The bachelor thesis deals with increasing and transfering texture details of abstract paintings into sculptural monochrome reliefs. My collection of 3D detail scans of abstract paintings from world-famous museums served as the basis for my work. The result is four sculptural reliefs created by robotic machining into polyurethane blocks based on the 3D scans.

DIY technologies in digital sculpture

This dissertation thesis is focused on the search for the presence of DIY (Do It Yourself) technologies in the practice of digital sculpting, from the beginnings of this progressive way of creation to the present. The work, through three thematic areas, answers the main research questions: What kind of technology is or has the DIY phenomenon been represented in digital sculpture? How have these technologies influenced and are influencing the development and direction of digital sculpture? Within the first thematic area, the presence of the DIY phenomenon in the beginnings of digital creation of a spatial work of art is mapped until the moment of constituting the concept of Digital Sculpture, as a designation of this new way of creation. The second area deals with specific technologies of digital sculpture, in terms of technical tools and their DIY alternatives. The development of these alternative technologies and their influence on the gradual democratization of digital sculpture tools is investigated. The third area examines the creative methods of DIY, which have been integrated into the practice of digital sculpture.

Five in one: The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava reopens the House of Art
Galerie výtvarného umění v Ostravě
Galerie výtvarného umění v Ostravě (GVUO) od května rekonstruovala střechu Domu umění. Památkově chráněná budova se znovuotevře vernisáží pěti výstav v úterý 15. října v 17 hodin. K vidění bude umění od 16. století až do současnosti. Představena bude tvorba Rudolfa Sikory s výrazným ekologickým poselstvím, ale také dílo Otto Gutfreunda, zakladatele kubistického sochařství. Obě výstavy budou v ostravském Domě umění k vidění do 12. ledna. Zároveň budou zpřístupněny i komornější projekty Kříž, nová stálá expozice Dům umění v Ostravě a Výstava jednoho díla ze sbírek GVUO.

Otto Gutfreund: Breaking Point

Bod zlomu je pomyslná hranice mezi dvěma tvůrčími fázemi jednoho z nejtalentovanějších hybatelů české moderny sochaře Otto Gutfreunda. Autor se ve svém předválečném období zabýval aplikací metod malířského kubismu do sochy, což byl z podstaty nelehký úkol. Při jeho promýšlení se nechal inspirovat plošnými tendencemi v dějinách sochařství, jako byly například pozdní Donatellovy sochy, a především formou reliéfu, který je bytostně založen na postupech, kdy se hmota, kompozice i děj vepisují do plochy na základě úsporných objemových vztahů. Gutfreund šel ještě dál a principy reliéfní determinace do objemu sochy paradoxně převedl, respektive vytvořil iluzi objemu, a to na základě paradigmatu, že „objem je výsledek pohybu plochy“. Tyto analytické postupy konstrukce nové kubistické sochy jsou kontrastním protipólem Gutfreundova poválečného civilismu. Bodem zlomu se pro něj stala otřesná zkušenost první světové války, která založila cestu k jeho vnitřní transformaci směrem k civilismu. Gutfreund cítil nové úkoly a chtěl být angažován v budování republiky. Toužil po sdělnosti, poetické a civilní výpovědi, ovšem nikoliv v duchu banální popisnosti. Sochařův povalečný civilismus je tak radikálním odklonem od předchozí kubistické fáze. Jeho charakteristickými rysy jsou kompaktní objem, kultivovaná uhlazenost, věcnost a civilní výraz bez vyhrocené emocionality. Záměrem výstavy je obě tyto Gutfreundovy osobité polohy konfrontovat.

Sculptors in the service of piarist order in Moravia and Silesia

After the arrival of Piarists to Mikulov in 1631, the order began to spread itself all over Czech lands. When colonizing different places the Piarists usually called upon local sculptors, who then fulfilled various iconographical programs in their churches. This theses will cover Piaristic college churches in Moravia and Silesia in a period from settling down of the order to its peak phase in the half of the 18th century. Attention will be mostly paid to individual sculptors, themes and iconographical programs appearing in these churches to determine the common signs of sculptural decorations of Piaristic churches.

The Influence of the Ancient art on Renaissance Sculptors in the 2nd half of 15th - 1st half of 16th Century

The Bachelor thesis called The influence of the ancient art on Renaissance sculptors in the 2nd half of 15th - 1st half of 16th century focuses on the comparison of ancient works with renaissance works in that period. It aims to compare possible themes and ideas of ancient figures that sculptors at that time could use as patterns for their work. Central attention will be given to these sculptors: Donatello, Tullio Lombardo, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Pierino da Vinci and Benvenuto Cellini. In my work, we also look at mythological scenes from a viewpoint of confrontation with the statue. The next aim is the introduction into historical and political context, that had a significant impact on the evolution of the art scene.
