The Importance and the Status of Crown Dependencies in the United Kingdom
Čadil, David ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The bachelor's thesis "The Importance and the Status of Crown Dependencies in the United Kingdom" focuses on the status and importance of the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. These islands are not sovereign states, they are under the British administration. The United Kingdom handles their defense and international representation. The Crown Dependencies however possess a great amount of independence. They have their own legislative bodies, governments and tax and judicial systems. The head of each island is the British monarch. Each island also has its own currency, which, however, is tied to the British Pound at a ratio of one to one. The islands are regarded as important off-shore financial centers. The goals of this thesis are to find out the islands' current status and significance, and to debate their further development. Comparative analysis of island regions of north European monarchies
Paznocht, David ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with island territories of the Danish Kingdom and the United Kingdom, specifically Faroe Islands, Isle of Man and marginally Shetland, Orkney and Outer Hebrides. Faroe Islands and Isle of Man share special relations with their mainland countries, which guarantee them high level of autonomy and their own political institutions, parliaments originating in the age of Vikings. These territories also differ from their mainland countries in other aspects, for example history, culture, language, etc. Even though these territories have their own functioning political systems and gradually rising autonomy, they are neglected by the academia, especially in the Czech Republic. Main purpose of this thesis is to explore these systems, their relations between them and their mainland countries and to outline their possible future. Thesis itself is divided into several parts. The first part is the introduction, which familiarizes reader with the topic. The second part is a chapter about the Faroe Islands and their political system. Next part is a chapter about the Isle of Man. After Isle of Man, there is a short chapter dedicated to the Shetland, Orkney and Outer Hebrides. The last part is a conclusion, which summarizes specific aspects of these territories and suggests their future development. Powered by...
Analysis of Effects of Autonomy an the Isle of Man
Čimera, Jan ; Kokaisl, Petr (advisor) ; Fajfrlíková, Pavla (referee)
The work deals with contemporary issues of the autonomous status of the Isle of Man with the UK and the European Union, furthermore, with the rest of the world. The basis for the work is the historical development of the Island simultaneously with present changes on the Island. Here we can mention the revival of the Manx language, which has its origins in Gaelic and ranks among one of the Celtic languages. The next important point in terms of autonomy is the distribution of tax revenues between Great Britain and the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man has historically been a very active place that has experienced a variety of different rulers and powers. This fact is today commemorated by the ubiquitous Triskelion, the Manx language revival and the collective feeling that the residents do not belong to anyone foreign domination. The aim of the work is to bring the closer look at historical evolution, current political and economic situation and finally a field research among locals and examining their attitudes, opinions and relations with the Island.
