Streptophytic Algae with a Focus on the Class Zygnematophyceae
Špička, Jan ; Soldán, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Ráček, Jan (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with streptophyte algae, with special attention given to the class Zygnematophyceae. The thesis is written as a literature review, aiming to summarize existing knowledge about streptophyte algae, particularly focusing on the class Zygnematophyceae. Additionally, the thesis elucidates the phylogenetic relationships within this group, which historically have been challenging. The thesis primarily focuses on the description, ecology, and taxonomy of streptophyte lineages, emphasizing their significance in the study of terrestrialization, or the colonization of land. A significant part of this thesis is therefore to highlight the ecological and evolutionary role of streptophyte algae, especially in the context of their adaptation to terrestrial environments. An additional aim of the thesis is to address the issues associated with the group of algae, given their inconsistent definition. The thesis points out that algae do not form a monophyletic group, as they encompass various taxonomic lineages. This thesis can serve as a foundation for further research in the field of algology, thereby contributing to a better understanding and orientation in the process of terrestrialization. It also indicates the need for more phylogenetic studies to enhance understanding of the...

Sladovníková, Eliška ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Malý, Radek (referee)
The popularity of bookstagram accounts is gaining momentum and reach. For this reason, the thesis focuses on the format of book reviews both on Instagram and in literary and online magazines. The aim of the thesis is to define the structure of book reviews on Instagram and in literary magazines, the nature of bookstagram, and, above all, to assess whether bookstagram influences literary reviews. The theoretical part mainly deals with the definition of book reviews and literary criticism, methods of text interpretation, and also defines new media and social networks, with a specific focus on bookstagram. In the analytical part, book reviews of Šikmý kostel are first described through direct description in both types of media. Subsequently, they are compared in several key categories such as the presence of the book's context, language form, or topics. Semi-structured interviews with literary reviewers and bookstagrammers follow, including two informants who engage with both media. The research section thoroughly analyzes the structure of book reviews and the opinions of their authors, providing insights into the characteristics of high-quality reviews, texts on bookstagram, and...
Functions of secondary metabolites of lichens
Zvěřinová, Gabriela ; Svoboda, David (advisor) ; Bouda, František (referee)
This bachelor thesis is a review of available literature about lichen secondary metabolites and their functions. Lichens produce a great variety of these compounds; most of them are unique to the lichen symbiosis and are not found in higher plants. Besides the role of these compounds in chemotaxonomy and systematics, lichen secondary metabolites exhibit various biological functions and can affect biotic and abiotic interactions of lichens with their environment. Well-known and often described functions of lichen substances include especially antimicrobial, antiherbivory and antioxidant activity, allelopathy, metal homeostasis and photoprotection. This thesis is focused on these functions and summarizes current knowledge in this area. Key words: lichen, secondary metabolites, allelopathy, antimicrobial activity, herbivory, antioxidant activity, photoprotection, metal homeostasis, pollution tolerance, literary review
