"Is it Rational to Believe in God?". Epistemology, Metaphysics and Method in the Works of Bernard Lonergan
Nevrkla, Svatopluk ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Kranát, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate interrelatedness between various concepts of God and metaphysical assumptions from which they have been derived. This will be done with special attention paid to philosophical work of Bernard Lonergan. On Lonergan's case I will show his solution of problematic presuppositions of scholastic understanding of God. In introduction I will summarize reasons that made me to choose this topic, goals of the thesis and methods I will use. First chapter will be dedicated to brief introduction of selected proofs of God's existence and their metaphysical premises on which they rest. Enlightenment critique of metaphysics will be described and its consequences for metaphysical proofs demonstrated. Second chapter will introduce context and goals of works of modern Canadian Jesuit theologian Bernard Joseph Francis Lonergan and his concepts of judgement and selfXaffirmation. Third chapter will be concerned with description of Lonergan's metaphysics and finally with some criticism of Lonergan's approach from perspective of postXmodern, hermeneutic, and linguistic philosophies. In conclusion I will confront Lonergan's results with older philosophies mentioned. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The term od culture in work of Václav Černý

Art, avant-garde and kitsch in works of Clement Greenberg and Matei Călinescu
Taltynová, Marie ; Kulka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dadejík, Ondřej (referee)
Bachelor thesis Art, avant-garde and kitsch in works of Clement Greenberg and Matei Călinescu deals with kitsch in relation to avant-garde and to contemporary art, and to the visual arts in general. It is primarily based on the essay Avant-Garde and Kitsch by American critic Clement Greenberg and the essay Kitsch by Romanian literary scholar Matei Călinescu. The first part is devoted to outlining the concept of kitsch according to these two theorists, with an emphasis on the thinking about the origin and nature of kitsch. The second part deals with revising Greenberg's beliefs that condemn popular culture, official culture and academism for kitsch and highlights avant-garde as the only worthy manifestation of art of his time. On this basis, the work examines why avant-garde seemed like the pure opposite of kitsch in the thirties, and why to the contrary today we find that contemporary art is often influenced by kitsch.

Soares' Criticism of Arriaga's Conception of the Infinite
Mráz, Milan
The famous Spanish theologian and philosopher Rodrigo de Arriaga, who lived and worked for a long time in Prague in the 17th century, was one of the leading proponents of the conception of the possibility of topical infinity in the sphere of creation. We try to trace the literary evolution of the poetess in the thesis, we observe if there important changes appear in the poetess' manner of writing during her longstanding artistic career and, in particular, we explore the influense of the primordial elements on her poetry. At first we describe Andresen's books of poetry and we attend to the dominant themes of her creation - Nature, motifs of Ancient Greece, Christianity and the denomination of the things. In the second part of the thesis we explore the influence of the primordial elements on the poetic imagination of the poetess. We, gradually, discover the possible interpretations of the priomordial elements - water, earth, fire and air in her poetry. Our research is, to a certain extent, based on the works of the French psychologist Gaston Bachelard and the Portuguese literary critic Carlos Ceia.

Michael Novak and his Project of Theology of Democratic Capitalism
MÍČKA, Roman
This dissertation deals with the American Catholic theologian and social thinker Michael Novak, as well as his work, which is a principal and influential contribution to Catholic social teaching. Novak is the main representative of American Catholic Neoconservatism, a stream in Catholic thought, which springs from the specific context of the experience of the American political, economical and cultural arrangement and which started to develop in the USA in connection with the American conservative revolution. Catholic Neoconservatism aims to connect Christian and liberal traditions, and it also tries to rehabilitate the system of Democratic Capitalism newly based on Christian values. Its goal is to influence all areas of Catholic social thought, which, according to Novak, needs to be developed and enriched by non-Europeans, especially from the American experience. He claims that Catholic social thought is inspired too much by Socialism and the one-hundredyear-old tradition of Papal Encyclicas has been significantly marked by a limited Eurocontinental horizon. This dissertation aims to contribute, at least partly, to the Catholic historical revision of values of classical liberalism in light of this American experience. Also Novak´s usage of theological doctrines on behalf of the democratic capitalism is interesting and not forgetable experiment in the area of the theology of terrestrial realities, despite some of its exceptions. Novak is not a great theologian, but he is especially a political scientist and economist. Therefore his theology of Democratic Capitalism should be further developed and enriched by other theologians.
