Forest School Education

This bachelor thesis deals with education in forest preschools. This is a relatively new trend in preschool education in the Czech Republic and the aim of the thesis is to create a realistic and complete picture of this alternative. The thesis has two parts. The first part puts this pedagogical concept into the context of the current social situation, introduces its pedagogical bases and historical moments of its formation and spreading in the world. Further the theoretical part introduces the possible concepts and definitions of forest preschools, presents the basic principles, criteria, specifics and other related issues. At the end of the theoretical part the thesis deals with the Czech context of forest preschools. The practical part gives an insight into a possible case of the practice of forest preschool and presents research results in this area. The research focuses on the specific way of organizing of particular forest preschool, its pedagogical concept and also introduces the views of people involved.
Bullying Prevention in Forest Kindergarten: A Case Study of Jasmínka

This bachelor thesis aims to introduce the ways of bullying prevention in forest kindergarten. This goal was achieved by qualitative research, specifically a case study of DLK Jasmínka. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with bullying, its prevention and the specifics of bullying and prevention in kindergartens. The concept of forest pedagogy is also briefly introduced, but the empirical part provides key information on this topic. Based on the results of observations and interviews, the philosophy, educational approach, and daily program of DLK Jasmínka are presented. Then the main topic is presented. It turned out that the ways of preventing bullying in DLK Jasmínka do not rely on any comprehensive methodology but result from the educational plan and general principles of the pedagogical approach. Of the established concepts of prevention, they are closest to non-specific prevention, as the primary purpose of these principles is to support the harmonious development of children. Most important are respectful approach to children and open communication, to which other elements are attached. The work brings relatively unique insight into the elements of forest pedagogy, their mutual interaction and impact on the prevention of bullying.

Developing scientific literacy in pre-primary education through environmental themes

1 Abstract Thesis Woods as an educational space? examines using quantitative methods the differences between children in ordinary kindergartens and forest kindergartens, and it does so according to formation of individual components of scientific literacy or knowledge of selected terms (concepts) in its empirical part. For this purpose it creates evaluation model of scientific literacy of preschool children (didactic test) based on the example of processing a particular topic - Forest. The topic is set into the concept of pedagogy, developmental psychology, and social ecology. The theoretical part discusses the issue of scientific literacy, especially in the context of preprimary age. From the perspective of developmental psychology are furthemore described cognitive developmental characteristics of preschool age in their basic level. This part also focuses on strategic documents of (permanent) sustainable development. The thesis gives a first interesting insight into the problem and reveals a serious facts such as that children from ordinary kindergartens confuse natural objects under artificial objects also are less oriented in inanimate components, than the children of the forest kindergartens. Nature as an Educational Environment for Pre-school Children

This bachelor thesis deals with nature as a potential educational environment for pre-school children. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on curricular documents related to the legislation governing preschool education in the Czech Republic; it describes the development of a pre-school child, how he/she forms his/her relationship to nature and it also deals with forest school education and forest kindergartens. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the kinds of parents who enroll their children in forest kindergartens, their motives to use this form of alternative preschool education and on their level of satisfaction with having their children educated in a natural environment. At the same time, this part offers assistance to other parents in deciding where they should enroll their preschool child.
