Valency syntax in teaching practice
JAHODOVÁ, Aneta
The aim of the bachelor´s thesis is to present the basic principles of valence syntax in academic manuals and to map the extent to which these approaches are reflected in Czech language textbooks for the lower-secondary school level. The aim of this thesis is also to compare not only the content of this curriculum, but especially the methodological suitability and imaginativeness of approaches of various textbook series, possibly also design own approaches to teaching this issue at the lower-secondary school level.
Attributive and Predicative Functions of Czech Adjectives
Manukjanová, Hana ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Synková, Pavlína (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the distinction of attributive and predicative adjectives in contemporary Czech. Although this distinction is very important for defining adjectives as a word class in many languages, there was only little attention paid to it in Czech so far. This thesis is based on the work of František Čermák Lexikon a sémantika (2010). It is strongly inspired by english tradition of linguistics, which is also a reason, why he introduces a new term predicative adjectives in Czech. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part contains theoretical description of predicative and attributive function of adjectives. It is based on information contained in czech and foreign grammarbooks, handbooks or research papers. The goal is to summarize these separate information. The theoretical part deals with the basic characteristic of both types of adjectives, it focuses also on description of their semantics, word form and valency, which depends on it. This part contains definitions of some questionable points or inaccuracies of these descriptions too. The second part of this thesis is given to corpus research. The questionable points or inaccuracies of the descriptions defined in the first part of this thesis are examined on the material of Czech national corpus, concretely the corpus SYN2010....
Specific Features of Functional Sentence Perspective in Czech of 16th Century (from the Point of View of Contemporary Recipient)
Stránská, Kateřina ; Janovec, Ladislav (advisor) ; Palkosková, Olga (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with specific feature of functional sentence perspective in Czech language of 16th century from the point of view of a contemporary reader. It is divided into two parts, such as theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on terminological background, which is crucial to know when reading this thesis. There is also a brief history of functional sentence perspective studies in Czech Republic. Other chapter in the theoretical part is also description of Czech language development. It is important to know it because of understanding the tendencies influencing the language in times the translation was written. The practical part targets on finding the specific features in the text with help of manifold examples and suggestions of how it could look today. It focuses on looking up features that could cause understanding or reading trouble to a contemporary reader.
Quantified subjects and their agreement with the predicate
Jochová, Marie ; Giger, Markus (advisor) ; Stranz-Nikitina, Veronika (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the subject-predicate agreement in sentences with a quantified subject. The theoretical part informs the reader about the general issue of agreement, and shows its various forms in the Czech and Russian languages. It also summarizes the basic knowledge of the predicate agreement with a quantified subject in Russian, and maps the factors that influence this agreement. It focuses only on the predicate number, which is exactly in these cases variable. The practical part verifies findings from the theoretical part with the help of data from the Russian national corpus. Four factors have been verified, which should influence the predicate number. These were: word order, animacy, agentivity of the subject and quantifier itself. The corpus data have shown that the word order and quantifier have a fundamental influence on the predicate number. The animacy has a significantly lower impact and the agentivity of the subject is negligible.
Reflection of the Predicate Preconception in Studying Process in 6th Grade of Elementary School
Skřivánek, Vratislav ; Štěpáník, Stanislav (advisor) ; Hájková, Eva (referee)
The objective of the thesis Reflection of the Predicate Preconception in Studying Process in 6th Grade of Elementary School is to ascertain how the 6th year pupils (aged 12-13 years) think about the predicate. The thesis is grounded in constructivism which actively works with preconcepts, and is related to Czech language teaching. Predicate is described from the linguistic perspective as well as its didactical notion in the Framework Educational Program and in existing textbooks. 37 pupils from 4 schools in Prague completed a series of individual tasks specifically designed for the purpose of this study, and semi-structured interviews with these pupils were recorded, transcribed and analysed. The study shows that the pupils strongly prefer verbal predicate to its verb-noun variety, while they are still capable of suggesting a communication situation for either type of predicate. The study further investigates whether the pupils actively use nouns and adjectives as a non-verb part of a predicate. While adjectives were used frequently, using nouns proved to be challenging. The analysis proves that the pupils do not identify the predicate as a part of sentence important for the meaning of the sentence. The results of the study confirm that pupils consider the meaning of individual words rather than...

The complex predicate in Italian
Galli, Jitka ; Štichauer, Pavel (advisor) ; Obstová, Zora (referee)
The aim of the present thesis is to study the issue of complex predicates and their application in Italian language in order to help students of Italian language to understand the role and possible usage of these constructions. The paper is subdivided in a theoretical part and in applications. The theoretical part defines the basic concept of predication and the types of predicates (the verbal predicate, the verb- nominal and complex predicates). The second part is dedicated to possible applications of the presented phenomenon. The applications are structured in sample constructions drawn from language textbooks and in sample new constructions generated by the rules described in the theoretical part.
