Teachers versus totalitarianism: Pedagogical faculties and their activities during the breakthrough year 1989

The thesis deals with the involvement of five pedagogical faculties in the Czech Republic in the Velvet Revolution in 1989. These are the Faculty of Education of Charles University, the Faculty of Education in České Budějovice, the Faculty of Education in Hradec Králové, the Faculty of Education in Pilsen and the Faculty of Education in Ústí nad Labem. The focus is mainly on the activities of students after the events at Národní třída on 17 November 1989, such as the announcement of a student strike, the establishment of strike committees and the beginnings of student self-government. However, attention is also paid to the atmosphere at the faculties during the 1980s and the activities in which students were involved during this period. One of the chapters is also devoted to students as important actors in our history. The historical development of higher teacher education in Czechoslovakia is not omitted. Other chapters are logically divided according to the individual faculties of education and include the historical development of the faculty, the atmosphere in the 1980s, the course of the student strike and the further direction of the faculty after the Velvet Revolution. The life of secret agent Vojtěch Kučera: microhistorical study

This thesis intends to introduce the life story of Vojtěch Kučera, "agent-walker", who undertook at least twenty-six illegal border crossing across Czechoslovakia border during the years 1946 - 1954. During his last illegal border crossing he was catched, accused of espionage and then sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in the year 1955. The first part of the thesis is based on three variations of Kučera's life story. These three stories are constructed (and later deconstructed ) by using informations from family memories, Kučera's statement as well as from the film Agent K vypovídá. The second part of the thesis is based on several microhistorical probes. By using microhistorical analysis we aim to understand Kučera's thinking, behaving and motivations.

Status and Activities of the Official and the Underground Church in Czechoslovakia in the 1968-1989 Period

(in English): The goal of this thesis is to examine post-war development of undercover and official church in Czechoslovakia, specifically between years 198-1989. This thesis is focused mainly on activity and status of Roman Catholic Church and its relation to the state governed by communism. Thesis deals mostly with unofficial ecclesiastical activities and underground groups, in particular with Koinótés community led by key figure of secret church, Felix M. Davídek. The main source is a set of interrogation protocols made by State Security police dealing with the secret ecclesiastical acitivites of the community formed around Bishop Fridolin Zahradnik.

Rakša: The Scout Movement and Questions of Freedomfighting

Bachelor thesis Rakša:The Scout Movement and the Questions of Freedom-fighting reflects the preparation, process and results of a education-dramatic project of the same name. It was realized with two Scout groups consisting of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts aged twelve to fifteen. Most of the participants had little or no previous experience with drama. The groups differed in the strength of friendships bonds among their members. One of the groups has operated as a Scout troop for an extended period of time, the other came into existence solely for the purpose of the project.
As a theme of the project, I chose the life story of Dagmar Skálová, a lifelong Scout and a political prisoner of the Communist regime, who was later awarded the T. G. Masaryk medal for her achievements. I attempted to adapt this theme through the medium of structured drama.
The goal of this thesis is to use the story to emphasize freedom-fighting, improve the capability of evaluating one's actions from different viewpoints and broaden the scale of identification with certain Scouting ideals.
The thesis also attempts to identify the reasons, why certain parts of the project did not work as originally planned.
