Ethnoscapes and socioscapes: Prague in the Experience of Vietnamese Immigrants

The Bachelor Thesis "Ethnoscapes and socioscapes: Prague in the experience of Vietnamese immigrants" is primarily focused on the Vietnamese community and its movement in Prague. It is inspired by a similar project connected to Walter Benjamin, who took notes on places where he lived during his stay in Paris. Even though the Vietnamese are very often repeated topic in the mass media I assume that the public is not adequately informed about this community. The work is based on qualitative research, which took place within five semi-structured narrative interviews in one Vietnamese family permanently living in Prague. The first part is concentrated on the history of Vietnamese immigration in Czech Republic and their current situation. It also discusses the theoretical basis and brings a brief definition of used terms. The second part examines more closely methodology and the progress of individual interviews. It also refers to the literature on this topic and the researches that has been already made. The last part describes more closely individual respondents and their movement in Prague, while also compares respondents with each other and tries to find some similarities, trends and characteristics. Cultural Aspects of Cartographic Creation: Use of Mental Maps in Cross-cultural Research Abstract: Diploma thesis deals with study of interdisciplinary issue of cultural aspects of cartographic creation. The first part of the work consists of theoretical introduction dealing with the map con- tent, map stylistics and map language, in which maps show the greatest cultural differences. The map figures here in a role of the image of reality and visual manifestation of culture. The analogy between a map and a classical language (linguistic anthropology) and the analogy between early maps and primitive cultures' maps are described. Beside the language, as determinants of the human spatial perception and other categories related to the map creation could be mentioned the environment, the experiences and the society, in which man lives. Several examples of so- called cultural map styles, especially from Australia and Oceania, are introduced as well. In the methodical part of the work in connection with cultural-anthropological research a method of cognitive maps, respectively mental maps of map users and map makers is discussed in detail. Assessment of mental maps in GIS

This work deals with the possibilities of assessments of mental maps using GIS tools. The main goal is to create a collection of methods to evaluate positioning and relative accuracy of mental maps. The method principles are based on methods of GIS. The emphasis is on maximum versatility and automation the assessment procedure. For all proposed methods there are further discussed the advantages and disadvantages. First part of this work deals with the theme of mental maps, followed by a brief introduction to GIS and their use in the field mental maps. The main part is devoted to the description and practical examples of evaluation methods. At the conclusion there is a discussion of the proposed methods and the appropriateness of use GIS at this issue in general. This work was created under the project No. 26609 called "Mental Maps: Object and Device for Assessment" supported by the Grant Agency of Charles University.
Creative Thinking and Behaviour Support - Mental Map Analysis

This master’s thesis is focused on qualitative creative method of mental mapping. The theoretical part deals with creativity and qualitative research too, these terms are linking with mental maps. In practical part is implemented analysis of specific research and on the basic of attained results are suggested possibilities solutions and applications of this method.
The mental maps and thein utilization in the tourism

This diploma work takes and describes for the main objective the evolution and the formation of mental maps. These mental maps join with the idea of a travelling and with a travel tourism. The partial objective is the project for an exploitation of these knowledges for the travel tourism. This research is specialized in the basic school students where is the evolution the most descriptive. The evolution of the mental maps is assumed by students of secondary schools and by older informants. The evolution of these mental maps confirms the anylysis of questionnaires.
Brno Inhabitants and their picture(s) of Brno - mental maps in ethnological research

The article focuses on the analysis of mental maps collected during field work that was carried out among one group of respondents, secondary school students in Brno. The analysis deals with 47 mental maps. The mental maps can be divided into two parts - one part represents the centre of Brno, another part the whole city. The article discusses not only the segments drawn on the mental maps, but also the possible use mental maps for research dealing with memory and identity.
