Usage of personal protective equipment in nursing practice
KULAJEC, Lilija
Current situation: Nurses' health can be endangered by various influences. One of the possibilities of prevention is personal protective equipment (PPE) which provides effective protection against infectious agents and other risk factors, both for the nurse and the patient. The aim of the thesis was to find out the nurses' awareness of PPE and its use. Find out which PPE nurses use and evaluate whether they use it properly. Methods: The research was carried out using a qualitative method, a technique of non-standardized in-depth interviews and observation. 16 nurses attended the interviews and were observed during 112 nursing activities. Qualitative research was supplemented by an interview with the institutional epidemiologist and a nurse from the department of epidemiology. Results: Nurses use PPE to protect their health and are well-aware of the risks. They realize that it also protects the patient. Nurses commonly use gloves, face masks and protective aprons. When choosing proper PPE, they base their choice primarily on the standard of nursing care, legislation, the nature of the activity performed, the specifics of the department, the risks involved or the type and method of transmission of the respective disease. At workplaces there are a sufficient number of several types of PPE and nurses have the opportunity to educate themselves on the issue. However, there are some obstacles to the correct use of PPE. These obstacles include: lack of information, lack of staffing, pressure on performance and time stress. During the observation the most frequent errors were found in the use of gloves and taking off PPE. Recommendations for practice: The introduction of comprehensive training on individual PPE, increased checks by managers, regular updating of standard nursing procedures, sufficient staffing and sufficient spare protective equipment at the department may contribute to increasing the level of use of PPE.
Paramedic's readiness and knowledge during the transportation of a patient with high level infections illness
MUSILOVÁ, Markéta
The Bachelor thesis focuses on the readiness and knowledge of paramedics dealing with patients infected by a highly infectious disease. The aim is to analyze both processes of paramedics during transportation of these patients and find out the most frequent diseases paramedics encounter. There are two parts in the thesis, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part informs about infectious diseases, its originators, symptoms and the course in general. There are chapters dealing with highly infectious diseases and imported illnesses. Health and safety rules, description of personal protective equipment as well as proper sanitation and hand disinfection is included. The important part of the thesis is an introduction of Biohazard team, the role of paramedic, paramedic driver and the overall integrated system. There are ways to be pursued when taking care of a patient who is probably infected by infectious disease, how to complete the safety action and rules of decontamination. The research has two main aims. First, analyzing knowledge of paramedics during transportation of patient infected by highly infectious disease. Second to map the most frequent diseases paramedics encounter. Qualitative research methods are used. Data colletion is based on a loosely structured approach of interviewing seven paramedics working for "Zdravotnická záchranná služba Jihočeského kraje." Given the results of this bachelor thesis we can say that paramedics usually do not have many experience with a higly infected patient´s transportation. Even though they might have theoretical knowledge, it is often not correct. In reality it can endanger their lifes.

Maleček, Jan ; Vágner, Michal (advisor) ; Šťastný, Petr (referee)
Title: Relationship between hip muscles and dynamics front kick while using ballistic vest and backpack. Objective: Determine the rate of the relationship among isokinetic strength of hip muscles during flexion and extension movement, external and internal rotation and the dynamics of the front kick while using the military personal protective equipment. The method: The master thesis corresponds with an empirically based study of observational type. The measured research sample consisted of students (n = 15) of Military Department attending full-time and combined form of study at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of Charles University in Prague. Dynamics of front kick were measured by dynamometric Kistler plates and evaluated through computer software BioWare. Isokinetic strength of hip muscles during flexion and extension movement, external and internal rotation was tested and rated by isokinetic dynamometer Humac Norm. The flexibility of selected muscles group was measured by a specialist in physiotherapist area. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient of the order (rs) was chosen for the final evaluation of the rate of relationship. The results: The strongest correlation relationship was between the external hip rotation muscles (at speed 90 řs-1 ) and the impact force on the...

Stein, Radim ; Bruthans, Jan (advisor) ; Kordulová, Pavla (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the protection of personnel in cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, focusing on non-medical healthcare workers - anesthetist nurses. The aim of the work was to analyze the knowledge of anesthesia nurses in the use of personal protective equipment, the specifics of selection for the given performance, the use of an electrocautery with integrated suction, the availability of decontamination aids In case of an accident of cytotoxic substances and if the staff is afraid of their own health. The data was obtained through a questionnaire. For the research were selected anesthesia nurses working in operating theaters in selected health care facilities in the Czech Republic. The total number of respondents who participated in the research was 35. The results of the survey revealed that the staff did not find out what PPEs are recommended for this type of operation. It's either because the staff is less linguistically equipped or does not know EBN / EBP or EBM. The staff only uses those PPEs that are available to them. As a good result, 49% of respondents use an integrated electric exhaust system. With regard to the availability of decontamination aids, I have found that most of the staff does not know whether these utilities are available at...

Preparedness of the Plzen Regional Emergency Rescue Service to a Highly Infectious Disease Incident.
BREJCHA, Martin
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate the current preparedness of the Plzen Regional Emergency Rescue Service to a highly infectious disease incident. The topic of the thesis was chosen with regard to an increasing probability of occurrence and spreading of a highly infectious disease in Czech Republic. I decided to evaluate the situation of the Plzen Regional Emergency Rescue Service, because I am an employee of this organization and I live in the Plzen region. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis focuses on the literature search and exploration of facts from legal rules and documents regulating the matter of highly infectious disease incidents and the characteristics of highly infectious diseases spreading through person-to-person contact. The practical part of the thesis assesses the availability of personal protective equipment for the emergency exit groups and for the specialized bio-hazard team dedicated to dealing with emergency situations in relation to highly infectious disease incidents. This part of thesis also evaluates the material resources and equipment, trainings of the specialized team, cooperation with the components of the Integrated Rescue System and with selected health care institutions. The practical part of the thesis also includes description of the Plzen Regional Emergency Rescue Service's internal documentation. The bachelor thesis contains in particular two improvement suggestions for two aspects related to the preparedness of the Plzen Regional Emergency Rescue Service to a highly infectious disease incident. Regarding the technical equipment, we suggest setting up a working team that should deal with specifying requirements for a call for tenders for a new ambulance car and a special transporting and isolating equipment for people. Regarding documentation, we suggest re-working of existing Bio-hazard team checklists. The director of the Plzen Regional Emergency Rescue Service supports the practical implementation of the bachelor thesis outputs in the organization. In this respect, the bachelor thesis has a practical impact on the employer of the author.
