Determination of selected perfluoroalkyl compounds in complex matrices
Ondreášová, Klára ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Mgr. Petra Kosubová, Ph.D (advisor)
Diploma work focuses on the determination of selected representatives of perfluoroalkyl substances in complex matrices, particularly, in sewage sludge and feed. In case of sewage sludge, samples were extracted into methanol and three extractions techniques were compared: accelerated Soxhlet, pressurized liquid extraction and Powley method. Powley method showed sufficient efficiency, the lowest matrix effect and minimal background. Perfluorooctane sulfonate was present in all tested samples of sewage sludge (0.74–38.02 ng.g-1). Other detected compounds were perfluorodecanoic acid and perfluorooctanoic acid. Three extraction techniques were tested on feed samples (QuEChERS, fast methanol extraction and Powley method into acetonitrile). Powley method provided the cleanest extracts and showed simultaneously the highest recovery of native perfluoroalkyl substances and the lowest matrix effects. Perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorooctanoic acid were rarely present in samples of complete and supplemental feeds, while other perfluoroalkyl substances were found at levels below limit of quantification or they were not detected at all. Perfluorooctane sulfonate (0.100–2.768 ng.g-1), perfluoroundecanoic acid and perfluorotridecanoic acid were determined in all fish meal samples.
Sewage sludge and sediments evaluation via ecotoxicity tests
Ondrová, Jana ; Vávrová, Milada (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
Sediments and sewage sludges are part of the environment. Sewage sludges are formed in wastewater treatment plants as solid residues after water purification, therefore they have antropogenic origine. Although the sediment are formed by natural processes, humans also contribute to their formation. Sediments and sewage sludges can be a reservoir of a number of contaminants, due to their properties. Utilisation of sediments and sewage sludges as material for recultivation or a natural fertilizer is currently supported. But after application to the land, contaminants can be released to the environment. The consideration of ecotoxicological effects of sediments and sewage sludges is very important. Sediments and sewage sludges were ecotoxicologicaly evaluated by bioassays with water leacheate and by whole sediment bioassays. Daphnia magna, Thamnocephalus platyurus, Sinapis alba and Lemna minor were used to perform tests with water leacheate. Heterocypris incongruens, Lactuca sativa and Eisenia fetida were used to perform whole sediment tests.
Assessment of drugs in settlings with waste water treatment
Hájek, Radek ; Mravcová, Ludmila (referee) ; Vávrová, Milada (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on asessment of pharmaceuticals in wastewater treatment plant sludge. Two macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin and clarithromycin) and three non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, naproxen and diclofenac) were assessed. Sample of sludge was taken in municipal wastewater treatment plant in Brno-Modřice. Analytes were obtained using pressurized solvent extraction (PSE) or ultrasonic solvent extraction (USE). Clean-up was performed by solid phase extraction (SPE). Ultra high performance liquid chromatography followed by UV-VIS diode array detection was used for quantitative determination of the analytes.
Energetical utilization of waste, especially sewage sludge
Havlásek, Martin ; Kuba, Pavel (referee) ; Frýba, Lukáš (advisor)
This bachelor´s work discusses about energetical utilization of sewage sludge. The process is described from sludge treatment to flue gas cleaning. The main emphasis is on incineration, which are governed by legislation. First are listed sludge treatment and utilization technology which included thermal processing in which is thoroughly described the process of incineration. The following are methods for co-incineration of sludge and devices for direct incineration. Work is finished by chapter about flue gas cleaning.
Co-incineration sewage sludge in the existing plant
Krejčí, Tomáš ; Ferdan, Tomáš (referee) ; Frýba, Lukáš (advisor)
This thesis focuses on problems with co-incineration of sewage sludge in existing plants. The introduction of my thesis deals with a brief summary of a sludge management, sludge treatment methods and subsequent utilizations methods used for sledge disposal. Next chapter contains a calculation of calorific value, depending on the water content and volatile substances in dry solids of the sludge, it offers an overview of devices applicable for thermal processing of sludge and a description of the co-incineration in existing plants. The seventh chapter is devoted to the legislative parameters which influence the ways of dealing with sewage sludge. After the thermal treatment of sludge it is necessary to decontaminate flue gases of harmful substances resulting from incineration process, thus following there is a description of the most important devices used for its elimination or its reduction. My work ends with a search of methods dealing with the thermal sludge utilization in foreign countries.
Energy utilization of sewage sludge
Poláková, Annamária ; Ferdan, Tomáš (referee) ; Frýba, Lukáš (advisor)
This bachelor’s work discusses the origin and composition of the sludge. The composition of sludge is given by legislation, as well as its treatment and processing. Sludge shall be adjusted in order to be used on agricultural land, landfilled, incinerated, etc. The sludge processes are described further in this work. Sludge disposal options are varied, but not everywhere equally represented. This is represented in chapter where treatment of sludge in Czech Republic and abroad are compared, illustrated in chats. The most extensive and most common method of disposal of sludge is application on the ground and burning. Usable energy is obtained by burning the sludge.
Sludge pretreatment and its further utilization
Němec, Jan ; Dlabaja, Tomáš (referee) ; Elsässer, Thomas (advisor)
The thesis deals with methods of pre-treatment (disintegration) of sewage sludge, which offers an opportunity for better operation of a waste water treatment plant. The introduction is aimed at sewage water and sludge dividing, and then at their characteristics. In this thesis a current state of sludge disposal within the reference to the legislature and how to divide the methods of disintegration is also marked. Afterwards a description of selected methods of sludge disintegration, their comparison and the applicability of thermal disintegration to pasteurization of sewage sludge is included.
Industrial sludges as alternative fuel in cement plant
Raška, Miroslav ; Kalina, Lukáš (referee) ; Opravil, Tomáš (advisor)
This thesis deals with the use of industrial sludge as an additive to alternative fuels in the cement industry. The first part is focused on solid alternative fuels, especially sewagesludge, processed and used in the firing process of Portland clinker and heatingpotential of the secondary raw materials, fuels. The second part deals with the history, production of cement and its raw material base. The last part contains information of practical measurements and draw conclusions about the appropriateness of using that type of industrial sludge in cement as a solid alternative fuel.
Natural dewatering of sewage sludge of small producers
Mrvová, Michaela ; Hynánková,, Eva (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
The thesis is focused on measurements possibility associated with sludge dewatering, realized on technological wetlands. Focus of this thesis is the evaluation of evapotranspiration in wetland macrophytes, respectively - comparison of three measurements - in the sludge drying bed to the greenhouse facility, sludge drying bed without the greenhouse building and measuring the meteorological station at 2.0 meters above the ground. One of the goals is an automated system monitoring and regulating moisture conditions in sludge dewatering. The aim of the evaluation is completed dewatering equipment from an economic point of view.
