The Situation of Literature Teaching in English Language Classes in Czech Secondary Schools

Although literature can be seen as a means of improving students' English proficiency, its role in secondary education in the Czech Republic is often insignificant. Literature should be an important and integral part of the comprehensive development of English as a second language for students. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to investigate the role of literature in secondary teaching of English as a second language in the Czech Republic. This thesis includes a theoretical introduction to the topic of the importance of literature in language teaching and learning and research based on questionnaires completed by both secondary school English language teachers and students, which provides an insight into the perspectives of participants from both sides of the educational process on the examined topic.
Languages and Compilers in Computer Games

This project deals with usage of programming languages and compilers in computer games. Purpose of this project is to give young people motivation for programming, which isn't always done by usual work in Pascal at high school. This idea was applied on a developed computer game with has a few integrated languages which can be used for creation of the game's content (adventures, campaigns and objects in them). This computer game was based on a RPG desk game Dragon's Lair (a Czech equivalent of D&D) from ALTAR(TM) publishing company.
Regional and linguistic identities : the North of France

This qualitative research aims to find out whether a regional identity in Northern France is possible without identifying with and/or practising its regional language or dialect. A literature review was conducted on the history of the region, the history of the Ch'ti language, its regional language, and the definition of the terms "identity" and "regional identity". Four semi-structured interviews were conducted with people of different generations in order to collect qualitative data on the research topic. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. The results are described after the methodology section, which is describing the process of constructing the research question and the way the interviews were conducted. These results are then questioned in a dedicated section. This is followed by the conclusion, a summary in English, the bibliography of the literature section and illustrations, allowing a better representation of the region. The appendices conclude this research and illustrate the whole research process.
Algorithms and Programming Education with a focus on the programming language Python

The thesis researches the ability of use of Python programming language in the field of high school education and uses qualitative and quantitative methods of research and finds Python suitable. The thesis also brings theoretical analysis of the Python language, including practical exams in the form of sample programs. It researchs even other programming languages used in education and their suitability for this purpose and compares them with Python programming language. It also finds two most common used programming languages at high schools, which are Pascal / Object Pascal and Java.
Evaluation of languages for creating intelligent virtual agent behaviors

There are dozens of formalisms specialized programming intelligent virtual agents (IVA). However, there is lack of an evaluation, which would provide the designer of a new agent with an overview of their usability in real-world applications. The goal of this study was evaluation of selected formalisms in order to identify their shortcomings and suggesting improvements. These improvements would allow the designer more accurate control of the IVA's behavior. Evaluation of formalisms was designed based on real-world scenarios and their implementation in different formalisms using the platform Pogamut 3. One of the formalisms is Jason (AgentSpeak language interpreter) and it was connected to that platform as a part of this thesis. During the implementation of the scenarios were identified some problems which make creating the behavior of intelligent virtual agents harder. For these problems was proposed solution in the form of action selection mechanism (ASM) prototype and the basic methodology for designing agents with this ASM. The results of this study could be a starting point for more advanced action selection mechanism, which would allows more precise control of the behavior of intelligent virtual agents. Education in Austrian aristocratic families from the beginning of 19th century to the 1st half of 20th century

The thesis deals with the education in austrian aristocratic families in the 19th century and in the 1st half of 20th century. The education and upbringing of children had been influented by plenty of factors. The most important factors, which influenced education, were the environment (home or boarding school), specialization of education, the selection of schools and universities and the language of education, too. Parents, nannys and private teachers also had some influence on the upbringing of the children. In the 19th century we can find some common characteristic in some of the noble families (The Schwarzenbergs, the Sternbergs, the Mensdorffs and some others). The 1st half of the 20th century is an essential period for the history of aristocracy. Political changes reflected in its lifestyle and partially in the upbringing and education of the children of the aristocrats. These changes are illustrated on the education of children in the family of prince Johann Schönburg-Hartenstein.
