The possibilities of developing specific competencies in the sphere of spatial orientation and indivudual movement of pupils with visual impairment in primary school education
BAČÁKOVÁ, Helena
This bachalero´s thesis is called The possibilities of developing specific competencies in the sphere of spatial orientation and individual movement of pupils with visual impairment in primary school education reports differences of special needs (regulation §16 sect. 9) vs. nonspecial needs schools for spatial orientation and independent movement of visually impaired pupils. The goal of this work is to confirm or deny that special needs schools create better outcomes for developing the competencies mentioned above. Also, we verify if special needs schools offer more hours of SOIM classes per week than the regular schools. To achieve these goals, visual impairment studies of spatial orientation and individual movement of visually impaired pupils was referenced. We also referenced studies focused on inclusive and special needs education and legal educational regulations. Another step taken to obtain the results was a quantity and quality combined research. The tools used to collect data in the research were the structured interviews and questionnaires. In the final part of this work, researched data is analysed. The analysis shows that hours of SOIM classes per week are the same in both school types (special needs and non-special needs). We found that better conditions for the outcome of SOIM classes are provided by special needs schools but at the same time children are socially segregated. Spatial orientation and individual movement are very demanding to manage. Another factor making this problem difficult is a lack of public awareness.
