire was posted to 30 hospitals, of which the positive feedback provided 8. The answer came from 15 canistherapists of these hospitals.

CEA in breeds used for dog-assisted activities and therapies
Tipková, Zuzana ; Sedláková, Vladimíra (advisor) ; Fiala Šebková, Naděžda (referee)
Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) is an inherited disease that primarily affects herding dog breeds such as Smooth and Rough Collie, Border Collie, Shetland Sheepdog and Australian Shepherd, as well as Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. All these breeds can be used for dog-assisted activities, some individuals are also suitable for dog-assisted therapies. In the literature I found general information about the history, symptoms, diagnosis, mode of inheritance, genetic testing of the predisposed breeds. CEA was first described in the 50s of the 20th century. Manifestations of CEA vary widely and therefore it has not been known that a variety of symptoms is caused by one disease for a long time. Choroidal hypoplasia is the characteristic sign, furthermore may be present: coloboma, tortuosity of the retinal blood vessels, intraocular hemorrhage and retinal detachment leading to blindness. CEA cannot be cured. It is recommended to perform an early diagnosis, which is possible from 6 to 8 weeks of age, because the defect can be covered by later pigmentation in older pups and ocular fundus of the dog then appears normal. At first dog breeders did not pay much attention to this anomaly, because it is a small percentage of individuals who become completely blind as a consequence of that disease. Carriers of CEA have no symptoms, but their offspring may inherit a severe form of CEA. We cannot exclude affected individuals from breeding program in the breeds with high prevalence of CEA since it would reduce genetic diversity. It is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutation in the NHEJ1 gene. After the causative mutation was found, a two-step PCR assay, which uses two primer pairs to quickly detect the mutation in chromosomes, was developed. The latest molecular methods for the diagnosis of CEA include simplified analysis of the deletion without DNA isolation and rapid genotyping technique based on SYBR Green real-time PCR. Genetic tests are available in many countries now and so breeders can control the health of their dogs.

The influence of radiological assistant on elimination of errors during PA chest projection
Feltlová, Julie ; Suchánek, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Adla, Theodor (referee)
The topic of my work is "The role of a radiological assistant in the elimination of the mistakes during the postero-anterior view of the chest". I was particularly interested in this topic because it was the one I wished to get acquainted with in each and every detail, from the very beginning of the examination till its end. The X-ray is kind of a electromagnetic wave with the wave-length ranging from 10-9 to 10-11 metres. The X-ray machine consists of the X-ray emitter and the generator. The heart of the X-ray machine is an electrode pair, a cathode and a tungsten anode, that is pegged inside a glass vacuum tube. An X-ray picture is a two-dimensional picture of a plastic subject. Iťs a summarizing picture, that means it contains information about all tissues without order. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Assisted reproduction in dogs
Kopecká, Iveta ; Tůmová, Lenka (advisor) ; Šimoník, Ondřej (referee)
The dog is among the largest and longest man domesticated beast and holds in his life indispensable place. To preserve the species is a precondition for its ability to reproduce. To increase the success rate of reproduction contribute in recent decades and methods of assisted reproduction. Among the most common methods of assisted reproduction in dogs include artificial insemination. This can be done in several ways depending on the site deposit seed in genital tract of female (intravaginal, transcervical intrauterine, intratubular insemination). It can be carried out using native, chilled or frozen semen. Insemination process itself affects the success of pregnancy rates. Generally, that is the most successful design insemination with fresh semen intratubular. Another method is assisted reproduction in vitro oocyte fertilization and subsequent embryo transfer. The success of this method is dependent on many factors, among which include the sampling of gametes method of storage, the composition of culture media, mechanisms regulating nuclear oocyte maturation and others. It is evident that the need of further research, leading to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms that control oocyte maturation and embryonic development in dogs. A relatively new method of reproductive biotechnology is somatic cell nuclear transfer into an oocyte depleted own genetic information called cloning. This technology does not achieve major success so far. Methods of assisted reproduction in dogs hinders overall physiology of the reproductive system, but also more difficult method of obtaining oocytes and embryos, and then find the appropriate recipient. The key seems to be to find a more suitable solution for long term storage of gametes. Achieving successful freezing of sperm and oocyte cryopreservation would lead to greater use of reproductive technologies. Studies on assisted reproduction in dogs are among other things contributing to overall understand of reproductive mechanisms. Acquired knowledge may enable the conservation of valuable dog genotypes in vitro.
