Historical use of waste from the Jáchymov uranium factory as a building material
Voháňková, Michaela ; Goliáš, Viktor (advisor) ; Šálek, Ondřej (referee)
Between 1853 and 1939, colourful and highly sought-after uranium paints were produced on an industrial scale in Jáchymov. Until the discovery of radium by Marie Curie Skłodowska in 1898, the waste from production was considered essentially worthless. In the 1970s, the use of materials with increased radioactivity was detected in buildings in Jáchymov. Some of the most affected buildings were demolished. In the 1990s, remediation interventions took place during which these building materials (plaster and mortar) were removed from most of the buildings. During this period, gamma radiation doses as well as radioactivity and uranium were measured in the laboratory. The mineralogical and phase character of the material was not investigated, which was the main objective for this bachelor thesis. The presumption of preservation of at least some of the surviving houses was minimal. Nevertheless, a few unique cases have been found. A total of 11 buildings were found along a 12 km tour whose plaster showed elevated radioactivity ranging from 3.2 to 28.4 μGy/h. Sampling was carried out at 6 of them. Determination of 226 Ra mass activities was performed by laboratory gamma spectrometry, uranium contents were determined by instrumental neutron activation analysis. In the study set, the radium activities reached...
Projekt dřevostavby rodinného domu rámové konstrukce
Běťák, Adam
The bachelor work aims at a design of a family bungalow by means of a timber frame construction. The objective of the work is to prepare documentation for the building permit. The work has two parts - a drawing and a textual part. The drawing part contains drawings for the building permit including technical reports and air conditioning drawing with a relevant technical report. The project documentation includes a calculation of the house´s heat loss and a calculation of the energy performance of the building including an energy performance certificate along with 3D visualisations of the house. The textual part theoretically describes the currently used systems of supporting structures for timber houses, materials used for timber houses and ways of their use. The second part deals with the designed timber frame house itself. The individual designed structures of construction in contact with the exterior are assessed in terms of the requirements for thermal protection of buildings. Basic construction details are presented in the conclusion.
Analysis of the effects of material price changes on construction projects
Kopečková, Lucie ; Výskala, Miloslav (referee) ; Hanák, Tomáš (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the impact of material price changes on construction projects and customer-supplier relations. The theoretical part defines the terms construction company, construction contracts, creation of price offers, budgets and calculations, material costs, describes supplier-customer relations. The practical part analyzes the impact of material price developments on construction projects. In order to answer specific research questions, qualitative and quantitative analyzes were prepared, for which we used our own data, obtained by means of a questionnaire survey, which was subsequently refined through interviews with representatives of construction companies. Furthermore, publicly available data from the ČSÚ and ÚRS were used in the analysis. The practical part discusses the effect of material price changes on construction projects, analyzes their scope and impacts.
Cost estimating of water supply and sewerage

The bachelor thesis deals with the budgeting of water main and gravity sewer system. The theoretical part provides basic information related to the price. Historical development of pricing in construction, basic concepts and regulations. In next part there are described costs in budgeting, types of budgets and basic characteristics of water management structures. The practical part deals with the revaluation of budgets and the creation of an analysis of the development of prices of building materials and works of water management structures.
Radioactivity of building materials
Kocíková, Pavla ; Goliáš, Viktor (advisor) ; Třískala, Zdeněk (referee)
The work examines the issue of radioactivity of construction materials. The introduction deals with the approach to radioactivity from the general and legislative points of view and its origin and division. It briefly mentions units of activity. It further deals with the issue of radioactivity in construction materials as such, the issue of emerging radon and emanation of construction materials. The second part of the work focuses on extreme cases of use of unsuitable construction raw materials in the building industry in the history of the Czech Republic, specifically houses in Jáchymov, aerated concrete produced in Poříčí near Trutnov and prefabricated houses START. The closing part deals with the system of evaluation of natural radionuclide content in construction materials under the applicable legislation and it briefly describes the procedure of manufacturers and importers of construction materials in case of exceeding limit values.
Specifics of building design from recycled building materials
Dobrovolný, Petr ; Pifko, Henrich (referee) ; Innemanová,, Petra (referee) ; Žabičková, Ivana (advisor)
Nowadays, the developed societies increasingly adhere to the ideas of sustainability, which also include the issues of raw material intensity and waste management. EU countries declare their intention to move towards so-called circular economy, where production, consumption, waste management and the market of secondary raw materials function in predominantly closed cycles. Due to its high share of raw material consumption and the amount of waste generated, the construction industry is one of the priority sectors in which these changes should take place. Consequently, the interest in recycling of construction and demolition waste will probably grow. This thesis examines the chosen topic from the architect's point of view. The issue of recycling of building materials is dealt with in the context of contemporary construction industry. The introductory part describes main material flows: the most used building materials, the method of waste management and the possibilities of its further use. The relationships between the design of the building and the production of construction waste are defined. The issue of building with recycled building materials is handled in more detail. In the main part, the design of a model object made of recycled building materials is elaborated. The individual building structures are analyzed in terms of the suitability of the use of recycled building materials and waste management after the end of a lifecycle of the building and a comparison is made with alternative structures made of conventional building materials. At the end of the work, an evaluation of the usability of recycled building materials in building structures and their economic potential is performed. There is also an evaluation of the specifics of working with recycled building materials in the design of the building.
Ecological influences during the construction of a family house
Bortlová, Nicol ; Vaňková, Lucie (referee) ; Kocourková, Gabriela (advisor)
The diploma thesis focuses on the ecological influences in the construction of a family house. The subject is to compare the properties of alternative building materials, determine the cost of building a house and design the optimal way of financing housing for a fictional married couple. Explains basic concepts, namely ecological aspects in construction, project management of buildings, pricing in construction, housing finance. The following practical part compares building materials in terms of their properties and environmental impacts during production, determines the costs of acquisition and operation of a family house and then finds out whether it is possible to finance the construction of the house through a mortgage loan. At the end of the work evaluates what percentage will increase the cost of building a house in the case of the use of materials, the production of which produces less negative emissions. Finally, the optimal variant of housing financing is recommended.
Moisture Measurements
Hřib, Jan ; Pikula, Stanislav (referee) ; Beneš, Petr (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with measuring moisture in building materials and it is focused on the capacitive and microwave method. The goal was to find out whether it is possible to employ these two methods to determine moisture distribution in the volume of a measured material. This thesis contains theoretical introduction to the moisture measurement. Practical experiments were made with both capacitive and microwave method. Capacitive method was supplemented with a simulation. Based on the results, I conclude that the capacitive method is not suitable to determine moisture distribution in the volume of a material. The same conclusion was reached in the case of the microwave method, although this conclusion was based more on the theory than on the measurements.
