Evaluation of postural stability among deaf adults

vi Abstract Title: Evaluation of postural stability among deaf adults Objectives: The purpose of this diploma thesis was to compare the postural stability between the deaf and the normal hearing adults, and to find out if the statistically significant difference in measured parameters does exist. Methods: 102 subjects at the age of 20-45 years participated in this study. The experimental group consisted of 35 deaf adult subjects with congenital or early childhood deafness. The control group has been made by 67 normal hearing adult subjects. The postural stability was objectively evaluated by Footscan, the pressure measuring plate. Nine tests were passed, duration of each test was 30 seconds. The total travelled way (TTW) expressing the total path the centre of acting pressure travelled during the test and the Romberg ratio, which is the ratio of TTW values under the condition of closed and open eyes, were selected as indicators of postural stability. T-test was used to assess the statistical significance of the differences between the group of deaf adults and normal hearing group. Title Ways to influence amateur s athletes postural stability Objectives The aim of this study is to describe the selected parameters of body composition and postural stability of the amateur s athletes (floorball players) group and to assess the efficiency of short-term intervention exercise based on senzomotor stimulation, acral coactivation therapy and plyometrics. Methods This work is a descriptive work, one part of it is the intervention. Two groups of amateur s athletes (floorball players) were examined during the study - intervention group(n = 16, average height = 178,23 cm (std 7,18), average weight = 80,04 (std 11,53), average age = 25,15 years (std3,31 )) and control group(n = 8, ave- rage height = 181,48 cm (std 5,59), average weight = 82,29 kg (std 11,20), average age = 27,07 let (2,68)). Each participant underwent the entrance measurement both on Footscan to evaluate the level of postural stability by selected parameters and on InBody 3.0 a Tanita to evaluate the level of body composition by selected parame- ters. Title: Postural stabilization and balance - theoretical background and definitions (literature review) Objectives: The aim of this theses is to investigate the present situation of theoretical background of postural stabilization and balance and find out the differences between both of these phenomenons. The theses should summarize the current literature including the newest studies. Furthermore, it discusses the most used computerized measurements methods for assessing balance and postural control. Methods: The theses has character of literature review. It is divided into several parts. The beginning introduces the theoretical background. The descriptive and analytical chapter discuss the most used computerized measurement methods for assessing balance and postural control. The discussion summarizes the current situation and results of the theses. Results: The total amount of the 104 studies was found, but only 12 of them met the criteria of the theses. Currently the most used methods for assessing balance and postural control are the computerized dynamic posturography and the visual feedback posturography. Objective: The aim of the thesis is to compare the effect of disease-modifying drugs and biological therapy on quality of life using the disability index, which is achieved by evaluating the HAQ, grip strength the small muscles of the hand, which is tested a hand dynamometer and standing stability, which is detected by measuring on stabilometric platform. Methods: This is a pilot study using subjective and objective examination. Stabilometric and dynamometric examination and the Czech version of the Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire validated by Rheumatology Institute in Prague 2010 were used to the analysis. Evaluation of the collected data was done using two-way analysis of variance with repetition. Results: Biological therapy and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs have significant impact on quality of life, the strength of the small muscles of the hand and standing stability in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Impact of stimulation of power abilities on balance

3 ABSTRACT Title of thesis: Impact of stimulation of power abilities on balance Aim of thesis: Verification of effectiveness of power workouts for stable and unstable supporting surfaces and the impact thereof on balance. Methods: An experimental method was used, with two groups of probands completing a three-month power training programme. The programme included power workouts with balance equipment for the first group and similar power workouts on a stable mat for the second group. The whole power training programme was elaborated in the degree thesis by Štohanzl (2010). All probands underwent an entrance, check-up and final testing with our monitoring of the impact of power training on balance development. Results: Our results did not confirm direct connection with more effective development while using unstable surfaces. Title: The assesment of selected strength and stability parameters of an ankle plantar and dorsal flexion in slackliners. Objectives: To assess the relation between level of stability the dorsiflexion and the plantar flexion strength in slackliners. Methods: The research sample was composed of two groups - slackliners (9 person) and balanced control group (9 person) selected from physically active population. Probands were tested on the Flamingo test on the pressure plate, the test of the dorsiflexion and plantar flexion strenght on an isokinetic dynamometer. Slackliners underwent extra range of motions elements on the slackline. The level of stability was assessed by using the centre of pressure and the physical design of individual elements on the slackline. Power was assessed by using the peak torque at 30 ř and 120 ř. Results: Slackliners achieve bigger relative strength in the plantar angular velocity of rotation of 30 ř in both limbs than the control group (left: 1.51 ± 0.31 vs. 1.20 ± 0.30 Nm.kg-1 , p <0.05 , η2 = 0.21, right: 1.55 ± 0.34 vs. 1.21 ± 0.34 Nm.kg-1 , p <0.05, η2 = 0.22). Thesis title: The effect of kinesthetic sensation on the postural control and balance abilities of individuals with visual impairments Objectives: Compose through the literature study appropriete balance programe for the individuals with visual impairments and measure its effect on their postural control and balance abilities. Methods: Ten visually impaired subjects, one subject with visual and vestibular impairment and one healthy subject took part in this study. Movement intervention was held once a week for eleven weeks, consisting of balance and coordination training, exercises for decreasing muscle imbalances and increasing body awareness and relaxation ability. The Footscan system was used for measuring the effect of movement intervention on the on the postural control and balance abilities of individuals with visual impairments. The testing was done before the beginning and after the finishing of all classes of movement intervention and the results of the pretest and posttest were compared with each other. Assessing the influence of constitutional hypermobility on postural stability

The thesis "Judging the influence of constitutional hypermobility on postural stability" focuses on the problem of constitutional hypermobility (CH) and the influence of joint instability on stability mechanisms. The aim of the research was to find out whether there is a difference in stability mechanisms with tested subjects with CH and without it. Furthermore, the research focuses on the influence of mobility techniques on postural stability by the means of chosen tests carried out on Balance Master® System platform. The tested sample includes 14 women aged from 20 to 28, 7 women with constitutional hypermobility and 7 women as a control group. 6 tests were chosen for the measurement on Balance Master® platform. 2 static tests: modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction on Balance (mCTSIB), Unilateral Stance (US), and 4 dynamic tests: Limits of Stability (LOS), Rhytmic weight shift (RWS), Step Up Over (SUO) a Forward Lunge (FL). We compared the medians of output values of individual tests. It was assumed that subjects with KH would have significantly worse test results than the control group. Furthermore, it was supposed that the mobilization processes cause stability disturbance on the basis of cancellation of compensational , thus protective block in comparison with KS. Analysis of stabilometric signals in frequency domain

This work deals with the metods frequency and time frequency analysis of stabilometric signal. In the introroduction is described theory about posturography and posturographic measurment. The work contains describtion of stabilometric parametrs in time domain (1D and 2D parametrs) and in frequency domain. The aim is create review of basic metods used to processing and preprocessing of stabilometric signals and comparing this methods . In work is realized ferquency analysis used Frourier transfrmation and Burg method and time-frequency analysis used Short time Frourier transformation and Wavelet transformation. One part of program is aimed on comparison of this methods.
