Reforms of the writing alphabet for the youngest. Is it Time for a Change?

The theme of the diploma dissertation became a view of a field of alphabets (letters and types) in contexts of communication, history, art and education. The theoretical part is focused on historical, contemporary movements of the phenomenon all at once. Inclusive of reflecting on alphabets in art and also links to a medial communication. The second part of the diploma dissertation reacts to the strongest and the most inspiring moments. It focuses on a practical applications for art lessons. The third part [artistic] takes advantage of media knowledges and art lessons. They are interfaced into an interactive teaching material which challenges students to an active perception of visual culture.
Exploring readability - a comparison of methods of text difficulty measuring

This bachelor thesis consists of two main parts. Following a short historical overview in the field, the most used readability formulæ for Czech and English languages are presented in the first part, with peeks to couple of solutions in other languages as well. Each readability measure is presented with an equation and instructions for its use. In the more practical second part, the work focuses at using or not using the formulæ on everyday basis, presents problems related to them and discusses their reliability supported by author's own measurements. On the character of books for beginner readers with regard to text difficulty and readability

The thesis deals with the book genre Erstlesebuch (book for beginner readers) and has in view its contemporary character with regard to readability for beginner readers. The theoretical part presents its interdisciplinary and the specifics of this book genre itself. In reference to the interdisciplinarity there are findings of following disciplines to allow: literary science, more precisely children's literature research, readability research, didactic reading and psychology of reading. The theoretical part also reveals some characteristics of Erstlesebuch in contrast with a common book for children and with belles- lettres at all. The theoretical-analytic part focuses on the complex analysis of six chosen contemporary Erstlesebuchs and is composed by three parts: a literary theoretical commentary, an analysis readability, and a comment on the composition of these books. The final part of the thesis concludes with empirical research. This research tested the influence of some criteria of readability by the children in second and third classes of a primary school in Austria. Viability of Using Erstlesebuch in Classes Teaching German as a Foreign Language

The diploma thesis deals with the book genre Erstlesebuch (book for beginner readers) as educational material in the context of foreign language education at the levels of Basic Users (A0/1-A2). In the context of first language teaching, this specific genre belongs to the field of literature, the didactic of literature, and the didactic of reading. The goal of this diploma thesis is to present different possibilities of didactic activities with Erstlesebuch in the context of second language teaching and to formulate criteria for choosing an appropriate text. The theoretical part describes the context of foreign language education and the role of literature in this context, with consideration for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The theoretical part also presents the specifics of the book genre Erstlesebuch itself. The empirical part of this thesis is based on several investigations: firstly on a complex analysis (readability and text structure) of six Erstlesebuch and secondly on empirical research in reading with schoolchildren at higher grades of an elementary school (children at the age of 13-15). These results are compared to the results of similar research done with Austrian beginner readers (children between the ages of 7 and 9). The final part of the thesis concludes...
Text simplification in Czech

This thesis deals with text simplification in Czech, in particular with lexical simplification. Several strategies of complex word identification, substitution generation and substitution ranking are implemented and evaluated. Substitution generation is attempted both in a dictionary-based manner and in an embedding- based manner. Some experiments involving people are also presented, the experiments aim at gaining an in- sight into perceived simplicity/complexity and its factors. The experiments conducted and evaluated include sentence pair comparison and manual text simplification. Both the evaluation results of various strategies and the outcomes of experiments involving humans are described and some future work is suggested. 1

An Analysis of Mission Statements of Leading Companies Operating in Czech Republic

The master's thesis focuses on detailed mission statements analysis of leading companies operating in Czech republic. The aim of the thesis is to provide the comprehensive view on the current situation in field of mission statements and to examine the relationship between mission statement and firm performance. Theoretical part introduces the topic, basic charasteristics of mission statements and describes research methods used in practical part. In second part is performed content analysis, textual analysis, analysis of mission statements availability, readability, origin of its owner. Also the link between the corporate ethos and mission statements is defined in practical part. Through the statistical analysis of dependence is examined the relationship between mission statements and chosen financial indicators at the end of the thesis.
