Mild Cognitive Impairment in Patients after Ischemic Stroke: Profile and Rehabilitation
Jaremová, Vladěna ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (referee)
The goal of this thesis was to describe cognitive profile and rehabilitation of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in patients with ischemic stroke (IST). The theoretical introduction focuses on IST, the concept of MCI, neuropsychological test of cognitive deficits related to IST, and cognitive rehabilitation. The empirical part of the thesis comprises of two studies. The first study includes 64 patients with various types of brain lesions after first-ever stroke were examined within 3-6 months after hospital admission. All cognitive domains were impaired to the similar extend; the impairment quite severe, and ranged from 1.5 to 2.0 SD below the mean of the control group. The results showed that right hemisphere lesions were associated with visuospatial impairment whereas left hemisphere lesions were associated with language impairment. Also, it was examined which combination of tests differentiates best between patients from the experimental groups and the control group, and among individual experimental groups. In the second study, 68 patients were assessed in order to explore the effect of cognitive rehabilitation. The experimental group did not show significant increase in cognitive performance in comparison with the control group. It is necessary to develop and use sensitive and valid tests that...

The theoretical part of this thesis includes the theoretical concepts of cognitive functions and attention. The following section deals with traumatic brain injuries, their division and measurement of their severity. Another chapter includes characteristics and aspects of attention disorders that can set in as a result of traumatic brain injury, and the problems that can be caused by the attention impairment in the activities of daily living. The main point of this work is the neuropsychological assessment of attention and the following rehabilitation, especially the cognitive rehabilitation of attention and compensatory strategies of attention disorders. The practical part consists in the research proposal of efficacy of physical activity as the supportive supplement to the cognitive rehabilitation of attention via cognitive-rehabilitation program Neurop-2. A design of software applicable in occupational therapy A design, realization and evaluation of a PC program for shopping practice for people with cognitive deficits
Rohlenová, Eva ; Rodová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Svobodová, Tereza (referee)
The main goal of this thesis was to design a computer program applicable in occupational therapy in cognitive rehabilitation. I designed a PC program focused on shopping practice. Its main advantages are: the absence of any charges, the possibility of using it on an ordinary PC and the accessibility via the Internet. The designed program, named Trénink nakupování (~Shopping training), had been implemented in a beta version. Afterwards, it was tested and evaluated with a questionnaire by five stroke patients. The results show that all patients evaluated the program very positively and they believe in its benefits for the rehabilitation. The theoretical part describes cognitive training and shopping from the perspective of an occupational therapist. Four PC training programs focused on shopping training are described. Other sections provide detailed information about the designed program. The practical part consists of testing, the evaluation of questionnaires and suggesting ways to improve the program in the future. Key words: cognitive rehabilitation, cognitive training, iADL, shopping, program design, computer-assisted training, PC program, brain injury Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Zajícová, Markéta ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Uhlář, Pavel (referee)
The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the temporal aspect of memory allocation, memory allocation according to the type of information and also in terms of processes. Another chapter is on memory impairment, retrograde and anterograde amnesia. The following section includes traumatic brain injuries, their division, mechanism of development and comatose condition measurement, which results in the pivotal division of brain injuries - mild, moderate and severe. The main point of this work is the cognitive rehabilitation, which should precede a neuropsychological examination. In case of memory, there are some specific tests (AVLT, ROCFT, BVMT-R). The thesis presents researches on the cognitive rehabilitation, information about the computer-assisted rehabilitation and books that deal with the topic. The thesis then briefly apprises of the possibilities of the pharmacotherapy, in the form of cognitives, psychostimulants and nootropics. The conclusion summarizes the psychological impact on the family and patient. The practical part is based on the research proposal of cognitive rehabilitation of memory, it is based on the latest research published in impacted journals and covers several approaches that are linked to the neuroplasticity or the cognitive training. STRATEGY OF CARE WITH DEMENTIAL PROBLEMS AT A SPECIALIZED DEPARTMENT OF CARE UNIT AT KOBYLISY SENIOR HOME
LELÁKOVÁ, Dagmar
In my bachelor´s thesis I focus on the efficiency of the working methods of the personnel in the integration of activization programs and in the development of predispositions and abilities of individual clients with dementia at the Department of Specialized Care for People with Dementia, hic his a part of the Home for the Elderly, Prague-Kobylisy. In the theoretical part I explain the notion of dementia, describing the types of dementia, its manifestations, stadia and therapeutical methods. Furthermore, I describe the principles of communication with persons stricken by this disease, the evaluation of cognitive and functional abilities of afflicted people, needs of the personnel, activities and therapeutical methods used in the institutional care. The practical part relied on the qualitative research. Techniques applied for data gathering included concerned and unconcerned observation, interview and case studies. The secondary data analysis served as an auxiliary method. The central criteria applied in the selection of CASE was dementia and the terminated adaptation period. For the present research there were selected altogether 20 respondents aged 63 - 97 years afflicted by dementia of various types and in different stages of development. Out of the selected group of 20 respondents 6 persons were chosen for detailed case studies. The central objective of the work was to find out whether this group of clients with dementia can really benefit from the working methods applied at this particular specialized department. The target no. 2 was to find out whether the applied methods contribute to the longest possible preservation of self-sufficiency of clients with dementia. The target no. 3 was to convince family members to maximally collaborate with the personnel. In my view, the targets no. 1 and 3 were fully accomplished. The accomplishment of target no. 2 is relative and differs in individual CASE since the self-sufficiency of respondents gradually diminishes depending on their aging and disease advancement. Persons stricken by dementia are unable to take care of themselves, they have problems in expressing themselves, as if living in their own world, however, they do have their own needs, experiences and joys. These needs can be met by a caring family. However, the strength of the family is limited and very often it happens that the family is totally exhausted and unable to take care of the client. At that point it is necessary to provide institutional care by trained personnel that would ensure clients with dementia a kind and secure atmosphere.
