Czech stained glass windows from 1945 to the present
Sellami Žďárská, Veronika ; Pech, Milan (advisor) ; Mergl, Jan (referee)
The thesis focuses on a previously untreated topic. It deals with Czech stained glass from 1945 to the present. Based on the exploration of stained glass on both sacral and public premises, as well as on pieces created for the presentation of Czechoslovakia at international exhibitions, it creates a comprehensive picture of the development of Czech stained glass in this period. The first part deals with the renewal of glass making and professional schools. Most attention is paid to Josef Kaplický's studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague. The thesis also documents works of glassmakers and artists in 1950s. As a breaking point for the development of stained glass, EXPO'58 is stated. In 1960s, the World Fair in Brussels widely influenced activities of Czech glassmaker who started inserting stained glass innovatively into reliefs using other experimental forms. It also shows that, in connection with new technological innovations in 1970s and 1980s, stained glass was applied in reconstructed and new buildings. The text implies that after the Velvet Revolution in 1989, a change occurred in the State's approach to the support of decorating public buildings, and in the same period, new private artistic glassmaking workshops and stained glass studios were established. There was more...

The goal of this research was to understand how exactly art-craft workshops use social media to promote themselves. The main social media sites appearing in the research are Facebook and Instagram, but also others. During the research we managed to discover other interesting findings related to the community of followers and their function, or to concepts of WOM and Direct marketing. As well as we managed to cover reactions of the owners of art-craft workshops to recent changes in Facebook's algorithms and its practical impact on them.

Belaňová, Petra ; Ondřejová, Iva (advisor) ; Dufková, Marie (referee) ; Charvát, Petr (referee)
Central Asia, crossroads of ancient trade routes known as the Silk Road, absorbed for centuries the pulses of travelling cultural influences and created an environment for the existence of original artistic expression, which can be seen in jewellery making as well. The dissertation thesis deals with analysis of the findings from excavation units and individual pieces of jewellery, in most cases made of gold, which were often largely inspired by the culture of the ancient Mediterranean. The historical - geographic perspective of the work is focused primarily on territory of ancient Bactria and Gandhara - southern part of the former Soviet republics of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, then northern and eastern Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. These areas were in the past centers of military activities and political formations, followed up in many aspects on the Mediterranean traditions. These political formations contributed distinctly to the dissemination and preservation of some elements of ancient cultural heritage in Central Asian architecture, sculpture and other fine arts and crafts. Most jewelry findings come from a fairly turbulent period of the 1st century AD, when the territory of Central Asia saw the progressive formation of Kushan Empire. The main part of the thesis consists of summary of the...

Sklenářová Teichmanová, Jana ; Prahl, Roman (advisor) ; Mergl, Jan (referee) ; Vondráček, Radim (referee)
The theme of this thesis is History of School of Applied Arts studios in Prague between 1885 and 1910. The thesis focuses mainly on style development at the crucial point of turning of the century. This period was the turning point when advanced school's art manifested and also time of generation change that transformed overall school atmosphere. A specific contribution of this thesis lies in outlining less known specialized schools, with inclusion of female element, which are factors that were not previously described elsewhere, as well as in attempt to find methodical and development analogies between Prague and Vienna School of Applied Arts. The aim of my thesis was to assess exceptional status of the school, especially in context of Czech educational system of decorative arts, and to evaluate historical context based on detailed archive research. I included in the thesis a comprehensive list of students of general and specialized schools of decorative arts, thus creating a foundation for future researchers on individual artistic personalities. Study of development of School of Applied Arts is an analytical synthesis presenting the specific role of decorative arts and crafts in pre-WWI era.
