Its impact is assessed as more stressful in comparison with lower job titles, particularly from the perspective of a wider range of active forms of mental load. The research has shown that the predominant types of coping with mental load are mainly active methods of coping with stress, such as control and management of the situation itself, control of your responses in the given...

Svitáková, Jana ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Mrákava, Vlastimil (referee)
General nurses in their proffesion provide nursing care to patients of different age groups. Quite frequently represented group are seniors. This fact is due to the increase in life expectancy, medical advances and polymorbidity of seniors, which is often the cause of their hospitalization. Nursing care for seniors is particularly challenging due to the occurence of many geriatric symptoms, restriction of cognitive functions and inabillity to self care. Much more difficult situation occurs, if the state of geriatric patient requires care in ARO (Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation) or ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Identification of problem areas in intensive nursing care for seniors leads to infer the possible measures for practice. In terms of this thesis quantitative research was carried out using a questionnaire survey. Research group consisted of general nurses from departments of intensive care, thus professional intesive care units (ICU) and department of anesthesiology and resuscitation. Out of the total number of 120 distributed questionnaires (100 %) returned 94 usable questionnaires (78,33 %). Realization of research survey was conducted in February 2012. The thesis consists of two parts, the practical and theoretical. The main objective was to map the problem of providing nursing...

Mental and physical stress of anaesthetic nurse
VARMUŽOVÁ, Klára
Work in the given field is very varied. The nurse is responsible for sufficient material resources, readiness of the working area and correct function of the anesthesiological instruments. After the patient is brought to the theatre the nurse needs to ensure several tasks, assist the surgeon, check physiological functions of the patient during surgery, keep nurse documentation and after the operation she is responsible for the clean-up of the operating room and final check of the anesthesiological instruments. The responsibilities of the nurse as well as the working environment are described in detail, particularly regarding the psychological pressure the work requires. The work is further aimed at the physical load this job involves.Single aim was chosen for the research part of this work: to find what mental and physical load the nurses experience. Results for the research part of this work were obtained based on qualitative research in the form of in-depth interviews completed by two standardised questionnaires. The research was conducted for ten randomly chosen anesthesiological nurses working at operation theatres at the hospital in České Budějovice after approval from the head nurse of the hospital.Six categories emerged through the conducted analysis comprising the meaning of employment for the anaesthesiology nurses, mental load of the occupation, handling that load, relationship among the staff and working condition of the nurses.
Coping with nurses´stress
PAPEŽOVÁ, Marta
The present bachalor{\crq}s thesis focuses on mental stress management among nurses working in departments of surgery and internal medicine. Today, when the health care has become more and more demanding in terms of professional expertise and social skills, this issue cannot be omitted. The thesis tries to observe the methods used by nurses in order to cope with mental stress while performing their job, it analyzes how such stress may influence the health care given, and lastly it tries to find out what the nurses are missing so that they can manage the mental stress. The survey was carried out by way of quantitative method. The data were collected from questionnaires. The survey focused on the target groups of nurses in the surgery departments in hospitals in Havlíčkův Brod, Jihlava, and Pelhřimov, and in the department of internal medicine in the same hospitals. First, there were defined three hypotheses. The survey outcome showed that the nurses in question give preference to using effective strategies in order to manage stressful situations than using inefficient and ineffective ones. They often make an effort to analyze the situation rationally and if needed, they ask for help, which proves correct the first hypothesis: Nurses try to analyze the situation objectively and solve the problem effectively. Most nurses are sure that the mental stress often influences the quality of the health care provided, that it has a negative impact on the relations with patients and communication between them and health care staff. The survey also found out that nurses who are mentally stressed out make mistakes. This proves the second hypothesis: Mental stress has a negative impact on the health care provided by nurses. The third hypothesis presumed that a lack of health care staff is the main cause for mental stress among nurses. This hypothesis has not been confirmed. The conclusion found out that all nurses lack auxiliary staff, qualified nurses, and quality personal background; some nurses also lack technical equipment, interest shown by management in their mental health, and enough relaxation because of time stress. Alarming number of nurses stated they increasingly do not find their work meaningful which leads to long-term feelings of exhaustion. A few nurses added that such situation makes them feel negative towards co-workers and clients which might be related to burnout syndrome. The outcome of the survey shall be handed to nurses in the departments of surgery and internal medicine in all hospitals to provoke more thoughts and also to the managements for further feedback and possible improvements in working conditions so that the nurses are healthier and the quality of health care better.
