Methods for Determination of Characteristic Parameters of Combustion Processes on the Basis of Experiments and Modeling

The present thesis is concerned with methods for determination and modeling of characteristic parameters of combustion of gaseous fuels. The focus is stressed on formation of nitrogen oxides and heat transfer from hot flue gases into combustion chamber’s walls. Experimental work, which is focused on testing of two burners with suppressed formation of nitrogen oxides, is an important part of the thesis. Its aim is to obtain data that is necessary for further processing and modeling. The work presents two methods that may be used in modeling of characteristic combustion parameters, namely the method based on statistical processing of data and the method based on computational fluid dynamics. The approaches are applied to two devices (burner with two-staged fuel supply, burner with two-staged air supply) with the objective to analyze their parameters. First approach covers detailed planning of burner test prior to its own carrying out (definition of the goal of experiment, choice of input factors and response, experimental plan) and subsequent statistical processing of experimental data. On the contrary, CFD approach offers simulations as an alternative option to traditional experimental methods. The simulation of combustion includes building of computational grid, setup of boundary conditions, turbulence model, heat transfer model and chemical kinetics. Results of simulations are compared with experimental measured data.
Experimental measurement in the area of industrial drying of textile

The main aim of this thesis is to provide and explore main factors that affect a drying process. The first part contains brief description of the drying process and focuses on a convectional industrial drying process. The following section discusses the theory of an experiment planning followed by an experiment design of the compact tumble industrial dryer. The thesis also includes an exact description of the executed experiment, then outputs of the measurements and model characterizing the drying process of the tested dryer. The last part deals with the methodology and recommendations for the measurements in operating conditions.
Effectiveness of DOE

Diplomová práce se zabývá plánováním a analýzou experimentu. Je zde zkoumán vliv počtu centrálních bodů v plánu experimentu na nalezení významných faktorů procesu. Pro určení tohoto vlivu je použita metoda Monte Carlo, pomocí které hledáme míru nalezení významných faktorů procesu. Simulace experimentu je vytvořena v programu MATLAB, kde se především využívá Statistics toolbox pro generování náhodných čísel. V závěru je zhodnoceno a graficky ukázáno, jak je určení významnosti faktoru procesu závislé na počtu uvažovaných faktorů experimentu a na počtu měření v centrálním bodě.
The influence of operating parameters and construction parameters of the low-NOx burner on characteristic parameters of combustion processes

The main aim of the work was the investigation of the effect of operational parameters of the combustion process (combustion air excess, primary fuel ratio) and burner constructional parameters (the pitch angle of secondary nozzles, tangential orientation of secondary nozzles towards the axis of the burner) on the formation of NOx and CO, flue gas temperature, the shape, dimensions and stability of the flame, in-flame temperatures in the horizontal symmetry plane of the combustion chamber and the amount of heat extracted from the hot combustion gases in the combustion chamber’s shell. Experimental activities were carried out in the laboratory of the Institute of Process and Environmental Engineering, which is focused on burners testing. The combustion tests were performed with the experimental low-NOx type burner, namely the two-gas-staged burner. Mathematical model developed based on the experimental data describes the dependency of NOx on the operating parameters of the combustion process and burner constructional parameters. The model shows that increasing air excess and increasing angle of tangential orientation of the secondary nozzles reduce the formation of NOx. The temperature peaks in the horizontal symmetry plane of the combustion chamber decreases with increasing combustion air excess. The thermal load to the combustion chamber’s wall along the length of the flame was evaluated for selected settings. It was validated that the thermal efficiency of is reduced when higher air excess is used.
Volumetric accuracy of machine tools

The diploma thesis deals with the influence of the volumetric accuracy of the machine tool on the size of the assessed work space. The impact assessment was carried out on the basis of tests of a three-axis vertical CNC machining center. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on geometric / volumetric accuracy of machine tools, measuring technique for measuring geometric errors and Design of Experiment. In the practical part, there is an analysis of the Design of Experiment according to Shainin, description of the work with the measuring instruments and the measurement of the geometric / volumetric accuracy of the machine including statistical evaluation. The output of the thesis is the description of the influence of volumetric deviation on the size of the measured work space by means of statistical methods.
Problems in Solder Paste Stencil Printing for Fine Pitch Components

Despote the indisputable advantages of fine-pitch components, is need to calculate with a few trouble during production, especially increased requirements for accuracy of mounting and solder printing. In this work I’m concerned with problems of solder printing for these components and evaluation using SPC. For the evaluation I used 3D paste inspection based on laser scanning of the surface. The output of this work is to describe the principles of solder printing and elaborating of GR&R, SPC analysis and histograms of solder printing for some outputs. I focused in my master thesis on motive design change of problematic components and economic evaluation of the adjustments.
Performance comparison of methods for design of experiments for analysis of tasks involving random variables

The thesis presents methods and criteria for creation and optimization of design of computer experiments. Using the core of a program Freet the optimized designs were created by combination of these methods and criteria. Then, the suitability of the designs for statistical analysis of the tasks vith input random variables was assessed by comparison of the obtained results of six selected functions and the exact (analytically obtained) solutions. Basic theory, definitions of the evaluated functions, description of the setting of optimization and the discussion of the obtained results, including recommendations related to identified weaknesses of certain designs, are presented. The thesis also contains a description of an application that was created to display the results.
Technology of a selected part of the vacuum pump

The content of study is related to reducing the production times of milling of aluminum component of vacuum pump. The primary aim of the thesis is to experimentally verify the proposed cutting conditions when milling the rotor blades and then evaluate them according to predetermined parameters. The output is reducing machining time with respect to cost, tools and machine.
Micronization of biopolymer material

This bachelor thesis focuses on the preparation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) microparticles for cosmetic products. The particles were prepared by emulsion technology, where a chloroform solution of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) was dispersed in an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol. The original poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) was also in powder form, but it was thought that its properties could be improved by this treatment. Evaporation of all the chloroform produced poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) particles. By changing the input concentrations of the two components, the particle size distribution was altered. All prepared powders were measured using a scanning electron microscope and measured by laser diffraction. Experiments and subsequent measurements showed that increasing the concentration of the emulsifier solution leads to an overall decrease in particle size, whereas a higher concentration of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) causes an increase in particle size. To evaluate the potential of the prepared particles in cosmetics, all powders were evaluated sensorially. The evaluators observed almost no differences between the powders, only the original poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) powder was rated slightly worse compared to our prepared powders. The powder that is currently used in cosmetic products was rated very similarly to the powders that were prepared by emulsion technology.
