Political context of nominations of justices of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic

The political context of the selection of the judges of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic Abstract The thesis deals with the political context of the selection of judges of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic. The research question is whether the Senate's rejection of the President's nominees is more a manifestation of political power or a corrective to the high moral and professional quality of the Constitutional Court judges. Along with this, the thesis examines whether it would be appropriate to change the current legal regulation of the selection of constitutional judges. The first part of the thesis initially summarises the previous academic reflections on the topic, which mostly pointed out the inappropriateness of the possibility of reappointing constitutional judges, together with the linking of their terms of office to the president's, and the somewhat haphazard approach of senators to the assessment of candidates. Furthermore, this part of the thesis contains a definition of the research question consisting in a narrow conception of politics in the sense of policy. Theme of directly elected President was present on Czechoslovak and Czech political field regularly since 1989. Different proposals rose discussion in media and between the specialists from Political science. Diploma thesis captures the changes of specialized, political and media discussion during the years. The opinion of the Public is present in Public opinion polls. Diploma thesis also describes the circumstances of adoption of the Amendment to the Constitution and of the Implementing Law. Part of the Diploma thesis is also theoretical introduction concerning the regimes from the point of view of their polity and also a chapter about the institution of the president concerning his constitutional formal and informal powers since 1918 till these days.

The presented bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of the Czech Catholic media. The printed periodical Katolický týdeník occupies a completely privileged position among them. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to map how Katolický týdeník approached the topic of two direct presidential elections in the Czech Republic. These events can be considered not only as socially significant and highly monitored in the media, but their result is also relevant for the position of the Catholic Church in the Czech society due to the competencies and especially the symbolism of the presidency. The theoretical introduction outlines the position of the Catholic media in the period of presidential elections in the Czech Republic based on the reflection of the situation of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic and its relationship to the media and the state. Other chapters present the most important Czech Catholic media, introduce Katolický týdeník as a key periodical for the analytical part and provide a brief overview of the course of the two direct presidential elections in the Czech Republic. Conflict over competences after introduction of direct election of the president in the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis is concerned with question of competence in the Czech republic between president and others state constitutional authorities after the introduction of direct presidential election and after electing Miloš Zeman as president. The thesis examines the parts of the Constitution where there is the possibility of occurrence of question of competence or where there are different interpretations. The main aim is to describe and analyze question of competence between Miloš Zeman and others constitutional authorities. Based on these disputes, this bachelor thesis offers modifications of the Constitution of the Czech Republic which could prevent similar disputes. The result of bachelor thesis is appreciation whether introduction of direct elections had an impact on the incidence of question of competence or it is associated with Miloš Zeman.

Diploma thesis seeks to analyze the introduction of the direct election of the President of the Czech Republic as a potential impulse towards semipresidentialism. For this purpose, the work defined theoretical concepts parliamentary, presidential and semi-presidential forms of government. In addition to the anticipated research direct election, as an factor of strengthening the president's legitimacy among others, the work will include analysis of the effects of Miloš Zeman first year in office and its relation to other constitutional institutions. These assessments are important for overal outputs of this work because they can be a pointer to the objectives of the work. The work will also be mentioned tradition of Czech (Czechoslovak) presidency.
