Selected materials for teaching chemistry in lower grades at the eight-year grammar school
Wilhelm, Lukáš ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
The incoherence of the Czech school system, which is based on the existence of three different types of grammar schools, results in a time inconsistency in the teaching of some subjects. Today, pupils at eight-year grammar schools encounter the subject of chemistry for the first time one to two years earlier than pupils at primary schools. However, the same textbook may be presented to both groups, but it may be inappropriate for younger pupils as it would not reflect the fact that they are not cognitively advanced enough. How do eight-year grammar schools themselves approach this disparity? Does the approach to teaching chemistry to younger pupils differ in foreign countries in any way? These are the questions this thesis seeks to answer. To find the answers, an analysis of Czech and selected foreign curriculum documents was used. The most important results of this thesis include the fact that eight-year grammar schools in the Czech Republic most often include a total of seven teaching units during the first year of chemistry teaching, of which the most abstract concepts are included in the teaching unit Particle composition of substances. In foreign countries, the teaching of chemistry to younger pupils does not go as in-depth as in our eight-year grammar schools, but comparable topics are...
Volleyball as a part of P.E. lesson at grammar schools
Urbančík, Michal ; Pokorný, Ladislav (advisor) ; Jahodová, Gabriela (referee)
Volleyball as a part of P.E. lesson at grammar schools Summary The aim of this thesis is to summarize issues about teaching volleyball during P.E. lessons at grammar schools. The core of this work lies in the empirical part, whose goal is to answer research questions about the form and the extent of teaching volleyball, students' preferences concerning this sport, and determining a methodical model of teaching volleyball. In the theoritical part you can find basic rules, six basic skills, information about formations and combinations, which are used in the game. The research part deals with determining of various hypothesis and they are either confirmed or disproven. The research methods used in this section are a questionnaire and an experiment itself. The last methodical part analyses training units of the experiment. As a result, voleyball lessons for boys at grammar schools are covered. The main contribution in this part is the elaboration of a model program consisting of 12 training units, which can be used by teachers in P.E. lessons. Key words: Grammar school, team sport, volleyball, physical education, basic skills
Chemistry education in lower secondary schools in the Czech Republic
Wilhelm, Lukáš ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Stratilová Urválková, Eva (referee)
The Czech school system allows studying on three different types of grammar schools, differing in the length of study. Teaching at eight-year and six-year grammar schools partly runs in parallel with teaching at primary schools, which can result in large differences in time allocations, caused by the use of available hours devoted to individual subjects at these grammar schools and corresponding primary school years. Chemistry is included in teaching at some grammar schools since the third year, at the same age as at primary schools, but other eight- year grammar schools have included it since the beginning, which creates a significant discrepancy between the length of teaching. How many eight-year grammar schools are affected by this situation? And is there a big difference in the scope of teaching chemistry at eight-year and four-year grammar schools? This work focuses on these questions regarding the teaching of chemistry at eight-year grammar schools. The work aims primarily to determine the scope of teaching and compare its content with the defined curriculum in the framework educational program. One of the most important results of this work is finding that chemistry is taught earlier than in primary schools at a total of 68% of eight-year grammar schools. Furthermore, it was found that a...
