Labour migration from Serbia to the Czech Republic.
Kovar, Leona ; Kocián, Jiří (advisor) ; Roginer Hofmeister, Karin (referee)
The thesis deals with the current labour migration from the Republic of Serbia to the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is to answer three basic questions: What are the push factors for labour migrants from Serbia to emigrate to the Czech Republic? What are the pull factors for labour migrants from Serbia to move to the Czech Republic? Do migration networks play a role in the moving of labour migrants from Serbia to the Czech Republic, and if so, what role is that? To achieve the answers, a qualitative analysis of 27 ethnographic interviews with labour migrants from Serbia, living in the Czech Republic, is used, along with an analysis of migration theories, concepts, and phenomena. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the methodological approach and analysis of available literature. The second part presents relevant migration theories (push-pull theory, migration network theory, neoclassical economic theory, new economic approaches, globalization theory, and transnationalization theory), concepts (gastarbeiter and diaspora), phenomena (brain drain), and terms used in the work. The third part of the thesis provides an analysis of certain aspects of immigration policy and immigration trends in the Czech Republic, as well as migration trends from Serbia to the Czech Republic. This section also...
Labour mobility: an emerging trend of intra-EU workforce migration to Central and Eastern European countries from the Western member states
Medal, Ondřej ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
1 Abstract Intra-EU labour mobility is perceived as one of the key advantages of the European common market. Most research thus far has focused on East-West flows of the workforce, whilst the reverse course remained almost unseen. Thus, this thesis aimed to evaluate the migrating workforce from EU-15 to CEE, which was demonstrated in the example of the Czech Republic. With the testing of Wallerstein's world-system theory and the push and pull migration factors, the thesis examined employment features of the EU-15 nationals, their labour mobility drivers, and the concept of Prague as a global city. The empirical data were gathered from EU databases of intra-EU mobility, Czech national statistics, and a structured survey of EU-15 nationals residing in the Czech Republic. The survey gathered 177 answers with results of a confidence level of 95% that the actual value is within 10% of the measured value. The research outcomes were then used for elaborating on the core-periphery dynamics and the West-East dichotomy. Overall, the findings suggest that this trend is emerging as the number of EU-15 nationals in the Czech Republic has risen by 212,13% since 1994. Moreover, it consists largely of knowledge workers, as almost three out of every four people have completed tertiary education. The most determining labour...
Vývoj migračního potenciálu příhraničního regionu Hrušovansko
Sečanská, Barbora
Aim of this thesis is to analyse the migration potential of inhabitants of the border region called Hrušovansko to work in Austria. Due to the proximity of the Czech-Austrian border crossing and benefits offered by work in Austria, the potential for labour migration of Czechs is quite significant. The thesis consists of two parts. The literature search is initially focused primarily on the very concept of migration, its types, and historical development, followed by listing responsibilities for migrants to work in Austria. Conditions and demands imposed on working people in both countries are also compared. In the empirical part there is an analysis of the local labour market, however, the crucial portion of the thesis is based on a qualitative research -- a survey of local residents. Results interpretation is also influenced by a secondary analysis of data, namely from a survey held in the territory of Hrušovansko in 2000 under the auspices of Charles University, the results of which are compared to some issues of the current survey.
Sociodemografická analýza Uzbekistánu
Abdukakhkhorova, Dilafruz
The diploma thesis deals with the socio-demographic analysis of Uzbekistan in the years 1991-2021. This work follows the development of indicators related to the number of inhabitants, mortality, birth rate and fertility, marriage, divorce rate and migration. The aim of the work is to identify problems associated with labor migration and propose possible solutions based on socio-demographic analysis. The development of individual indicators is evaluated with regard to the main causes and the overall development of Uzbekistan. A cluster analysis was used for a multi-criteria view of the selected indicators, which enabled a continuous view of the monitored country through the given indicators. The conclusion of the work consists of a summary of the most important findings and a proposal of recommendations that could improve the situation in the monitored country.
Attitudes Towards Free Movement of Workers from the Perspective of Welfare Regimes
Janáková, Šárka ; Young, Mitchell (advisor) ; Rovná, Lenka (referee)
This Master's Thesis studies the connection between welfare regime clusters, their institutions and public attitudes towards the free movement of workers in the European Union. It aims to analyse, whether welfare regime clusters can serve as a useful tool for understanding the cross- national differences in public opinion on intra-EU labour migrants. To do so the Thesis uses the institutional theory and looks at three dimensions of welfare state institutions - the universality of the welfare state, economic inequalities and job opportunities. The study is conducted on the case of eight (former and current) EU member states, which are divided into four pairs, each representing one of the welfare regimes - conservative, liberal, social democratic and Southern European. The Thesis concluded that neither clustering into welfare regimes, nor institutional dimensions represent a sufficient tool to explain the variations in attitudes between the chosen countries. Insufficiency of clustering was shown in the case of some countries, that are part of the same welfare clusters but show different levels of support for free movements of workers. Additionally, countries with the positions in the studied institutional dimensions which should lead to the most positive attitudes do not reach the predicted degree of...
Current labour migration to the Czech Republic: The synthetic study of integration models of the third country nationals
Střechová, Veronika ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
TITLE: CURRENT LABOUR MIGRATION TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC: THE SYNTHETIC STUDY OF INTEGRATION MODELS OF THE THIRD COUNTRY NATIONALS The aim of the thesis is to describe a process of an integration of eight groups of third country nationals in Czech society by using findings of several researches conducted in Czechia since the late nineties of the 20th century. The information about immigrants from Russia, Ukraine, China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Arabic countries and about immigrants from countries of Sub-Saharan Africa are structured in accordance with a concept of integration as a multidimensional process, suggested by Friedrich Heckmann and Wolfgang Bosswick. The work reveals a high internal diversity of researched groups in terms of a type of a residence permit which individuals possess, socioeconomic attributes, phase in a life cycle of individual, relationship of individual to the country of origin and his or her future plans about settlement in Czechia. These diversities are reflected in a number of different patterns and levels of integration of compatriots in a spatial, structural, cultural, interactive and identification dimension of integration. There is a research perspective change in the closing part of the thesis. This change is done in order to highlight those kinds of migrants'...
