Ethnic differences mediated to students in the 1st grade through stories

The diploma thesis deals with ethnic differences at the 1st level of primary education conveyed to students through literature for children. In the theoretical part of the work, the concept of multiculturalism and the related concepts of values, stereotypes and prejudices are defined, including descriptions of the most numerous minority populations in the Czech Republic. The thesis presents both multicultural education and intercultural education, their position in the school curriculum, the current situation in Czech schools and their development possibilities. Reading literacy, as well as its primary influencers, is an integral part of the theoretical part. Another section of the thesis describes literature for children focused on ethnic differences. The conclusion of this part presents selected reading methods, specifically the three-phase teaching model and the methods stemming from it. The aim of the practical part was to describe in what ways and the topic of ethnic differences can be conveyed to pupils in the 1st grade through literature for children; find out and describe their attitude towards the given topic and whether it has changed after the lessons learned. Beginning of a literary education lesson according to principles of the constructivist teaching

The diploma thesis deals with an issue of a teaching process initiation in a literary education. The aim of the thesis is to prove that applying a constructivist approach to the lesson structure arouses pupils' and students' interest, activity and motivation to learn and it also supports the learning process and critical thinking. The thesis verifies a positive effect in using of the E-U-R learning model based on studying scientific literature and author's pedagogical experience. More specifically, the thesis focuses on the first phase, evocation. It presents the criteria and methods of realization and it suggests the possible content of evocation. In the practical part, the author verifies these findings on six lessons. The reflections prove that effective evocation supports the learning process.
The critical thinking and its application in libraries

The thesis "Critical thinking and its application in libraries", aims to become familiar with the term "critical thinking". It informs about the program Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking and its Czech version. It represents some of the modern teaching methods, which are generated by its ideas and principles. It deals mainly with the description of activating methods, which are crucial for the program. The methods are divided into three groups according to whether they use more reading, writing and discussion. The practical part deals with the preparation of information education lessons in which methods are applied to developing critical thinking. The lessons are divided into three parts, according to a three-phase model of learning - evocation, awareness of the importance and reflection. Model lessons are adapted to the university library. As the lecture topics have been selected areas of critical thinking, information smog, invisible web, the credibility of information retrieval techniques and information security.
