Jung, Hansol ; Conway, Maura (advisor) ; Prina, Federica (referee) ; Špelda, Petr (referee)
This study examines how radicalisation in Indonesia is treated in the Australian press. Radicalisation is widely defined as a dramatic shift in the belief system of an individual or a group, denial of democratic means, and justifying the use of violence to achieve the political aims in this paper. Although there are various types and drivers of radicalisation, the researcher limited this research to identifying the framing of six pathways of Islamic radicalisation in Indonesia identified by Hwang and Schulze and Idris. For this purpose, 301 articles from selected Australian broadsheets and tabloids, dating up to 8 May 2020, were collected. Using quantitative and qualitative content analysis to generate the frequency of terms and metaphors used to describe radicalisation pathways in Indonesia, the study finds that the securitising and stigmatising frames are mainly employed in the Australian press in portrayal of radicalisation in Indonesia. In addition, the study explores the different style of coverage employed in Australian broadsheets and tabloids. Iron hand in a velvet glove
Briestenská, Monika ; Hýlová, Adéla (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
Annotation What is a prison? What is its meaning or role? What does prison mean in the context of architecture? How did prisons develop and how did these changes relate to the development of society? And should prisons not exist at all? Prison is a very controversial topic, but it still affects the lives of many people. Former convicts face prejudice and social barriers and often relapse, which we should try to prevent. The work discusses the relationship of architecture to the correction and reintegration of convicts. The architecture of the prison should respond to the tendencies that have proved effective, follow them and together with them form the most effective correctional facility. It can be seen that the course of prison designing is moving towards a more open, smaller and more friendly space. Correctional programs in open prisons work with convicts on the basis of contact with the outside world, reintegration, through work, retraining and educational programs, where architecture has a significant impact, as it maximizes the chances of convicts to be rehabilitated and is inscribed into their lives. During the work on this project, a proposal for an open prison in Olomouc was created, which considers the stages of the correction of convicts and reflects the routine of everyday life outside prison. It uses movement to break the monotony of prisoners' recurring days.
