Inner Peripheries of contemporary Prague in the archives documents - trends and sonds

This diploma thesis, entitled Inner Peripheries of contemporary Prague in the archives documents - trends and sonds, deals with changes originally separated urban areas located outside Prague, which went through significant transformations during last 150 years. For this thesis three studies were selected: city districts Karlín, Libeň and Vysočany. All three peripheries were originally separated areas of rural type which were located near centre of Prague. With the arrival of industry in the middle of 19th Century they turned into heavily industrial areas, in the beginning of 20th Century merged with the capital city, thus creating Great Prague. Many changes took place also with river Vltava regulations. During last 25 years the capital city is being modernized. This modernization is connected with additional changes in peripheries: old and unused factories are demolished and new buildings are built on their places or they are converted for other purposes. Because of this there are another impacts on the surrounding landscape. This issue also concerns industrial herritage: its main purpose is preservation and protection of former industrial buildings. The main goal of this thesis is description of these changes and their impact on the landscape with using maps, pictorial and written sources.
The Development Potential of the Smallest Municipalities

The present thesis deals with the influence of human resources for the development potential of selected villages situated in the area of inner periphery of the Vysocina Region. Within the scope of polarized geographical space areas with varying degrees of stability and potential for development can be identified, where endogenous development opportunities can be considered as crucial factors- in particular the level of human resources. The present thesis monitors the quality of human and social capital on the example of three villages, using the combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. The capitalization rate and utilization of human resources is evaluated mainly in terms of involvement of local partakers/participants, their levels of cooperation and participation of the population in public life. The aim is to find out how human resources in the surveyed municipalities affect their development in the future.
Region Formation and Transformations of its Roles in Course of the 20th Century: Bohemian-Moravian Highlands

"Region" is nowadays one of the most frequented term in the discourse of the humanities. In the approach of the History, the region is used as a theoretical and methodological concept, whose content has wide range in other social sciences, such as Human Geography and Sociology. This thesis deals with the possibility of the utilization of this term in the historical research applicated on the particular case of the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. Thesis describes the recent state of the research and the progress in the approach to the term of region. The main concepts which can be used in the case of the Highlands are also shown and described. This particular region was chosen because of its specificity - it's a central periphery, which formed itself into a centralized and institutionalized modern region, the Vysočina Region, during the 20th century. The basic way-out is Anssi Paasi's theory of the shaping of regions. According to it, region can be found in many dimensions in the process of its creation - not just in a physical shape, but also in a symbolic shape, in the making of its identity. Eventually, region has got variable social and economic characteristics. Formation of regional identity in the inner periphery Czech; case study Neveklov region

This diploma thesis had two basic aims. The first was an analysis of the processes shaping regional identity particularly of the study area of Neveklovsko and the identification of the inner potential in the region from the socio-economic and sociocultural aspects. The second aim was to identify the differences in the various areas of Czech region, specifically the high concentration of settlements with a predominately tourist and recreational function, where the research was conducted within the grant project. The research was carried out on using a field survey and questionnaire. The Neveklovsko area is an example of a rural area of the inner periphery containing a high concentration of settlements with the predominating tourist and recreational function. The Second World War played an important role in shaping regional identity, particularly because of forced displacements and its use as a training ground of the SS. Transport accessability related to second home tourism in peripheral regions

This diploma thesis focuses on accessibility and serviceability second homes in the inner periphery, respectively, in the model region "Hranice krajů-Středozápad" as well as analysis and assessment of the second homes with the possibility of a future transformation to permanent housing. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the characteristics of the second homes, transport accessibility and public transport not only in the Czech Republic. Analyzes commuting to recreation in various fields and further acquainted with the problems of peripheral areas. The empirical part is based on the data obtained from the analysis of public transport, statistical yearbooks and survey, which took place in the model region "Hranice krajů- Středozápad". The area is monitored to determine what kinds of vehicles are used by second homes owners for leisure travel and the transport infrastructure facilities. Also is detecting the demand for public transport and its offer for owners of second homes. In this paper, public transport is studied in the long-term viewpoint since the mid-70th the 20th century and the observation are directed to the needs of second homes users on Friday, Sunday and "recreational" link. Using quantitative and cluster analysis this work evaluates demographic trends in the surveyed municipalities, their socioeconomic structure, the availability and capacity of public services. It also includes a prediction of the future population development.
Analysis of spatial and aspatial characteristics of peripherality on the example of Rožmitálsko

The bachelor thesis deals with evaluation of peripherality of municipalities in the model area of Rožmitálsko by means of spatial and so-called "aspatial" characteristics (features). The aim of the thesis is a comparison of municipalities in the area under study by way of the standardized variable method and through identification of their development possibilities. The introductory part is devoted to theoretical definitions of basic terms related to peripheral areas and to discussion of relevant sources of literature. Attention is paid also to discussion of studies concerning research of peripheral areas in Czechia. The next part of the work is dedicated to determination of methods for the analysis; the characterisation of the model area follows. In the main empirical part of the work, the chosen methodological basis is applied on the model area of Rožmitálsko. The evaluation of peripherality of the municipalities in the model area is implemented using primary and available secondary data. The conclusion summarizes the obtained findings and formulates suggestions in terms of further development of the municipalities of the model area.
Cultural and historical potential of the peripheral areas on the example of Sedlčany region

The thesis focuses on problems of peripheral areas in the Czech Republic, especially the inner peripherals. Monitored are the possibilities of their development, through the use of the cultural heritage and their cultural and historical potential. In the practical part the thesis is focused on a specific inner peripheral territory -- Sedlčany microregion. Its cultural and historical potential is monitored more specifically. Outlined are the practical possibilities of development of Sedlčany region, especially with complex use of the potential of this peripheral region. Particularly in the field of culture and tourism.
The problems of peripheral regions in Czech Republic (region Znojemsko)

The dissertation focuses on problems of peripheral regions in Czech Republic, mainly on region Znojemsko, which is situated near border with Austria. The theoretical part treats of universal concepts of peripheral regions, defines peripheral regions in Czech Republic and tries to find their typical signs. There are also mentioned strategical documents of regional policy. The aim of these documents is balanced and sustainable development of the Czech Republic without regional disparities. Next part describes the region Znojemsko and identifies peripheral villages in this region. Contemporary situation of these villages is evaluated by socioeconomic analysis, which helps to determine opportunities for future development.
